    Great use of available space Steve. Don't worry, your posted video's look just fine to me.

      And they sound fine. That said, I know how you content producers can be so OCD about stuff that many of us barely, if ever, notice. Keep up the great work!

    Excellent Steve, it’s good to see all the extra video work that has to be done to make these videos.

    Whatever details you wish you could add in your editing are icing. I've never thought your sound was echo'y or video is not good. The videos are technically very good and certainly at a level above average for home brewed YT videos done by someone with a 'normal' life. Appreciate you sharing the behind the scenes. Shows just how doable it is to fit layouts into spaces seemingly taken over by all of our family commitments.

    Wow, that's a ton of equipment, but it shows in the quality. I'm stuck using my phone and a couple desk lamps. And I hear you on the editing, I've come to dread it at times. I'd rather be building another model than sitting at my computer. Kudos to you for all the work you put in "off screen" because your layout projects are always fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your hard work.

    Interesting video! Your video quality is great. The lighting is perfect. I wouldn’t worry too much about the sound. It sounds clear and the levels are good. It’s obvious you’re working in a garage so it’s fine to me. I really appreciate the time you put into your builds and capturing it for your videos. Most of all, thanks for sharing!

    As a professional sound engineer ...the curtain on ceiling guides will be far better than insulating your garage door. Soft curtains absorb sound waves THE best. Also, a rug on the floor may not help much more after you add the curtain. Love you videos

    Thanks. I've been considering doing a channel for scale modeling/RC/"maybe" trains, etc. so my grandkids will be able to watch what I get up to in m work shop. This helps me better understand the kind of setup options that are out there.

    Steve, thank you for sharing your video tour. In the past, starting out in voiceover work that was not super critical I used Habor moving blankets and strong spring clamps or shower rod rings hanging from a PVC frame I had made. It was a reasonable way of taming my audio. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

    Very interesting How-To. You covered the items most people gloss over. Also, by following your links I found wall mounting triangle lighting stands that I did not know existed. I really like your detailed videos. Thanks for sharing with us.

    I do not know how people edit on an iPad or especially an iPhone.
    But, I can see the huge advantage to it as it makes the process portable, which in today's fast paced world can be a huge benefit.

      It is funny since now I find it awkward to edit on a laptop or desktop. I’ve gotten really fast using finger gestures and the Apple Pencil. The main thing though is that it is easier to bring everywhere than a laptop. Plus it is more durable.

      No joke. I have a lot of videos where I have like 6-8 hours of raw video for 6 mins of final video. Lots of retakes, and just recording everything so I have the parts I want in the end instead of being very deliberate about what shots I want.

    Dear Steve, great vid! Love your explanations on how you shoot the content and how you edit. Very informative! Don’t think the sound quality is distracting, nevertheless will appreciate your planned efforts. Oh, and a recommendation, if you do the sound panels on the backside of your overhead door, also go through the ‘corner,’ to either side wall, or at least a section of those walls. Taking out the corner will significantly improve the deadening. Cheerio

    That was fun seeing how you do the videos and what it takes to do your channel. I have always liked the sound on your channel some soften the sound to much and makes it hard to hear. If you are day late with video no problem I will wait. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Thanks for the behind the scenes video.. not many people show what goes on in the background and how they do it.. I am looking for some lights and I will check out the brand you mention in your info.. Thanks very much for this.
    For my videos, I use my Samsung S6 and S22 phones to make my videos and I do my editing on my PC using OpenShot video editor which is open-source and Free and has no watermarks so it suits me just great. And Yes I totally agree with you on the editing time... more time for playing trains I would love.. lol.

    Nice setup! A lapel mike might help with your audio - but generally it’s good. And I’d rather see you spend an extra day editing if you need to instead of rushing a video out in time. We can wait.

    • @StevesTrains
      @StevesTrains  5 месяцев назад

      I’ve tried lapel mikes before and it either works great or it doesn’t. Sometimes too much rustling noise against shirt, etc. also sometimes issues with pulling a cord out a little, etc. it does sound better but I have had to redo audio enough that I don’t bother much with them.

    Nice video Steve - important to have a proper workbench in this hobby besides the kitchen table! I'm curious to know if your garage is insulated & climate controlled with a hardwired electric/natural gas heater? It's no fun working hours in the garage when its freezing outside and its only 20-30°F.

    • @StevesTrains
      @StevesTrains  5 месяцев назад +1

      No climate control except i can bring out a portable heater or a fan that sprays a mist to help cool things. Yeah, it is tough when it is 110F outside!

    Hi Steve, Great video. Lot of work involved. I have a question if you don't mind. I'm going to be using a 3 ft. by 6'7" door for my n scale layout. I want to use Kato track. Can you tell me what is the maximum curve radius for that 3' width. I would sure appreciate your help. Thanks, Jim

    • @StevesTrains
      @StevesTrains  4 месяца назад +1

      I probably wouldn’t go beyond 16” just so you could have a good 1.5” between the track and edge of the layout on each side. Makes it a little safer if a train derails and falls over.

    • @railfanbyheritage1960
      @railfanbyheritage1960 4 месяца назад

      @@StevesTrains Thanks Steve for the info. Kato has a 15" radius curve does that sound about right?
