What I'd have in a possible sequel is the new Ghostbusters taking on the cult of Gozer lead by a descendant of Shandor. Now that Gozer is contained in a trap, the descendant isn't so much interested in releasing and worshipping the God but rather harnessing it's power for themselves. To distract the Ghostbusters, the cult manage to unleash the trapped ghosts in the firehouse basement in New York (See Afterlife End Credits). Ray, Peter and Winston act as mentors and also run the business behind the scenes, finance, research etc with the legwork now done by the new team. Cameo of (insert popular actor/comedians) as they head a new branch of the growing GB franchise.
If we do get a sequel to Afterlife, THEY HAVE TO BRING BACK OSCAR. We never found out what happened to him after Ghostbusters 2, which is disappointing seeing as how Afterlife confirms that Peter and Dana are still an item. It'd be cool if we get a grown-up Oscar joining the new team. Also, that franchise idea with different Ghostbusters branches was actually going to the plot to the Ghostbusters Ecto Force cartoon that got shitcanned.
Didn't they do that with the animated series, The Extreme Ghostbusters, which had a whole new crew, with Egon Spangler and Jeanine, who were CEO and communications for a younger crew, with Egon backing them up with technical expertise, and, in-person backup, on occasion! I liked that show, as good as the original animated series, with it's own new universe of spooks and haunts. I felt that it straddled the gap between old and new teams, while keeping true the the spirit(see what I did there!?)of this particular franchise

Wasn't her son's father a musician who left her after getting a job offer in Europe? There's no weird circumstances with Oscar's conception that has been revealed in the movies.

I think Summerville is a play on words for Sumerian-ville. A couple of issues I had with the movie (still loved the movie, mind you). 1. Ghost traps don't seem to need an energy source to maintain their portable containment field (see Gary having to hook up a bus battery to open it)? When the power was cut to the containment unit, it released all of the ghosts it contained. Not sure this makes sense. 2. What was the Cuneiform map? It's mentioned once, Gary asks to keep it (which he's allowed to do), and we never hear of it again. Does the existence of this map also mean that the temple in Shandor Mine already there from thousands of years before, indicating ancient Sumerians traveled the seas and found the Americas? And is that how Shandor found this mine? Is this where Shandor began his journey to be a Gozerian? Why is Shandor's body in this mine versus being in NYC? 3. Ivo Shandor is a god by canon, a Level 7 Remnant. I would like there to be a reason for his wanting to be human again -- or such a weak undead.
The essence of the finale ghostbusting climax special Fx was dominated and almost rendered insignificant just by the emotional presence of Harold as it converged into both the reel & real world in the minds of the captivated audience. 4:23 Technically Gozer got busted TWICE, if you add the 2009 Ghostbusters game into the timeline, as the game is set in 1991 and Afterlife is in 2021, approximately 30 years apart. The game theorizes that the reason why Gozer as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, who returns in the game, was not as strong as back during the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984 is because Shandor's mandala being activated during the game's events gave power to the leftover psychokinetic energy that Gozer hadn't absorbed yet, and after being thoroughly defeated, Gozer was sent back to the dimension it came from.
Why they didn't make a movie instead back then based on that script surprises me, especially as that was the last great chance to have Harold Ramis in it..
I enjoyed the film with my son and daughter. In the 1980's, I tried to attend as a standby audience member for a 'Twin's" Saturday Night Live. I wasn't able to get in. A NBC staff member, felt bad for me, that I was 2nd person on standby line. She gave me piece of paper for where the after show cast party would be. At the cast party, I met Danny Devito, Rhea Pearlman, and Stripes/Ghost Buster's star: Harold Ramis (Egon)
I can bet they’ll do a sequel and develop all of them more. My little guy and I loved this movie. He’s been begging to see it again. I preordered it, also. We can’t wait to see it again
Just wanted to point out that it's heavily implied Peter and Dana are married, because they have matching gold wedding bands on. Also, the definite hint towards the setup for the sequel is the containment unit in the basement, because the alarm was sounding and the light was flashing red. Last time that happened was when Walter Peck shut down the containment grid and ended up blowing a hole through the roof of the firehouse.
A worthy sequel...definitely a sequel...no question and nothing can even come close to the first, but I left the movie pleasantly surprised with it...well done...
Here's my treatment for GBIV: We open on a side street in Tokyo, sometime in the late evening. It's overcast & drizzly but the sunset is casting its light on the underside of the clouds. Small shops & stalls are mostly closed or closing & very few pedestrians are about. A man in a business suit is hurrying down the street & is approached by a woman wearing a medical mask with her hands behind her back. "Do you think I'm attractive?," she asks the businessman. (If you know your Japanese ghosts, you probably know where this is going.) The man looks her up & down with a leer & responds affirmatively. The woman takes her hands from behind her back & removes her mask, revealing both that she has a large pair of scissors in one hand and, underneath the mask, her cheeks are ripped open from ear to ear in a ghastly grin. Raising the scissors, the woman asks, "Am I still attractive?" As she begins to swing the scissors at the man's face, we hear a proton pack charging up... Plan fails. Gozer banishes GB team to "somewhere you'll never interfere again." Cut. Print. Roll credits. Midcredit scene of apocalyptic aftermath of Gozer's rampage, including some of their fellow gods. Aftercredits scene setting up prequel wherein they battle a certain Carpathian necromancer using a combination of science & magic.
I don't understand the reasoning for Egon not having a relationship with his family. If his daughter is supposed to be similar age to the actress who played her, she would've been born before the first movie. Egon didn't go off on his own until long after the 2nd movie. And how did he have all those pictures of her?
Maybe Egon did had a daughter in the Mid or Late 80s Probably, He probably didn't mention about it because of His personal problems with Ghost probably Who knows 🤷, We Still Don't know Who Egon Wife or girlfriend when he had His Kid Yet though 🤔 Ghostbusters afterlife is still a great Sequel

