Good start! He is the best, well known in Europe in Asia, but not much in the USA. As Van Clibourn he won Tchaikovsky competition, much later though. Emil Gilels was his mentor and friend, but he definitely has his own style.
@@mackiceicukice you're welcome. I actually agree with you on that, although his trills are superb, there's a lot more going on in this sonata which really stands out.
How difficult is it to say or listen to " this is the best interpretation" or "best pianist ever". In reality, there is a group of selected super -humans upthere, and categorizing them could be just a matter of taste...but even then is difficult. Such unique performance talents. When we speak about Beethoven, different case, yes he can be the one and only.
A wonderful performance of one of my favourite piano pieces. Especially the first movement, unhurried, the beauty of each note clearly articulated with not too much pedal. So many other pianists seem to rush through
Beethooven marked Presto for this movement. Presto in Italian means fast, very quickly. This movement should be played fast. You didn’t have to blame or compare other pianists in order to just admire Sokolov’s playing.
Started learning this song from one of my Dad's old college books and then I decide to listen to it after learning the first page. This is me just now discovering that it's an almost thirty minute long piece and abandoning ship.
Answer: people who think the greatest performance is the one they've been listening to for the last twenty years - by a deceased pianist, of course. They're always the best! 😏
¡Inigualable! ¡El mejor!
СПАСИБО МАЭСТРО!!! Низкий ПОКЛОН!👏👏👏👏👏🎹
Beethoven à son meilleur. Il parle, nous écoutons. Il nous émeut toujours. Merci M.Sokolov pour votre incarnation de cette divine musique.
I don't know Sokolov at all well - yet! What a serious find he is, how wonderful to discover a performer interpreting as if by magic . . .

The absolute precision of that trill at 6:00 I just a perfect illustration of why Sokolov plays in his own league
Trill???
@@mackiceicukice yes. the one that concludes the previous section, one second before, 5:59
@@nezajaz Yes, wonderful..but not that unusual.Sokolov is great for many other reasons alhough not everobody's cup of tea. Thanks for the answer.

He’s got an enormous technique, quite beyond what the usual suspects are able to provide (and, then, only as a form of amusement it seems).
just for personal reference:
exposition - 00:00
development - 04:13
recapitulation - 05:12
0:01 Presto
7:58 Largo e Mesto
19:23 Menuetto
22:47 Rondo
Thanks 💛
The best interpretation of this piece, so subtle!

Please don't contribute nonsense like this
gewohnt souverän und ein für mich wundervolles Tempo im 3. Satz
Genius! Bravo!
I love Sokolov's interpretation
So touching 💫

It's presto though... one could argue he's not playing fast enough
Personally I like the 1st movement faster. It gives the piece more character.
@@JoeCJK i feel that sokolov achieves more character with the slower tempo than any other pianist's interpretation, though. every detail is perfect
Agreed

2nd movement performance is really something special here.
Make sure you listen to it also!

Who the fuck dislike this ?

çok güzel...
Fabulous. A crying shame GS doesn't like to travel so you'll never see him outside Europe.
PiccadillyAvenue: That’s a real shame. If he ever changes his mind, San Francisco 🌉 is ready to welcome him. 😎🎹
@@marshallartz395 Chicago too!
Great! He plays mov 2 like I want to. (I've been practicing it. My goal seems to be his interpration.)
Вашей целью должна быть СВОЯ интерпретация))!

Hello may I ask you the year of recording?
The first movement is marked "presto"! Why the slower tempo?
Why not.....up to the pianist on the day.

Sure. Richter. You bet. 😏
