Considering that the Sky Trilogy is my favorite arc in the Trails series I would love to see that on the channel; perhaps more cut down than even CS was if you think it is necessary..
I'd probably suggest the first option since dividing your time between games just hampers progression through all of them. The Sky Trilogy will be a hefty time sync already without a sidegame included. Concentrating solely on them helps you beat them faster anyway so you can jump into CS3 quicker, which you seemed most eager to do. This is probably the last best chance to play the Sky games to prevent being utterly confused as the series goes on. But if you feel like playing a side game will stave off Trails burnout, than prioritize that instead. Fair warning about Sky games though. Story and character wise it's peak, but in terms of gameplay it's like using the wayback machine. It plays fine but it's very bare bones with a lot of the conveniences of later games nowhere to be seen.
As much as I love watching your trails vids, I'd definitely take any option wherein you don't burn out on the trails series. Personally I've had to take a lot of breaks from trails since starting Cold Steel 1, because prior to that I binged all of Sky and Crossbell in the span of half a year and I definitely got burnout after that.
CS3, while fine to play without the other games, is the converging point for the liberl, crossbell and erebonia storylines. You'll still get the story but it'll feel like you're the third wheel during several scenes because you don't know what they're taking about. Imagine playing the Lloyd and Rixia part of CS2 without playing the crossbell games. The game will tell you they're important, but you the player won't understand how or why. Also CS3 spoils a important bits of the sky story, so going back afterwards wouldn't be the best experience. Personally I'd like to see the sky trilogy first. Otherwise maybe just watch/react to a detailed summary of the Sky games before you go ahead.
Personally, I played the entire Cold Steel saga as my intro to Trails, and while some things definitely went over my head, I never felt like I was lost or overly confused. They do a decent job of giving the basic overview of any prior events as they become relevant. That said, if you want to play Sky first, I say go ahead. Great games. Though I will say that if you want to hurry to CS3, you can skip Sky 3. It's for the most part a filler arc, giving us Kevin's character arc and tying up some minor character arcs from Sky. Only other thing is it does give us some of Renne's... darker backstory. So uh... be prepared for that if you decide to play. If you want suggestions for any lesser known games like Trails, I will say the Gravity Rush duology is another favorite of mine. Interesting mechanics and fun ways to move about.
DO NOT SKIP 3rd!!! It is very important for Calvard (in multiple ways and for multiple calvard games; you will especially regret not playing it by Kai) and understanding the foundation of a major plot point in CS4 and Reverie. I also highly recommend playing Trails into Nayuta before Daybreak II as well....
I would not mind seeing the Sky Trilogy here. I've already watched about 8 other Sky let's plays so what's one more? I think Trails fans would be interested in seeing your reaction/thoughts to major characters, moments and combat encounters. That said have you considered doing two games and just rotating uploads for them? This might help prevent burn out of both games and also help get more eyes on the channel if you're interested in trying to grow it. Alternatively now would be a good time for a break (only if you think you'd get burned out) because there's a good chance that you'll want to continue the sky games as you end each entry and completely ignore any plan you set up for yourself. It really will depend on how much you like the characters in Sky. The main story is a slow burn early in but the character writing and NPCs are excellently written. Now if you want to play the Sky games on your own I think that is also a viable option. You've already played the crossbell games on your own so I think that would be fine as well. Honestly do whatever you think you'd enjoy more. You still have 3 games in the Cold Steel arc and by the time you catch up at least 2-3 games in the arc after plus you have Nayuta if you want to play that (which is more of an action rpg that most trails fans haven't played from what I've noticed) so even if you play Sky in your own time you have plenty of trails to continue with. I will say as someone who was in similar shoes I started with Cold Steel and played to the end of Cold Steel 3 before going back and playing the Sky trilogy and then Crossbell. Cold Steel 3 has some spoilers for both arcs (and the game makes it obvious what it is) so I do think playing the Sky trilogy before CS3 is probably the right call.
