My grandfather has an a/c planter identical to yours only bigger. behind each unit is a chain that drags the ground and will cover your rows nicely. Awesome video!
Good question, it's been a bit since I used this planter! I also have a hydraulic top link which can make adjustments on the fly in the field, but it is more an 'eyeball' kind of thing. At some point I hope to get a new planter!
Have you found a website of company for sourcing seed plates and info on this planter. I have the same one and I need seed plates for sunflower seeds. Also need the hoppers for it. Mine are way too old and dry rotted.
Here's an idea to think about.... get a smooth rod and make a hole through the top of the hopper lid.... so it can move up and down friction free... the other end mount or attach it to a plate and place it on top of the corn in the hopper... as you drive around both rods should drop at the same time so you can tell from the tractor if you are seeding or not from each hopper... just thinkin.... ;)
Thanks bud. Yeah, I will do something like this, or at a minimum make marker line markers that I can check.. Sucks to find out this way! But that's just how it is :)
Thanks and good luck. I once argued with a guy on tractor forum.. He argued til he was blue in the face that a NX 45 or 50 will do all the same as an NX60.... I gave up arguing with him, but I got the biggest one I could get, only because I was in your shoes with the 2 tractors I had before this one and realized how valuable every bit of extra power can be... but you are right, the 45 ought to be very capable, maybe just take a little longer for some tasks....
hi kapper. It does not matter mate whether new or used equipment. It all takes time to settle them down. you are planting summer crops and I ampreparingfor winter here in Australia! Calving startingin 2 weeks for me.
Kapper Outdoors . Winter where I live is hard mate. My farm is in the high country. We are 900 metres above see level. So snow and cold weather commences June. Google up Orange NSW.
to solve your is it planting or not planting problem pick up the planter wail your moving then stop and back up you should see corn seed sitting ontop the ground if you only see corn seed on one side or none you know to go take a look and figure out what is going on
Love the Farmer Fixes, Yep, duct tape, adjustable wrench, zip ties, hammer, pliers and wire. Start up is always a bear. You are getting there, stay positive Kapper!
you need to check the seed drop tubes before you start planting. and 2 do a drop test on it by setting a coffee can or pie pan under each row unit and roll the wheel a full turn and see if the seed drops out the bottom of the units
Yeah, from now on I will!! I'm working the kinks out of it... Just fixed that 'lean' you see in the videos.. The front cutting disk was not set right (the one that kept falling off LOL)... Welded up some stoppers and got it leveled out now :)
Can't wait to see them grow! Everytime i watch your videos since I've started watching your channel i see improvement & growth even if you don't notice. Keep em coming Kapper. 👍👍👍👍
Mr Kapper, I know I'm 3 years late, but the video got my attention and you put a lot of work into that plot, so how did the planter work? Did your corn come up every other row?
The planter has worked pretty well after I got things ironed out. The corn came up, but the deer devoured it when it put the tassels on!!! This year I've got like 11 acres of soybeans, we'll see if I succeed! Thanks!
Good question, but long answer. No tilling is better overall for crops and the environment, particularly the ground. Also, fresh ground dirt attracts all the corn eaters!! Thats the short answer :)
Even new equipment can be finikee. You have a solid planter, just change all the bolts and worn parts. Cost you nothing but a little time. You have to keep checking your seed. I like it. Good Luck, Vinny
Don't know if ya'll have Grainger stores where you live or not but they carry a very good penetrating product call "LPS KB88" made by LPS Laboratories. LPS has changed their formulas over the years but the current product is the LPS KB88. I have used their products since 1969 when I got my first car. Had to replace the exhast manifold donut gasket. Those bolts were really rusted and stuck. Couple squrts and I was able to break them loose without twisting the studs out of the manifold. Some Co-Ops might carry it too. I think it is better than WD-40. Really liking your videos, I'm not a farmer but both of my grandfathers were, makes me realize just how hard they had to work.
thanks for the info. Not aware of a Grainger store, but have not looked either.. Yeah, and I only do this stuff as a hobby, I would not envy the farming career people! Tough lifestyle for sure..
Looks like you've got the old AC planter dialed in pretty well. Great video as usual, I'm watchin here in N.E. You have amazing ambition brother, Semper Fi
Yes, this one is. But I've noticed on some of the same planters that they do not have the front cutting disk. That front cutting disk is necessary for sure to try to no till. And even though it is a 'no till' it has limitations I'm finding out. I just planted some more corn plots in tall, alive weeds. We'll see how that goes! :) Good luck!
I have same planter. But not notill and I have ac planter plates. Yours has been converted to john deere plates . Listen for the thumpers clicking. Stop alot and lift up the planter and turn the back wheel and watch the seed drop out the bottom. New or old you need to watch everything while your planting.
When older or used equipment is all painted up and pretty, most of the time the paint is covering up the problems. Remember, the devil is always in the details. looks good the job it is doing. thanks for the video.
Yep, understand thanks. But part of the issue was when it was level the rear packing wheels were not spinning/gripping well, so I'd have to tilt my hydraulic top link to compensate. It's always a continual learning curve and improvement operation for sure. Thanks.
@@kapperoutdoors I'd go to eBay and look for an owners manual it will tell you how to adjust it. I'm a big Allis Chalmers guy but have 0 experience with that style planter
Oh... you are way off.... All of this to support wildlife, deer, turkeys, birds, rabbits, squirrels, waterfowl, predators, etc. etc. All of this to give a food source when another polar vortex hits and we get sub zero temps for prolonged time which kills all green browse.. All of this to spend some quality time with my kids in the field so that we have some good experiences... All of this so that when I am able to (health issues..) get out and hunt that I enjoy seeing nature at work... Not just deer, many other critters.. All of this so that I feel some sense of accomplishment that I am improving the overall value of our land... And yes, maybe, I might harvest a deer or two... But I will be supporting HERDS of deer. So, just what is it that you do to support wildlife?????
Love that Mcquiver job with the tape. We all have some work with used equip. Just makes it interesting.
My grandfather has an a/c planter identical to yours only bigger. behind each unit is a chain that drags the ground and will cover your rows nicely. Awesome video!
How do you do your initial height adjustments? Do you raise front coulters up initially to set the double disc depth then adjust the front down?
Good question, it's been a bit since I used this planter! I also have a hydraulic top link which can make adjustments on the fly in the field, but it is more an 'eyeball' kind of thing. At some point I hope to get a new planter!
@@kapperoutdoorsI bought one last year and will be using it next spring. Any tips or tricks? Any issues you have notice?

