"you wouldn't let a couple of spoilers ruin your fun" EXACTLY !! And honestly, there are so many games I wouldn't have even played at all if someone didn't spoil it for me first. Because sometimes knowing that there's a twist that sounds cool is what it takes for me to grab my controller and see it for myself.
But usually I like my first playthroughs to be as blind as possible but if I'm three years late to a party (like I usually am) it's really on me if I get spoiled. And it really doesn't take that much restraint to just stay away from the game's tags online until after I've finished playing it lol

I'll always remember having people freak out at me for mentioning the events of Gears of War 3 on some guys upload of the final song from the ost. A whole year after it released...

Wow. It really goes back to what I said in the video. Do people really expect eternal silence until they finally decide to finally watch or play the thing?

Spoiler culture has to be the worst thing to ever happen. Imagine avoiding social media and even the internet just to avoid spoilers as people arent thinking on keeping spoiler free the web and instead openly talking about spoilers, ruining the experience for others. I almost chocked my young cousin when he almost spoiled me No Way Home. People should be more considerate and talk about spoilers after a specific time so everyone has the chance to discuss them without making anyone feeling bad about it. Also, good job with this video as its good hearing your video essays on topics that matter. 👍🏻

ima mention an example where I think spoiler dislike is justified (but not name the channel).
So the legend of heroes series is one where the story and worldbuilding is the main appeal of the series, so much that its one of those series where playing them in a proper order matters. There is a channel out there though that the main focus is to upload extended OST videos of the various songs throughout the games and that channel uses spoiler thumbnails AND spoiler gameplay. Here's where I think this channel is absolutely guilty of wronful spoiling. (also yes I already have it under don't recommend channel since a while, thankfully have avoided being spoiled directly by it)
    1. Those are MUSIC videos. There is no reason that a video that exists solely to listen to a game's soundtrack should include spoilers in its thumbnail or footage because we're only there for music. In the comments arguably sure, just don't scroll down, but spoiling the game does not serve the video's intent any purpose.
    2. A lot of the games being spoiled are not available to a western audience yet at their time of upload. Only very dedicated fans can and would go out of their way to find fan translations/patches and various means of actually engaging with the game in order to become "spoiler-safe". For everyone else, tough luck, if youtube randomly decides that because you listened to extended soundtrack of previous games you played you must want to listen to extended of these new games by this channel, you risk getting spoiled some of the most blatant spoilers even if just once before you hit the "Don't recommend".
OOOOOOOR instead you get a major 2 games in the making spoiler like me from a trailer video of a completely different game in the series I had already played in the original japanese release and had no reason to believe I would get a spoiler for a later game because the fanbase got angry at "the localizers" and their pigeon brain thought capslocking the biggest spoilers in the comments would get back at them SOMEHOW... well SPOILER alert, it didn't. It just made the day of some of the series fans worse.
Or another time because we were having a conversation based on the 7th game of the series and some random schmuck came in discussing 8th game spoilers then when I pointed out this was a bad move they got defensive "well you shouldn't be having discussions in a thread about the series!" "Yeah and the thread is agreed to be about the 7th game, not the 8th!". Which also YES, the 8th game was at the time japan exclusive.

people who go online looking up content about media and then complaining about spoilers are so fucking annoying
