Melodius chanting. I like to listen one chapter everyday.
For those trying to understand the English translations, a few clarification on the words / phrases:
1. mode of passion means egotistical (rajasikam)
2. mode of darkness means ignorant (tamasikam)
3. mode of goodness means pure (Sattvikam)
4. Gunas: attributes in anyone's character - Sattvikam, rajasikam and tamasikam
5. religion here means dharma. Dharma means doing the right thing, without any prejudice, without wanting to enjoy the fruits of one's actions
6. irreligion here means adharma, meaning not doing what is right
The whole chapter is about what type of actions (karma) can help one attain Moksha. Moksha is the ultimate knowledge (gained through divine experience) that we (jeevatman) are all part of the Brahman and therefore, we are one. The bodies (jeevas) may be separate, but the all pervading consciousness (Brahman / Paramatma) flows through all jeevas.
The actions (karma) done with the right intentions (dharma) without any desires to enjoy the fruits of the labour through earthly possessions and worldly enjoyments, without feeling happy or sad, without being lazy or morose help towards the attainment of Moksha.
This can only happen when the mind is calm (devoid of fear, anger, anxiety, sorrow and vanity) and intentions are pure in the jeevatman (us). The mind can reach this stage through meditation and following the 4 different yogas.
Striving to attain Moksha through perseverent dharmic karma is called karma yoga.
While karma yoga maybe difficult and may feel like poison in the beginning, the feeling of pure bliss (placidity of the mind) on attaining Moksha is like nectar.