There are all kinds of aftermarket seed plates for these, just look on Amazon to start. Good luck!

I'm wondering what the can on the tractor is for! Evening out the
hmmm Not sure what you mean exactly? Although this was an older video so I might not recall lol
What model planter is that ? Looks like a nice unit.
I think like an AC 4 maybe, it's been awhile since I've used it. Actually I got rid of the 2 row and got the same unit in a 4 row.
Hello! Would'nt you still get the good results with the sowing without turbodisc? Seems like its pretty damagin to the soil. Thanks for the attention!
Where can you buy replacement plates to plant soybeans or corn?
you can find them online there are a lot of aftermarket plates for them.
My Grandpa always said you could plant corn all morning and the planter would work great stop for dinner and come back and nothing would work right.
LOL, that's funny, because I came in for lunch and took a break for awhile!!!
I like my kioti also wish I would've got a little bit bigger than the nx4510 but it does what needed it to do thanks for Sharing

Wow, very cool, we're on opposite sides! Good luck on the winter coming! (c'mon man, what's winter in Australia?? like 60's & 70's ?? LOL)

Wow, that's amazing. See, I learned something new again.. So you have snow equipment? Plow/snowblower, or just occasional snow? Thanks
No snow equipment. Occasional snow but cold days and nights till October when spring really comes for us here in Orange.

Had the same planter in 3 row and I loved it
Yeah, I'm going to upgrade to a 4 row, but the planter works well, thanks.

Love the Farmer Fixes, Yep, duct tape, adjustable wrench, zip ties, hammer, pliers and wire. Start up is always a bear. You are getting there, stay positive Kapper!
Thanks man! Yeah, Its funny now a couple days later :). But I'm working on getting her dialed in!!
How was the sunflower crop?
crappy! Could not keep the weeds down. thanks.

Keep it up and stay positive Kapper!

Where did you buy the planter? I’ve been looking for something like that. Do you know what that implement weighs?
they are all over the internet. It is light as far as an implement goes. Probably not more than 400 ish.
You planted whole day and you didnt check corn in the ground like every 30 minutes? it takes minute or two to see if there is 5 seeds in every row.
Always enjoy all your videos! Keep up the good work! Thanks
Thanks man I appreciate that! Take care
All you can do is fix it when you buy used. Been there more times than I care to admit!! A new coat of paint DON T mean ZIP!!
ha! lol, I hear you! But I'm working the kinks out of it.. Soon I will have more confidence in it!

Hello, Sir
Where are you getting your seeds from please?
There are sweet corn seeds?
Thanks
No, sorry not sweet corn just field corn. I usually get that from Rural King or a local coop. Thanks.
isn't that going to be the new pond?
No.... totally different areas. Thanks.
im not much of a deer hunter. but why not lightly disc it then plant? thx its looking good
Good question, but long answer. No tilling is better overall for crops and the environment, particularly the ground. Also, fresh ground dirt attracts all the corn eaters!! Thats the short answer :)
Thx, that pond addition will be sweet.
No till planting prevents erosion and soil deprivation. Its a much better way to plant, saves soil moisture as well.
Keep going! Enjoy watching your journey!

Why is the ground not cultivated
That's what no till is. No cultivation
Looks like you've got the old AC planter dialed in pretty well.

Thanks Brother, I appreciate it. Did some repair on it yesterday, I think I'm getting it close to dialed in! Semper Fi
Unfortunately you get what you pay for. AC has been gone for many decades. I plant radishes turnips beats in my plots, Best of luck
Is that planted designed to no till? We have one just like it and never thought it was capable of no tilling effectively.
I wonder what he planted over this in the fall, no way that corn grew lol
Fall plots are much easier (except for drought)! lol
Okay, at 6:30 it looks like you have a little red sports car on your roof.
the mind can play terrible tricks on a guy! lol Unless Kioti put a sneak picture up there...? :)
I thought you were going to plant sweet corn
No fertilizer application on planter that’s a must to have
I agree but this was a budget planter for sure.
You need a better planter, Biggs Farm Equipment in Greencastle IN sells the best out there!!
I'm sure they do but I'm also on a budget trying to purchase as many things used as possible :-)

lol you are right! This year we planted about 11 acres of beans, but my buddy brought over his new planter! Thanks.
That planter should be running level , that's one reason it's not working as it should
Yep, understand thanks. But part of the issue was when it was level the rear packing wheels were not spinning/gripping well, so I'd have to tilt my hydraulic top link to compensate. It's always a continual learning curve and improvement operation for sure. Thanks.

Can't bait here and I believe that was the first time I used that planter...
Red tractor john deere quick hitch
that is coal mine msha tape.
I can see its all too new to you.
Who would plant corn for a food plot?? There are so many other more favorable options!!
All this just to shoot Bambi
