Here is another reason I love RUclips. This piece was listed on the right side while I was listening to something else and caught my eye. Of course, I never heard of this fellow, but I am enjoying his music. Nice stuff! I like Dutch painting. Now I like Dutch music.
An engaging, rhythmically infectious work this, with a clever first-movement coda, an atmospheric second movement, and a tongue-in-cheek finale which alternates insouciance with a seriousness which somehow seems imposed upon it. It's quite effectively orchestrated, and for me, a more enjoyable opus than Pijper's Third Symphony.
+Aart de Kort The thing is that modern orchestras only want to play the well know rather dull-casual classical stuff to get their money, very unfortunately.
Heard it yesterday in Berlin with the Rotterdamers. No plea for further performances of this quite unknown composer, because his music is ultimately noisy and unspecific, mixed with local colour from Spain, a bit of tango, Viennese waltz and chinoiserie and without a statement. A huge orchestra, but much ado about nothing.
I would advise you listen to his piano sonata then. No filler or "chinoiserie" to be found there, just stunningly intricate modernism and compositional rigor of the highest order.

Masterpiece, hardly performed, even in The Netherlands......
