Thanks so much for this. I have started sending letters again so I just wrote the entire thing on the inside of the envelope paper and sent it that way. I even used some of the folds as area dividers per say and put different things in different sections (letter, recipe, Easter wishes, etc) and sealed it all up with some washi tape and plopped it in the mail. My recipient LOVED it! Thanks for the post!
I greatly appreciate the explaining of how to make an envelope of a desired size. Most origami envelope tutorials simply tell you how to fold and the result is just whatever size your paper folds up to be. Thank you for the added information!
Oh my god, thanks so much happypuppytruffles! You have a new subscriber; I got a polaroid instant camera for christmas and my friend only gave me four frames so I needed an album but the shops don't have any. And other videos don't make sense to me. So thanks so much! I was able to make an envelope to keep my photos safe.
Thank you I just made one for our local Chinese resturant, it's their New Year and I wrote Happy New Year in gold on the red envelope and put the tip money in it. That worked out great so again thank you for sharing that neet idea.
The closest I ever came to doing origami was making my own envelopes. I made them as a cure for my own boredom as a High School kid. I used ordinary 8x11 printing paper along with scissors, and scotch tape. If I did it your way, I would need to convert centimeters to inches. 🙂
Thank you so much for this video! Every video I saw used A4 paper and my card doesn't fit that size so this really helped. I'm sure my mom will be happy with the card and envelope :)
I was looking to buy envelopes without the sticker seal (because I use a wax seal), but this is so much more perfect because now I can select the paper I want and make the envelopes myself.
Hi Heather I have made several envelopes of various sizes from you, but not this one yet. They sell colored gift papers here. It's a roll - 60 cm to 2 meters, so I'd try it. Have a nice day.
I've have been looking for a good directional flow fold for my rosin press this helps so much especially the math at the end custom made envelopes for life thanks!
Years ago I made a homemade Dickensian Christmas card. However, without forethought I neglected to consider the envelope size, which was difficult to find. However, with the dimension ratio here, I think my assistant will be able to fold me a custom-made envelope to send to Ireland this month. These videos are excellent instruction, and you have a very pleasant speaking voice.
WOW cool it really works! YAY!!! (I said it really works because sometimes other people's origami does not always work, or look funny, but yours looks like mine so I think I made it right.)
Thank you for this tutorial, it worked well for me the only thing that is slightly different is that I don't have a point at the end but that doens't really bother me. Maybe it is because I used a A4 format from Europe because I live there ;)
Kayleigh Mcjannet You are not the only one Kayleigh, you are not weird. Common Core may make you think so, but you're not. Math is actually really fun!
+Kayleigh Mcjannet No you are not weird...math is a beautiful language created by GOD our Savior.. great minds see it too ...Eistein and Degrasse and Faulken
I’m surprised i managed to do this with a notebook sheet of paper and it ended up being the perfect size for the drawings and the note i wrote for my boyfriends birthday present.
Nah no post, just made a booklet card for dads birthday, I only know how to make small envelopes and I need a big one for the booklet card I mentioned. I'm making this with 2 a4s stuck together. Okay not big enough... I'll do 4 a4s ^_^ Thanks, your video helps a lot! The 4 a4s worked, thanks to your video ^_^ Thank you
This works rely well! I have made a few, but I don't think the ratios she gave work very well. I think those only work if you are making an envelope with the same ratios as a normal one, but a different size. I have tried to make one for a birthday card, and the shape always comes out about the same. Great video though.
Question. Are these dimensions for the paper after its folded? should I fold my letter first, measure it then based off of the folded letter do my math for the envelope? how do I know how big of paper to start with for the unfolded envelope? Thanks Sam!
Very nice envelope, and very well explained. I made a small version to try it out and it works very well. The only problem is that it takes a lot of paper. I make regular envelopes with one sheet of paper or card stock 81/2" by 11". I guess this would be good for special envelopes, but too expensive for making lots of them. Thanks for the tutorial.........I will make this again for special cards.
Bonjour, c'est dommage que la vidéo soit en anglais... Je suis venue dessus car le titre + la description sont en français... je m'attendais donc à voir un *tuto en français* .
Easy to make and useful. Thanks. It doesn't seem to work on all rectangular papers - I tried various different sizes including a broadsheet newspaper :(
She used to have lots of tutorials on her boxes, but Tomoko Fuse asked her to take the videos down, and she did out of respect. But she has recommended her books, you can find them on Amazon.com.
Well, it's a nice video with good instructions. But it doen't work with all sizes att all. It works if you have a somewhat "ordinary" rectangle, but if you like me wants a wider envelope you don't get a lid att all, just a pocket.
Good video, but this did not work out for me when trying to make a more squarish-size envelope. I needed finished size envelope of 6" x 4.5" - so using your math, I cut piece of paper 12" (2x6") by 13.5" (3x4.5"). I followed the folding exactly as you did, but didn't end up with a useable envelope. Does this not work for more squarish shape envelopes?
Ignore the hate. I thought you explained it pretty well. If you didn't talk at all, people would complain. You're talking "a lot" to explain to people and they just aren't grateful. You explained very well. Guess that's why this is a tutorial. Also, there's a mute button folks, learn how to use it. (And I don't mean for the video)
***** origami (any level) can be challenging to people, the steps get all messed up if you make one tiny mistake, it may seem really easy to people who know how to determine their mistakes and follow instructions directly but some people find that hard
Thank you I just made one for our local Chinese resturant, it's their New Year and I wrote Happy New Year in gold on the red envelope and put the tip money in it. That worked out great so again thank you for sharing that neet idea.
It was the perfect size for the little cards I handmade for my dad for Christmas! :) Thank you so much!!