Are they going to empty all those traps in a containment unit at some point? Anyway, I’m glad to see that Ray, Peter, and Winston haven’t lost a step. Also, for future villains, let’s look at the animated series for inspiration. The Sandman. Or maybe Samhain?

@@mje6444 No, that wasn't what I meant. What I meant was that Jason's previous five films (2011's "Young Adult", 2013's "Labor Day", 2014's "Men, Women and Children", and 2018's "Tully" and "The Front Runner") all underperformed commercially, and "Afterlife" looks set to continue his "losing streak", considering what the film's up against (though not for lack of trying), as box office totals don't tell the whole story. In addition to marketing, distribution and advertising costs (which should be considered), extra costs incurred to move the film away from the worst months of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic (the idiomatic "elephant in the room") should also be taken into account, plus the fact that theaters get roughly half of the profits from ticket sales, with the studio and/or distributor getting the other half. Given "Afterlife" 's $75 million PRODUCTION budget, a hypothetical advertising budget of around $35-$50 million would put the film's total cost at around $110-$125 million, meaning that "Afterlife" would have to gross at least $220-$250 million at the worldwide box office to break even and become a commercial success.
@@andrewbloom7637 I could care less about commercial success. My 7 y/o reminded me of myself when i watched the first one many years ago. That's a success in my mind.
So where does the events from the animated series, Extreme Ghostbusters come in with this Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie? In Extreme Ghostbusters, there is also a young girl as a Ghostbuster. The girl in Extreme Ghostbusters is a student in a class that Egon Spenser teaches so it seems Extreme Ghostbusters is after Ghostbusters 2 and before Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Great film but easy could add an extra hour to fit the Gozar part in. The last bit was a bit meh focusing more on egon than the end of the world but it's still great. Woukd have been nice to see the ghosts spread out a little further. This was a bit overlooked. I cried so it still worked lol.
I’m pretty sure the countdown pertain to the layer between the ghost realm and our realm coming closer, so the ghosts will be showing up more like they did 30 years ago.
There are others gods and legends that could be the focus of future ghost buster movies. Like ragnarok with hel or the legend of king Arthur waiting for England's end to rise and save it. There is plenty of storys around the world of the end the all could be in Egon's books that can be future movies.
I honestly don’t think this movie needs a sequel. While it left a lot of plot points open for a sequel, it had the most perfect ending I’ve ever seen in a movie to date.
As a Ghostbusters fan and just watching the new movie last night.. this video served me no purpose. I was actually thinking there might be something I missed .. nooope. The new movie was good.. not great.
Winston was supposed to be in the team from the very beginning in the first movie as it was shown in the storyboard. I wonder why they change the setup...
I thought they wanted an outsider to basically be like the normal guy (like the viewers) contrasted against the scientists, so made him a hire rather than just another scientist?
Never rate Rotten tomato scores as they are out to nitpick on everything. This was a Egon movie. The man who sacrificed everything to protect and prepare those he cares and loves. It makes me wonder though how much influence Gozer had on the whole ghost reappearance spectrum. Could Vigo have been one of it's disciples? I can see the Summerville ghostbusters happening as a film or even a series but a new team of New York one I recommend as a series. Maybe even fix what the reboot buggered up and have an all female team but done properly this time.

