That's how drums should sound! Saw a clip with Stan Levy who said That Ludwig always Rich mellow tone! Due impart to how they would dry the wood! I met Mr. Morello through a mutual friend Perry Robinson,(Dear Perry) He was more of a coach than I was a student! None the less gave me key instruction that helped a lot! Sweet, sweet man Great,Great drummer! I've always used Ludwig and WFL,! Your sounding great Steve ! Your friend Eddie in Chattanooga!
Joe Morello. My all time favourite drummer. The Brubeck live recording of Castillian Drums from the Carnegie Hall concert contains , in my view, the greatest drum solo of all time. No competition.
Wonderful history in that Ludwig kit Joe Morello was one of the best ! I got my Paiste 602 cymbals in 1966, still have them. GREAT CYMBALS. Thanks Steve, love your playing!
I'm not even a drummer albeit I own an old ludwig club date but I find these videos fascinating. This guy gets the best out of all the kits he plays very inspirational and a great drummer.
I started drumming in the mid 1960's and the best investment I ever made was in about 1971 when I bought my Ludwig Super Sensitive snare that had been owned by a symphony orchestra. I think I paid $125 for it.
Thanks Steve, worked through the "Off the record" book back in the late 60's, pulled it out this morning .. still a tuff one to get through. Joe was a master! Love the cymbals!
Take five was the biggest selling jazz single of all time, selling over a million copies. Take five was put together purely to present Joe's drum 🥁 solo!!
Gorgeous set and beautifully and tastefully played. I'm surprised to see the "Super Sensitive" snare as that was considered more for concert band and orchestra. I played in a 7 piece group in the early 70's and had a jet black pearl Mach 5 kit with an almost identical cymbal setup except they were all Zildjians. Sold that kit in 1975 with a full set of fiber cases for $750 and they were like new. Yes, I'm still kicking myself.
Joe was my First drum texhnique Hero. Could you give me an advice where I could find a pair of Sticks similar to the 11A Ludwig Joe Morello model. They break easy near the tip and have to be handled with Care, but they are unparalleled for sensitive bounce strokes.Which Stick model are you using in this Video ? Greetings from Andy Moehring
Nice kit & well played as usual. I thought Joe was a Zildjian guy ? Take 5 was played on a Zildjian ride cymbal if I recall correctly. Of Course I could be wrong.
I have listened to Joe Morello all my life. I very much like his drumming. That said, his soloing always struck me as very academic, and held to (western) Classical form and style. I dig the guy, but not like I dig Philly Joe Jones or Max Roach. Those guys colored outside the lines!
Funny thing is that I might know who this set came from. Not sure how many sets Joe gave to people but I think I know two or three people who have stuff of his.

This set should be in a museum! Especially that signed cymbal :O

That whole album is one of my all-time favorites. Absolutely swinging drums throughout.
Wonderful history in that Ludwig kit
Joe Morello was one of the best !
I got my Paiste 602 cymbals in 1966, still have them. GREAT CYMBALS.
Thanks Steve, love your playing!
That floor tom!!!! The whole sounds great but boy did that floor tom sound glorious
That Floor Tom is to die for! What a sound.
This is the first time I've knowingly heard a set of 602s, and now I finally understand why they're so legendary. Lovely lovely cymbals.
A Ludwig/Paiste Joe Morello time capsule!
How cool is that!
Tastefully played Steve! 🏆🥁
What a true Historical timepiece. Steve.. Sounds and looks phenominal .PLus the books.. seen this kit played with Dave back in 71 I think.. WOW!
I love the description of the drums, but if I’m honest I’m only here for when he starts playing the drums. Such a beautiful player
Those tom toms sound great and the one guy is right , these belong in a museum !
It must feel unreal to make that instrument speak, knowing Joe Morello owned it... so cool😊
Joe Morello a master of technical
skills and musicality. Ludwig & Paiste the best of The best.
Thanks dear Steve beautiful
playing as usual.
Stunning set of one of the true legends of jazz, his sound on record always so huge and open. What a catch..beautiful
Joe, my hero!
If I had the money and I wasn't still a student I would buy it immediately.
A huge piece of history in this kit...wow
Please don't buy it so I can buy it myself in a few years ahah
What an honor to see these Drums. Oh how I wish I could have met Joe…. Thanks and Blessings Steve!
Rumour has it that they set the Atomic clock to Joe's left hand.
I love my Ludwigs super classics
Beautiful display!
Beautiful drum kit and awesome playing. It’s so great to see it preserved so well..
There is another clear picture of Morello with the metal snare drum. it is the cover of Another Step Forward LP from 1971.
Great tribute . Joe would be happy. You play great Steve . Thanks .
I'm not even a drummer albeit I own an old ludwig club date but I find these videos fascinating. This guy gets the best out of all the kits he plays very inspirational and a great drummer.
Hi Steve... This is one of your BEST solo

The snare is awesome. I'm a vintage collector / player for 45+ .

Wow! What an amazing thing to have. Perfect solo too.
Thanks Steve, worked through the "Off the record" book back in the late 60's, pulled it out this morning .. still a tuff one to get through. Joe was a master! Love the cymbals!
Managed to see the Dave Brubeck Quartet minus Joe sadly at St.Davids Hall Cardiff
i'm not a Ludwig lover but I always thought Joe's set sounded beautiful!! Looks too, as i love silver sparkle!!!
these sound excellent.
amazing

Gorgeous set, tone, and playing...thank you!
Now I’ve seen it, goals- great kit!!! Now I just need to win lottery
I enjoyed this video very much! Beautiful kit!
Armand S. ???
I met Joe once around 1995. I studied with Armand in Early 80's.
Gorgeous set and beautifully and tastefully played. I'm surprised to see the "Super Sensitive" snare as that was considered more for concert band and orchestra.

o que falar de Joe morello, simplesmente um dos melhores de todos os tempos.
Great info and content as always, best channel on YT for vintage drums, great player too 😊
Nice!!!
Wow! ❤
Which snare has more sound control.
This, or the Dynasonic..?

What skins and tuning do you use to get a sound like this?
Are cymbals pre serial number? I've a set just like those
But like how much in the end??
nice Joe's set, nice play!
Finally, we’ve managed to make synthetic cowhide.
Fannnnnnnnnnntastic
Sounds every bit as good as when Joe played it.
Joe didn't play jazz sized drums (12, 14, 20), but rock sized drums (13, 16, 22).
Nice kit & well played as usual. I thought Joe was a Zildjian guy ? Take 5 was played on a Zildjian ride cymbal if I recall correctly. Of Course I could be wrong.
Joe played Zildjian in the 50s and early 60s but moved to Paiste in the 60s and played them for many years.
I wonder where Joe’s DW drums are, which he used later in his career..
I sold those DW kits for Joe before he passed away.
LUDWIG 3ply.... nuff said

sounds like a copy of buddy rich to me but a real bass player is oscar pettiford
Awesome solo
