      Almost as much love and effort as Surfer puts into being a schizo on Discord. But seriously, considering the complexity of modelling, texturing and coding in that time period, the fact everything lines up so cleanly with the movie is testament to their dedication. -ED-1TA

      We understand, we're hopeful about the future as well. Having good regular viewers is important, every bit as much as monetary support. To everyone who can spare $0, you're still doing your part if you're here to watch. The things you can do for free are still valuable to The Bread Circus.
      If you know a person or community who might like our videos, you could tell them where to find us. A few people have said we rekindled an interest, which is always lovely to hear. Convincing the RUclips algorithm that our videos are good, that's a big help. Watching all the way to the end of a video. Leaving a comment and clicking the Like button. All of these make the numbers go up, getting the channel a little way closer to being sustainable. -DZ & ED-1TA

    My headcanon is the Trade Federation built tanks, STAPs, blaster rifles etc for sale to humanoids, then built humanoid battledroids as an expedient way to use that equipment (& the factories and logistics to build and supply them) when Sidious recruits them. If they'd been out to fight large-scale wars from the start, they'd have more integrated droid/weapon platforms like the Droideka, Vulture, and B2.
    (because that's the only way it makes sense to me to have a droid grasping controls designed for humanoid hands)

    • @platyhelminthes2877
      @platyhelminthes2877 10 месяцев назад +1

      It makes sense - if the B1 droids were marketed as a cheap way to get a military force up and running, then it would be cost effective to build humanoid droids so that they could make use of existing technology and equipment. I also allows them to quickly crew any type of ship without having to refit it for full automation.

    Borvo's ship looks like a nice light to medium freighter. Seems like they based it on the Action V freighter and is definitely my favorite ship from this game. I like how all the designs fit in with the Star Wars lived in feel.

    I absolutely loved this game as a kid. In the days before the GameCube and rogue squadron 2 (I never had Rogue Squadron 1 as a kid) this was about as close as I could get to experiencing the epic space battles of Star Wars for myself. I would play the two space missions over and over.
    I always thought that the Naboo police fighter and Naboo Bomber were super cool designs that deserved to be featured in more games and media beyond just this one game.
    Also, fun fact - when I first played the final level, (I was about 7 years old) I kept failing the mission because I could not for the life of me find the shield generator on the droid control ship that you have to disable, and I died over and over.
    At some point several days or weeks later, I was able to beat the mission after referencing Star Wars Episode 1 Incredible Cross Sections for the location of the shield generator. Sure enough, it was exactly where it said it should be!
    Bravo to the game devs, that's true attention to detail.

    I tried to comment right before you took down the original video into private. I will finally get to finish the video tomorrow when I have the time.
    I'd be very interested in seeing you talk about the other Factor 5 games, of course, but I think it would further be neat to explore other Star Wars material with this same formula of approach, things like TIE Fighter, Empire at War, or a full break down of the classic West End Games sourcebook or even board games like Battle for Hoth or the more recent Rebellion. Or to take apart the Thrawn Trilogy in its majesty. There's a lot of things to look at and discuss that I think you could contribute quite a lot of insight for.
    Your method of approaching Star Wars lore and analyzing the material is unique and very welcome. I greatly appreciate your clear love for the Expanded Universe and all the surrounding material, the way you approach it and discuss the interconnected and entangled elements of world building.

    You missed 1 important thing with Mission 10. In Borvo's mine if you fly your speeder into the blue shield/energy of the temple in the middle of the mine it'll recharge your shields "repairing" your craft. Lt. Sykes even says some dialog "Strange, that energy field strengthened my shields?"

    • @thebreadcircus
      @thebreadcircus  8 месяцев назад +2

      You're absolutely right, I did miss that one on my first playthrough. Though I believe there is some dialogue hinting toward it: I could tell there was something fishy going on, but I moved on after a couple of attempts to find a way into that building.
      By the time I was recording footage for the video, I had been inside... but the script was already getting quite long, so we don't show off the recharge. -DZ

      The way I remember it, we'd talked about doing an episode on Battle for Naboo. This had been quite early on, around the range of part 4-6 in our series. At the time I was doubtful, and as we got close I even considered suggesting we veto the BfN episode. Then I played the game, and my mind was instantly changed. It's an impressive game, I can see why it still has so many loyal fans.
      As for the N-1 Starfighter game, I played that for the first time a year ago. I'd just fallen in love with the podracer game, so I was looking forward to Starfighter. At the time, I didn't get the hang of the controls or even finish the tutorial level. Steam says I've spent only 12 minutes in the game. One day I'll give it a proper attempt: I can't remember if I tried using a controller, or mouse and keyboard. I'm also interested in the game Jedi Starfighter, which I assume is related. -DZ