@@mje6444 You've got a kid? Boy or girl?
I kept waiting for Gozer to take another funny form, but overall the movie was pretty good.
I’m pretty sure the countdown pertain to the layer between the ghost realm and our realm coming closer, so the ghosts will be showing up more like they did 30 years ago.
0:01 awww I thought he was going to throw in a Hamilton reference there :(
The final part moves my tears.
Who ever wrote this definitely watch DBZ Cell Saga. It was awesome
All it needed was Rick Moranis, hopefully in the next one.
Loved loved LOVED this movie!
So is the Video game now considered Non canon even though they said it was a true sequel? What the fuck man?
I like to think that if a sequel does happen, Peter and Dana return and turns out they had a child of there own who joins the new team.
Far out give us a chance to go watch a movie before the internet ruins it . This movie is months away from release in Australia
you don't have to watch these videos....
@@johnnyjetson5477 then why are you whining?
@@johnnyjetson5477 Why don't i have anything better to do? you're the one crying about spoilers on videos you aren't forced to watch hahahahah
Piracy lol
Are you expecting people to not talk about the movie for months?
There are others gods and legends that could be the focus of future ghost buster movies. Like ragnarok with hel or the legend of king Arthur waiting for England's end to rise and save it. There is plenty of storys around the world of the end the all could be in Egon's books that can be future movies.
If you think about it… they didn’t catch Viggo. They banished him as well.
Janine and Winston?! Did I miss a post credits?? Dammit
Definitely a Great Sequel I literally just watched the movie Today
I love this movie it was really awesome
We love to hear that!
@@Looper ooh awesome :)
Oh yea 😎 a sequel will be awesome
This movie was really good!
Just saw it yesterday & it was great!!! Go see at Regal's PRX theatre it was well worth it!!!
I honestly don’t think this movie needs a sequel. While it left a lot of plot points open for a sequel, it had the most perfect ending I’ve ever seen in a movie to date.
I want to see this movie even more now
who lives who dies who tells our story
As of 2/14/22. RIP Ivan Reitman.
Brilliant movie .
Loved this movie
As a Ghostbusters fan and just watching the new movie last night.. this video served me no purpose. I was actually thinking there might be something I missed .. nooope. The new movie was good.. not great.
Very cool
Pretty sure the Spenglers came from the Chicago area, not NYC, since their car had Illinois plates.
Good video Looper but you completely left Lucky out.
Winston was supposed to be in the team from the very beginning in the first movie as it was shown in the storyboard. I wonder why they change the setup...
I thought they wanted an outsider to basically be like the normal guy (like the viewers) contrasted against the scientists, so made him a hire rather than just another scientist?
originally he was to be played by Eddie Murphy. When Eddie ended up doing Beverly hills cop, they changed his role
There is nothing to speculate between Dana and Peter, they are both wearing wedding rings indicating that they got married to each other.
Is this head cannon?
How did eegons ghost not get sucked into the traps??? He was right there!!!
I just watched the movie and it looked like the obscured date was 2023. I could be wrong but it looked like 2023.
Did anyone else feel they flung in ‘the real ghostbusters’ aspects to this film too?
Absolutely! The ghost with the large eye was from the show and a few nods.
not as much as GB2 did.
movies not even out. why you talking about the ending?
Never rate Rotten tomato scores as they are out to nitpick on everything. This was a Egon movie. The man who sacrificed everything to protect and prepare those he cares and loves. It makes me wonder though how much influence Gozer had on the whole ghost reappearance spectrum. Could Vigo have been one of it's disciples? I can see the Summerville ghostbusters happening as a film or even a series but a new team of New York one I recommend as a series. Maybe even fix what the reboot buggered up and have an all female team but done properly this time.
exactly! or the critics. I read roger eberts critic of it, and its clear he wasnt a fan. All the stuff he nitpicked, the real fans enjoyed. Its been 30 years, you have to rehash some jokes
Did the ending need explaining?
She’s so adorable
What I want to know - Who was Phoebe Spengler's Grandma? It should have been Meme
I loved the movie!
Probably a series
easy i can explain it in one word "garbage"