Personally, I’d love to see you do the Sky Trilogy on the channel, but Trails Burnout is a really thing. The main Xenoblade Chronicles Trilogy, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Are also good choices, for games to play on the channel. The Ys series, also by Falcon, is a great choice as well. Though, it’s more of an action RPG if that’s your thing. If you want to play something a little less story heavy, then I always recommend Hollow Knight, it’s a great introduction to the Metroidvania-like genre. Which also includes any of the mainline 2D Metroid games, or the Metroid Prime Trilogy. If you want to lose weeks of your life, you could always try a play through of Satisfactory or Factorio. However this comes with a heavy warning that games in the Factory building genre can be very _very_ difficult to put down once you start playing. Anyway, hope this helps narrow down a few options.
Happy for anything trails based, so sky on or off is fine, or waiting for CS3 is fine also but you do you 😊 but if you play something else definitely story based would still be fun
More Trails is always good, option 1 would definitely be my go-to, there's a lot of scenes in the first trilogy I'm always eager to see people go through Now, there's also the fact of how are *you* handling these games back-to-back-to-back? Burning out on them is the last thing we would want for anyone so if you feel like you need a break from the series, now might be a good time
For me, I played through CS1-4 (with a bit of knowledge on Zero and Azure) without playing the Sky trilogy and I still had an absolute blast with Cold Steel. But then after 4 I went back to play the other games and enjoyed those just as much. I feel like Reverie is the only game where it feels like you absolutely should play the others since the story focus changes a bit there. But, I'll say play what you want whenever you want to. Personally, I would love to see other games too even though I don't know what I could recommend.
I think option 1 is good with having sky trilogy on here with your condensing style of videos of notable moments and getting those little details from the games you have already played retroactively kick in and understand them is best, but i fully think that if you want to side step into other games while you do, Go for it, because like you said you'd burnout on 3 games back to back for ages but look forward to whatever ends up being posted. Cold Steel 3 is on the distant horizon waiting no matter how long.
For something "different" yet similar the Ys series from falcom is also damn good, and much less connected than trails. Heavily recommend them at some point.
I love the trails series to the point I can not recomend any other game right now and I would love to see you play the sky trilogy (1 of them is still my favourite in the whole franchise) BUT I can perfectly understand not being tied to one thing and try other games. You should not make yourself fed up with these games either, they are great but they are a lot.
As someone who didn't play any prior game before clearing CS 4, i can say that you can play CS 3 comfortably just missing some character background. Xenoblade is cool and sky is also cool. Both work
Suggestion... Tales of Berseria! Or maybe one the recent Ys games. The Xenoblade trilogy is not a bad choice either. We'll help you figure out the battle system.
I honestly don't think you need to have played the sky trilogy before CS3 anymore than you need it before playing to Crossbell games. Like, yes there'll be a few more reappearing characters and some references, but a good part of the sky cast appears in Crossbell as well and you get the end part of Renne's story without some context. If none of that bothered you, it probably won't bother you in the rest of the cold steel series either. On the other hand... the sky trilogy is pretty amazing, especially in terms of story and characters. So I would absolutely enjoy watching you play it.
Having another playthrough is Sky on RUclips would be cool. But oooh I also love Xenoblade; I usually like that series more than Trails. The combat really isn’t complicated. It’s like Trails, the complexity is in making builds before getting into fights rather than the fights themselves.
I say play the games and post em on the channel just because you seemed to enjoy the humor in Cold Steel and Sky has funnier characters and moments. You'll love Estelle and Olivier in particular.
I’d love to see the Sky trilogy, but I’d be super down to see some Xenoblade content as well. Also, lemme just throw out a wild card. Play a fire emblem game. It’s my favorite series. Trails is second place
I’d love to see a xenoblade playthrough! I played the trilogy before I started Trails and love it! I’d say play something else and play Sky in the background because too much Trails can definitely burn you out. Either way I’ll watch whatever. I love Sky too but yeah definitely play lots of different things.
Hello there, since you seem to be liking the Trails so far, I think you should play the Sky trilogy before starting CS3. For my first playthough of the Trails games, i played the 4 Cold Steel games back to back. While i liked them this way, i replayed them later after having played the sky and the crossbell arcs, and i enjoyed them way more, since there is quite a lot of returning characters. For the Sky games, maybe you could do less videos for them, not a full playthrough. Now, you are right I think you could stop a bit before feeling burned out and play something else. I recommend the Mass Effect trilogy, the games are less long than the Trails (30/40h max for the first two games, around 60h for the third). The Ys games are great too if you want to keep playing Falcom games, and you can play them in any order (Ys VIII and Ys X are amazing).
