When this happened in Germany recently, unfortunately me and my family were lucky enough to be granted asylum in Japan. It was literally like escaping a warzone. Then the waiting game began until we got that pre-approval notice, and man, you should’ve seen us. We had to hustle over to the consulate for biometrics and more paperwork. The Residence Eligibility Certificate was the one that finally got us our spot on the emergency evacuation flight out of Frankfurt. So there we were, packed into a military plane like sardines, with nothing but our passports and those precious documents. Landing in Tokyo was just the first step. At Narita Airport, immigration officials handed us over to another set of authorities dealing with asylum cases. We got something like a manual filled with procedures we needed to follow and rights we now had. Crazy detailed. We queued for what felt like ages, with government officers guiding us every step. They processed our Entry Permissions and it was paperwork overload, but every signature, every stamp was taking us closer to some peace. Getting the Residence Cards was surreal. I barely recognized my own photo, everything happened so fast. They even had volunteers helping us decipher the forms that were filled with kanji. Thank goodness for those kind souls!! I work with MANY immigrants and they're hard workers, some work 15+ hours a day, go to school, take care of family. They don't get in trouble with the law. A relative in the UK reported that Muslims in the company he works for demanded time off for prayers. The time used for prayers was done on paid work time and did not count as regularly scheduled breaks. Non Muslim employees had to work while Muslims were praying. No it isn't a minority, EVERYONE is angry and tired of this crap! All people in different layers of society are really sick of this. It's a small country and it used to be peaceful. When this happened in Germany recently, unfortunately me and my family were lucky enough to be granted asylum in Japan. It was literally like escaping a warzone. Fires everywhere, streets that once felt like home looking more like a battlefield.
We made the decision to bolt when the sirens became our daily alarm. Reaching out to the Japanese Embassy was clutch; they were doing emergency processing for people like us. You can’t imagine the relief when they handed us the forms. The R2-J application for asylum seekers left my hand shaking. Filling out personal details, the circumstances back home, every small thing felt like it was life or death.
Then the waiting game began until we got that pre-approval notice, and man, you should’ve seen us. We had to hustle over to the consulate for biometrics and more paperwork. The Residence Eligibility Certificate was the one that finally got us our spot on the emergency evacuation flight out of Frankfurt. So there we were, packed into a military plane like sardines, with nothing but our passports and those precious documents.
Landing in Tokyo was just the first step. At Narita Airport, immigration officials handed us over to another set of authorities dealing with asylum cases. We got something like a manual filled with procedures we needed to follow and rights we now had. Crazy detailed.
We queued for what felt like ages, with government officers guiding us every step. They processed our Entry Permissions and it was paperwork overload, but every signature, every stamp was taking us closer to some peace.
Getting the Residence Cards was surreal. I barely recognized my own photo, everything happened so fast. They even had volunteers helping us decipher the forms that were filled with kanji. Thank goodness for those kind souls!!
Settling in is the next big thing. Everyone’s telling us where to go for what like housing support, job assistance, you name it. The tech scene here is crazy good, and I’m just itching to dive back into my studies once the dust settles.
Just hitting send on this message makes me realize how far we've come. From dodging embers to filling out a mountain of life-saving papers. Grateful doesn’t even cover it.

A couple of years ago (probably 5 or 6) I read a news article that the Netherlands actually had to close a bunch of prisons because they didn't have a high enough crime rate/enough criminals to keep all the prisons filled. Imagine that!

I'm from Holland and I already fled the country. We lose everything. Things get very expensive and there are no houses anymore for the Dutch people themselves. In order to start a family and live normally once again I decided to leave. I don't feel home anymore there which hurts.

I work with MANY immigrants and they're hard workers, some work 15+ hours a day, go to school, take care of family. They don't get in trouble with the law. A relative in the UK reported that Muslims in the company he works for demanded time off for prayers. The time used for prayers was done on paid work time and did not count as regularly scheduled breaks. Non Muslim employees had to work while Muslims were praying. The union had to get involved and threaten strike action to get a similar agreement for non Muslim workers.

The „violent“ ones actually have just started reacting after 33 years of being passive and peaceful. In this case also only because of the pepperspray use by the police. Eritreans are actually a very kind, rather quiet type of people. But being peaceful and passive leads to massive refugee influx in Europe. Inside of the Country it’s a military dictatorship, so you will immediately get shot for peaceful protest.
There are so many political prisoners in Eritrea. We have l No human rights and sadly to get those rights we need to stop those who fund the government. We want to go home.
