Saying he should end his career over one loss to WCQ who won the tournament last time and barely lost to another top 10 world player? He is still playing extremely well it just didn't go his way today. He is no FZD nowadays, he can't consistently and convincingly beat everyone like he used to, but he is still up there with the best. No need to retire.
from what I can see...even more complex. strategy was to slow down balls and play near the net, but with constant variations of tempo, depth and placement, often aiming to the elbow but through placement variations. mixing as much as possible. just playing near the net would do too little when you can see top Chinese players playing matches against each other this way - they know well how to play 'at the table' at top level
Patrick played very well, but had a lot of luck also in important situations. More to add, Ma Long doesn't seem to be at 100% fitness and speed. Still impressive!
Ma just looked tired, notice the eye bags around his eyes? Also, he wasn't able to receive well this game. Too many times he popped it up and Franz killed it.

As Malong's splendid table tennis stage set an example for many competitive table tennis players, he seems to have gotten used to it. And the clean attack drive motion lione and attack rhythm in the 3 ball sequence after the serve seems to have been detected or familliar to Patrick. In Particular, the long and short cuts were enough to shake Malong's attack line rhythm and tempo.
