  • People often ask, "Should I buy PSA 9 or 10 cards?" and the response often depends on how much you can afford, and what you plan to do with the card after you purchase it.
Are you holding it as a long term sports card investment, or is this something you intend to flip immediately? Is this something for your personal collection, or are you buying it because you think someone else will want it someday.

Grading is a funny thing. I like getting cards graded but I know that it could be a 9 or another person the very next day could have graded it a 8.5 - 9.5 or even 10. I just looked at my Boggs and Sandberg RCs in PSA 9 - they look like 9s. But I have PSA 10s that look like 9s so you never know, lol. I don't mind buying 9s at all. The price comparison is huge even if cards are hard to tell by eyesight alone which is a 9 or a 10. I guess it depends on what you're buying them for as well. Thanks Dave!

Agreed, until AI comes around that’s indisputable, it will always be subjective, which means differing opinions on grades. Not always, but sometimes. But it makes blind reveals more exciting! Haha

Something about pulling your own card but i do believe its cheaper and easier to buy a graded version. Honestly if im investing as opposed to collecting the grade wont matter as much but price often determines the grade i buy. Lol collecting on a budget makes for one making smart collecting decisions

Yeah, getting a card you pulled graded with a high grade is pretty awesome. But getting a 9 is still cool cuz it’s your card. And if it’s a childhood card you loved, the grade don’t matter!

I've never really bought into the whole "grading" scheme... I need to pay someone to give an opinion of something that I purchased randomly at a retailer??? Why? ... I'm a collector! I collect what I like and just have fun doing it. 🤔

That’s a great attitude to have, for sure! The only issue comes in if/when you want to sell those cards. Grading removed a lot of friction, and it makes it easier for your family to sell your stuff if you die. Thank you for watching and commenting, David!
