  • I purchased a Harbor Freight rotary tumbler and ran a few experiments with it. As a hobbyist and amateur jewelry maker I wasn't sure what to expect. Tag a long with me and see what you think.

I have been using Harbor Freight tumblers for 5 years now and love them. I did get a bad one at one time, real loud so I returned it for a new one. I had one completely stop working after four years of use. So I bought a new and paid the $16 to have 100% coverage on any parts or the whole machine for 2 years :) So that is what I will do from now on ! Your pieces are look great. Thanks for sharing😊

Thanks for sharing. The randomness of quality definitely seems to be the major drawback of these tumblers.

Yes I got that coverage too how can you go wrong! Do you have a video on them as well!

Thank you for the video. I have a couple of the same tumblers and have had issues with the belts which seems to be a common theme with the brand. They do come with plenty of extra belts and they sell extra belts for very cheap so they must know they break a lot... Thank you again, you deserve more subscribers than you have, you are a very talented person.

Oh, wow! Thank you for the compliment. I was just reading up on the belt issues last night. It seems the most successful fixes have been to use vacuum cleaner belts, but I haven't been able to find one the right size, yet. One person wrote that they've been using the metal-less hair ties that are designed for thick hair. My wife doesn't know it,, yet, but she's down one hair tie. ;)

This is the first time I've watched a video of this kind. I am a rock collector (small little rocks). My favourite thing to do would be to walk along the beach and look at rocks. The beach quartz is perfect to mix in with another colour for a necklace, or even by itself. Loved looking over the results of your tumbler. Thank you for sharing!💞Canada.

Thanks for making my video the first. I love the little rocks, but they do not get enough credit in the tumbling world. If I remember right, my first video of What Came Out of the Tumbler featured a large amount of small rocks, too.

My crow brain is literally drooling at all the pretty, shiny stones you ended up with! So much yummy sparkle.

I have four of these things now. The first two weren't so great, but the last two have been running on their original belt for months. Definitely mixed results with these tumblers. I'm glad you liked the video. 😊

I run 2 harbor freight tumblers, 24, 7 and have no real problem with them. Now, I am 75 years old and just got around to trying to polish rocks that I have been picking up for years. Here is my tip for using harbor freight’s tumblers. Buy their 2 year warranty for twenty bucks. It comes with a three month warranty and that adds another 24 months to it. You can trade the whole thing in for a new one any time in that time period. I tried one of their vibratory machines, destroyed it because I really didn’t know what I was doing. They took it back, no questions asked, so I bought another tumbler.

For sure! I'm not usually a fan of protection plans, but they're solid gold with these little machines.

Thanks enjoyed it! What kind of grease I did pick one up using for the first time now I got 3 in on oil they didn’t specify? Any thoughts they packaged an extra belt I put a video on yesterday showing the unpacking on my channel of Shorts.

I use PB Blaster for my lubricant, although I've started to replace the plastic bushings with regular bushings. I've found polyeurethane belting cord is great, too. I had a lot of belts break at first, so I needed a cheap alternative to replace them.

I wonder if you could tumble by placing a sealed back or something of the sort inside a washing machine

That's always the second dilemma of tumbling, isn't it? What to do with all the shiny rocks.

That's a project that I put on pause and haven't gotten around to finishing. Now that I know there's some interest, I'll see what footage I have and show you how I did it.

Of the two I have, one's been a constant struggle, the other has been zero problems. These HF tumblers certainly not the best on the market, but you kind of get what you pay for.
