Slash, stoner, and fuzz are great rock too, but after hearing these guys and their great song "Bottle Called", my love for rockabilly was reborn. This tune, "The Perfect Suicide" is mighty great kick ass! Love it! It's great rockabilly with a heavy sound. Koffin Kats are the ultimate modern rockabilly, they totally rule!
@njlacrosse9 It's an Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow. AF75T, If I'm not mistaken. I have the same guitar, it's transparent blue finish, but the lighting makes it look purple.

why do you down the kid, the singer obviously is emulating glenn danzig and why not he is the best punk/rock/metal singer of the last thirty years! this music is psychobilly, but it obviously shares strong similarities with horror punk. most of their songs are about horror inspired things!
There is no PROPER term for that sound. You are being smug. The technique i.e. the action of pulling the string away from the neck and slapping it back into the neck is refered to as slap upright bass.
Like I said, it's great ROCKABILLY with a heavy sound. You're comparing the old rockabilly of the 50s and 60s with the rockabilly of today, and naturally you'll find a big difference. This particular song, though, tends more to the style of "psychobilly" sound. Koffin Kats are NOT psychobilly, their style is contemporary rockabilly. Psychobilly is darker, more agressive and heavily influenced by the punk style.

The sound produced by the slap upright-bass technique was never as pronounced in traditional rockabilly as it is in psychobilly.
