Never thought much of this. The same blinking KISS sign you could get from Entertainment Earth on the cover of a black book for $6.00 and change during their New Years sale off. Having the KISS drum kit from '75 was pretty funny too. I guess they figured no one would notice. When they come back and say, " It's only a toy", my reply would be, " Then price it like one." It's more glorified packaging than valued product.
The thing I noticed was the mix of The even ZZ lightning bolts from "Hot in the Shade" timeline and the original logo with uneven as designed by Ace; same evening all 4 off them agreed to Paul's suggestion. Look at the box and compare to backside logo! But it's a really cool thing. Imagine being a kid KISS Fan today. I bought the songbook way back.
Once you got past the gorgeous box, wow, did the product turn out to be trash. $160 for GI Joe sized figures that couldn't get anywhere close to the poses that were captured in the iconic Alive II gatefold, plus a stage that looks super chintzy and a cheap speaker. SO disappointed. Other people said it before, but it bears saying again: this was a job for McFarlane Toys. KISS fans, you wanted the best...but got this instead.

I wish the new Unmasked set had Eric Carr and a stage set with Eric's double bass drum set. :) I became a KISS fan when saw the Paul Lynde show in 1976..but my favorite drummer is Eric Carr and my favorite drummer has always been named Eric be it Carr or Singer.
I agree! I'm a 70's Kiss fan since child and while I like Peter he is not my favorite drummer. I LOVED Eric Carr but upon hearing Eric Singer back from his Badlands days with Jake E Lee and the Revenge album soon to come I was hooked!

And finally, for you to bring up that issue shows that how important it is for you to find the bad in anything.
I wanted this one, but it's always been out of my price range. However, even though it has the speaker and taller figures, I found that the more affordable Smiti playset (with 3 inch cartoony figures) edges it out for me, as it has a full physical drum kit, as opposed to a photo of one (wrong kit with the bass drum facing an odd direction). The stage setup is also more fleshed out with the pyro graphics, mic stands, winged serpent, etc. (edited speeling)
I'm unimpressed. Kiss makes their coolest album gatefold photo into a toy (great idea btw. I'd rather kiss of released a model kit of the stage tho) & this is what they come up with? I'd rather just buy the box without the cheap looking toys)
For any Kiss fan..i think its great....Beatles did merchandising first to a huge extent, then Elvis and then Kiss and everyone else has followed, everyone...so don't moan about Kiss being too commercial.. They had the best rock shows and everyone copied them....
It's pretty cheap, mostly cardboard and plastic, with very little detail, they could have done and actual molded plastic 3d stage instead of just a picture on cardboard, and the stairs are just yellow plastic, not gold. Cheap, as expected with Kiss stuff.

Gene Simmons doesn't write songs or make music anymore, he just sells t-shirts and this shit! One of the most important live albums ever produced deserves a better celebration than this imo.

It's a neat thing, but the beige cheap plastic stair and risers were kind of a let down. It's like they ran out of time & budget. I'd probably repaint them myself to match the rest of the set. Otherwise, they look out of place, cheap, and an complete lack of detail.
What's with the cheesy yellow stairs and risers? Does this have the Gene Simmons stamp of approval? Is he getting his cut of the profits? The demon is going into retirement and needs the extra income.