Thanl You! Since it's around Christmas this is great to learn!

Great tutorial, heather! Just made one, thanks a lot!
WOW cool it really works! YAY!!! (I said it really works because sometimes other people's origami does not always work, or look funny, but yours looks like mine so I think I made it right.)

Coool... Thank you... You did it great and very easy..!!!!
it is awsome I don't no why people have disliked it 😕
Thank you for this tutorial, it worked well for me the only thing that is slightly different is that I don't have a point at the end but that doens't really bother me. Maybe it is because I used a A4 format from Europe because I live there ;)
Am I the only one who thinks the math at the beginning was really soothing and satisfying? I dunno I'm weird
Kayleigh Mcjannet You are not the only one Kayleigh, you are not weird. Common Core may make you think so, but you're not. Math is actually really fun!
naw i get what u mean i mean i HATE math but it was um yeah "soothing" is the right word for it it kind of set the mood
Kayleigh Mcjannet I love math.
+goten igarashi ikr yeah me too

She' s verry good at crafts
Thank you so very much I appreciate it
🌈💅🏻🧖♀️😍🎉🙏👍
Thanks For Showing everyone!!😀
Thanks, this worked perfectly! Simple and easy to understand! Thanks so much! : )
Wonderful tutorial!!! Great idea!!! Easy least!!! What's with the rude comments? How dare you all be so freaking mean!!!!
This did not work for a 7x10 inch card. I used a 20x21 inch sheet of paper. The top flap didn’t even fold over to close the envelope.
Based by mine, I think sizes similar to a square get a bit wonky
Helps when in need for a letter or school
PS: keep up the good work
Thank u so much for u teaching.... I hope u dont stop making a video... I luv u video😘

Really Appreciate this! Totally helpful! :D
Thanks!... simple and fast. Just what I wanted. :)
AT LEAST SHE GOT MORE LIKES THAN HATE'S! THE ONES WHO DISLIKED ARE THE ONE'S WHO WEREN'T PAYING ATTENTION!!!!
i like this kind of origami but i had a little trouble but then i got it YAY! :D

So, lastly you crumple up the paper. Oh and look, you have a beautiful crumpled flower.
***** origami (any level) can be challenging to people, the steps get all messed up if you make one tiny mistake, it may seem really easy to people who know how to determine their mistakes and follow instructions directly but some people find that hard
***** true
So lastly, it's 2014. Oh look, you are in 1st grade.
I am from the future
You are good can you make the bookshelf
Numbers aren't the same as what was written out. At:56 it says the ratio on the length is 1.5, but 37 to 18.5 is a ratio of 2.
she could of just said 37 divided by 2 then 28.5 divided 3 it would = the same thing and is much easier
Thank you. This is why I scrolled down for comments. So agree. I have to make a large envelope. A regular size envelope can be bought.
Thanks this really helped me! ☺️
