I lived in Preston in 2010 and went to the docks many times and one of my memories of being there in December 2010 while it was snowing seeing the steam engine on a Xmas Special will try and find the photo
Hi Jenny and Bob, I had a look at the website "Chuffs, Puffs & Whistles" too - interesting isn't it? Must get up there and have a little walk around the dock basin. Also, sorry to be pedantic about your link but it's Shanklyhotel. Thanks for the Vlog.
Thankyou Bob, i'm very interested in anything to do with ships or shipping including Naval ships. My father, John McRae Wilson, (deceased) was a stoker on the old coal burning ships of the past, for many years and came ashore for good when, myself, my 5 brothers and 1 sister, came along. He served on ships on the New Zealand coast and on international ships around the world, possibly he had been to Preston Docks during his many years at sea.
Maybe the tower is for pulling the plug out??? 😁😁🐈Maybe not!? It looked very chilly , Well done for braving that on an uninspiring day weather wise.🚙🐈🏅
Throughout the 89 year life of the Dock it was only in profit for 17 years because of the cost of constant dredging.. It closed 12 years before the EU was founded with the Maastricht Treaty in 1993.
Love walking around dock areas, but, sad to see the working dock gone. Thank you for sharing.

Fyffes banana ships unloaded there in the 50s
I’ve walked around the docks a few time, Marquis MH just around the corner
Yes, we hadn't been there for a while, we used to go a lot because we bought our previous motorhome from Marquis.
Nice look around Preston docks, thanks for that. 👍👍👍

No surprise it closing in the early 80s .Not long after we joined the EU, say no more.

No trip round the docks is complete without a mozy in the marine boat shop, and a visit to marquis motorhome/caravan dealers....
