At first I didn't understand why you wanted such a big dayhike backpack, until you talked about the camera gear. Since I don't have to carry all that, I like to take a very small backpack. In regards of shirts I really love merino wool. Keeps warm in winter and cool in summer.

For shorter hikes i prefer to bring Aqua Tabs to treat water. It's also worth bringing them on longer trips as backup if the filter fails,or the water source is very poor. ✌🏼

Great list, thanks for sharing. I use a 33L Osprey daypack, a bit big for summer, but great to double as a summer overnight, and perfect for winter day hikes. I am too cheap to have two. I also love my Instinct Solar. I think you convinced me to get some bedrock sandals. +1 for a fixed blade knife, great for splitting wood. I use Moraknivs. I carry Sam splints rafting and have thought about carrying one hiking. See you outside!

Cool overview of general hiking gear you're liking. I also like to hike in sandals (when I'm not worried about snakes 😬) but I'm in love with my Earth Runners. I also bought the Patagonia shirt from your recommendation, but without the hood. It's been so nice for hot lake days and, like you said, so I don't have to constantly reapply sunscreen.

Very nice carry items! I especially like the Garmin Instinct & Benchmade knife. I forgot how great those splints are…I’ve got to get one. I carry a 3L water bladder in my day pack & for emergency hydration I have a Lifestraw. The regular Sawyer Squeeze may be a better option, though, & it really doesn’t weigh much more.

OK I got some Bedrock sandals from one of your videos and they are also basically what I am wearing all summer! I haven't done a hike in them (too buggy here) but they fit so well. I almost returned them but once I got the fit right they've been awesome.
Also, the summer hiking pants line at Athleta is so good. Their Trekkie North Joggers are incredible. I used to hike in cotton yoga pants and no longer.. I feel so much cooler and more comfortable. I'd also love to see an updated favorite hiking clothes video!

Thanks for another great video! I am in Ephesus turkey right now and I spend every single minute in my Patagonia sun hoodie! It’s indispensable on trips like this as well as canoe trips and hiking. Watching the video made me wonder if I need another one!? Also, it’s great to see someone else that wears sandals hiking. I’ve been wearing mine for 20 years all over North Africa, the Rockies, canoeing in the great lakes… I would never switch. Yes I have gotten a few cuts and scrapes over the years but the pros far outweigh the cons!

Amanda, you not only have great taste in gear, you have amazing sensibilities for a younger person, which usually only comes with many years of trial and error, LOL! 😂 I also have scoliosis (lateral) from birth and compounded by several bad car accidents. I'll be 69 in a couple of weeks and am going on my first UL backpacking overnight in the Central Cascades. I couldn't get my base weight under 10 lbs. but got it down to under 14 (down from 25). I'm trying the GG Mariposa for the first time. I sold my Gregory Deva 70L to take 3 lbs. off my pack weight. Glad to see I'm not the only one who carries a fixed blade knife! I have the Rainier Knives Fastpak EDC, only 2 oz. with a linen handle, sabre grind and micarta sheath. I fashioned it into a neck knife with paracord and a couple of fisherman's knots. Great for hiking on the trail!

And all that other gear is just almost purely useless, I bet you also look where you are going, so why you need to know your alttitude? Hiking has become cringe fest of people who has too much money and no idea what they are doing.