      It would be great to try that out, though there isn't a proper joystick in the house. I played through using an Xbox controller, which I've loved since we soldered together an adapter for the 360 (which is basically identical to the later Xbone and Excess). The first game I'd try a joystick on, though, would probably be Elite Dangerous: the controller feels a bit limiting there.
      Right you are, this game does include Darth Maul's ship. Now that you mention it, the Sith Infiltrator is the only vehicle in the game I didn't cover. Of the three bonus missions, one has you shooting it down, and another lets you fly it against Naboo forces. If this video had been a dedicated review of the game, I would've included the secret missions and Maul's ship.
      However, this was made as part of our TPM project. It was getting quite long, and those (non-canon?) missions would've been a distraction from the movie itself. For similar reasons, our video on the SWE1 Racer game only covered the movie podracers, not the ones exclusive to the game. It's not ideal, I do like completeness for its own sake, but I think the result is better this way. -DZ

    From an old book I recall, most shields act like a constantly replenishing atmosphere so long as the machinery can take the strain, shield generators can breakdown as a result of the simple intensity of energy going through it. It's not so much many layers as a sort of gradient field that's being weakened over time in specific areas or given more energy and redoubled in a specific quadrant. The closer you are to the source the more intense the shield, thus why shield generators on Imperial designs are largely located around the rear third in order to protect the vital components such as bridge, generator, engines, and majority of the weapon batteries. I do not recall the direct source unfortunately as this was well over 10 years ago. To show a design standard that explains this distinction Imperial designs usually have a large capacity but once they go down they're typically a lot less effective at protecting themselves being isolated systems than Alliance designs. IIRC Mon Cals are designed with the generators inside the hull, less vulnerable and easier to repair but somewhat less effective or efficient at defending the ship directly from burst damage as the method of keeping these shields up is directly replacing parts on the shield generator under strain while they're online as compared to an Imperial bridge generator which has a more brute force solution able to take more burst fire but less sustainable due to being difficult to reach for repairs to my understanding, focused primarily on surviving long enough to throw its full turbolaser array at a target until it ceases to exist.
    Then there's also of course the difference of particle and deflector shields, and that particle shields have to be deactivated to launch ships, particle weapons, or other such elements which could imply the SSD had TIEs within its bridge deflector area when the A-Wings hit it or perhaps was launching concussion missiles or other such weapons. Seems odd but it's not entirely without possibility.

    51:06 wasn’t the first pronunciation of “Tantive” in the 1981 radio drama, and similar to (or possibly a misspelling of) “tantivy,” meaning “gallop” or “swift” (a fitting name).
    Still not as bad as “Coruscant,” another real word (“glittering”) that has been mispronounced since The Phantom Menace. It’s jarringly different in the “Star Wars: TIE Fighter” briefings.

      Earth is correct: so far, that's the only world we've designed boats for. There are slight differences in the way a ship might be designed, depending if it's meant for the Pacific or Atlantic oceans. Building a hull for the Mediterranean or Arctic gives even more reason to tweak the variables, such as changing the keel depth or creating an icebreaker. The water will be a different temperature, the wind and waves behave differently, even the amount of salt can vary.
      The point is, even on Earth a boat design needs a thousand conditions to be factored in. When you bring a watercraft down from orbit, it isn't necessarily seaworthy. In the case of the Trade Federation, they probably designed their gunboats to be generic, to work on a wide range of planets or moons. To handle an ocean of heavy water, with lithium chloride dissolved in the brine instead of salt, and to deal with different gravity. But as it happens, we know for certain the TF gunboat was made for use on Naboo. -DZ

      In principle, I do agree with you. If this video had been a dedicated stand-alone review of the game, I would've included the secret missions and Maul's ship.
-DZ

      You're going to have to download ROMs and emulators to get the best experience, most likely. To the extent a lot of these games exist on Windows, the are either hard to obtain or hard to make work (without a significant amount of messing around). I think the tie-in game might've been exclusive to the PSX. -ED-1TA

      @PoweredByFlow 6 месяцев назад

      @@thebreadcircus No the tie in game was also on PC, I've still have it there on the shelve. lol But the problem is you can't play it on modern Windows and having these games on GOG is just a very convinient way to play them without having to mess with Virtual Mashines. I've played it a bit on an PS1 emulator, but it just isn't really the same.

    Why didn’t the smuggler just raise its altitude or at the very minimum move away? You could say all the power was routed to the shields but really if they were moving then they’d be a harder target to hit. Seems very plot essential with no real purpose besides connecting the characters story wise
    On a side note If I don’t hit the notification bell then I most likely will forget you exist for a while (even though I am definitely subscribed) and that sounds like a bad thing, however when I finally remember there’s a much better chance of you have releasing several videos