I'd recommend doing the sky games off camera if that will get you through it faster. As much as i love that trilogy, the sooner you can get to CS3, the better. If you do go that route, I'd love to see xenoblade on the channel. That series also had a great story to it.
I was originally going to agree and then I remembered that they spoil multiple major plot points in the first chapter of CS3. I also just realized that each chapter of Cold Steel 3 is catching players up on the previous arc starting with sky and going up to the present.
I'd love videos for sky, but it's up to you. They are older and different for sure, if that doesn't fit your channel, thats fine. Would love if you post like a thoughts at the end of each game or something like that if you decide not to do them on the channel.
I’m gonna be rather selfish and say I’d definitely pick option 1 🥹 I also think it’d be great because there’s a time gap between Cold Steel 2 and 3 so playing the Sky games would let you take that time rather perfectly. It’s kind of the same way I took time since I played the Sky games then CS1-2 and then took a break to play Zero and Azure before CS3 and that whole time I was fiending for 3 and 4. Also I’d love to see some Xenoblade because that’s another one of my favorite series, especially since it’s in my top 3 right after Trails and Yakuza. But whatever you wanna do broski is what I’ll be there for 🙏
I think that, while Sky arc is very good, i think it hasnt aged well in the current day. it really is the foundation of the series as a whole and the result of playing it IN BETWEEN CS2 and CS3 is a mistake in my opinion. you ABSOLUTELY should play it at some point, but i think finishing the CS arc would be more enjoyable, for a couple reasons. mostly, breaking up the Cold Steel arc is rough; ive had a couple friends try to do so, and their response to that was universally negative, every single one who's broken up the erebonia story to play liberl has told me, after they had finished the cs arc, that they wish they had never broken the two halves up in the first place. the continuity of the arcs as a story is more important in Erebonia than in Sky imo. secondly, while the sky arc IS a considerable time investment, youve alreaady put between 150 and 175 hours into erebonia at this point and putting another roughly equal amount of time in the middle toward a story with decidedly different characters, most of whom you will only get hints at in Cs3 and barely know until CS4 detracts from the overall narrative being told in the Cold Steel Arc. not to mention that in my experiance, the second half of Erebonia is just as long or longer than the first. thirdly, some of the comments have already addressed this, but sky arc will feel mechanically lacking in the modern era. its the bare bones of the series, and you will notice it. the story telling notwithstanding, the SKy arc has aged incredibly poorly. having said all that, i still think going back to play Sky arc is worthwhile, but if i had to put the ideal insert point, this is not it. i would place that in between CS4 and Reverie. that game will DEFINETLY be made SOOOOO much better with the knowledge of the key events in sky arc.
Hard to decide. Would like seeing you play through Sky the most, but I can understand being afraid of burning out(would you do reviews like with zero/azure if playing them offscreen?). Maybe try some other Falcom offerings, like Ys or Tokyo Xanadu eX+(has some loose references to trails, but iirc nothing beyond cs2) and is a self contained story, action combat, similar but different to trails. Perhaps try The Legend of Nayuta, that doesn't seem to be connected with trails, but perhaps it is, nobody knows for sure. Something with Persona or Tales of series could also be fun. Well, this comment likely doesn't make things any easier, many good choices any way you cut it. Good luck making a decision!
I personally have played cold steel 1 through 4, reverie and started the daybreak series, sky and zero add a lot I don't feel their required. So go ahead and play sky off camera then come back
Actually, it`s okay to play the CSIII even if you haven't finished the Sky trilogy(I finished the whole CS arc even before i played in Zero and Azure). So if you really wanna start the CSIII right now it's not gonna spoil anything, except you don't know who a few characters are(the case is a bit different for the CSIV and Reverie, though. But only because there's a characters from Sky and Zero/Azure,)
Considering that the Sky Trilogy is my favorite arc in the Trails series I would love to see that on the channel; perhaps more cut down than even CS was if you think it is necessary..
Sky is the best trilogy
I wouldn't mind seeing the sky trilogy on the channel tbh.
Agreed on this, putting sky on the channel would be nice

Play Sky Offscreen and then play the FC Remake when it gets released.
