Thanks for a great recap! Super fun to relive that again :) A few small corrections though: - None of the alien animatronics came from the movie. Film FX hardware can’t hold up to theme park cycle times, so every alien in the ride was custom-made for the ride. We used the *designs* form the film for two aliens (Worm Guys in break room, and @&%# and Bob in the immigration room), but even those were just referenced from the film designs, they were all new sculpts and skins and new robot engineering. Fun fact: FX guru Neville Page designed about half of the aliens in the ride, as well as the vehicles and guns (he is now famous for Avatar, Tron: Legacy, Cloverfield, etc. - we got to bask in his amazing talent before he got super famous LOL) - Endings weren’t changed due to guest testing. We had settled on the “low/medium/high” ending scheme pretty early, which manifests as three scenic endings (coach/tailor/blank hallway), but multiple (9-12 for variety) Will Smith video clips comparing the two average vehicle scores. What changed after testing was the *score amount* required to get to the two highest tiers; it was originally a lot more difficult LOL. Fun fact: the game computer takes into account “empty seats” when calculating vehicle average (by seeing if the zappers have been used), so a single rider in an empty vehicle can still “beat” the other vehicle, and reach “Galaxy Defender”. - There were actually *more* concepts for the framing device other than the Orlando Airport, another was the Tropicana Orange Juice Factory Tour (because Florida, and because Tropicana is a Seagram’s brand, who owned the park at the time). Thanks again for a really awesome and well-made recap!
My day has been made to have the CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF THE ACTUAL RIDE leave a comment! Thank you Dave for clearing up some things and for helping create one of my favorite attractions at the park! I never knew about the Tropicana concept, that would have been something else, bet everything would have smelled like oranges in the area if it did happen 😂
My father is Timothy Bernardi who was the document control coordinator of this ride. He not only worked on the attraction but also helped co-write "The Universe and You" theme with David Cobb, in fact they are still friends with each other today. He actually used to send me pictures and videos of work site and building process. My father would later go on to do construction work on THE MUMMY as well. SOME FUN FACTS: - One of the original names was "Men In Black: Galaxy Defender". This made more sense namely because in the ride the aliens aren't really "ATTACKING", They are fleeing. I think Alien attack had more appeal though. - David Cobb Actually has an Animated cameo in the tutorial video before the loading queue - At the end of the ride you weren't originally going to end up in The Universe and You. In the BETA the ride was going end up, Strangely enough, At a Tropicana Factory (Florida what are you gonna do). - In the original Stephen King ride concept, there was going to a point where there was a fake exit scene. This concept would later be used in The Mummy.
@FLORIDA LIFE as we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls sometime this year. Thank you for your suggestion.
Former Agent L here. I worked at MIB from March 2001 to Sept 2003. One of the best jobs i ever had. Also got sent to E.T.,Barney/Fievel,BeetleJuice,Horror and Makeup among other attactions. I really loved working at Universal Orlando.
@ Scrambled 59 we have plans to cover all the variations of Snow White's Scary Adventures but it will take sometime as it would be a much longer video than what we usually do.
One of the best themed attractions at the the park in my opinion, it does a great job setting the story. I still remember the first time I went on and my jaw hit the floor after the The Universe and You ended and the elevator doors opened.
Thanks, again, for this excellent episode! Loved the ride system of MIB, the little duels against the other group and the fact that there are no clear targets as in all other interactive rides. One of my favorite interactive dark rides! :)
I don't people realize how big the building is because of where its located and how well the building is hidden. I suggest to take a look at the park from Google Maps, it takes up a large amount of space.
I think once MiB: Alien Attack opened, the lineup of Universal was the best it ever could be. A great balance of ride systems, narratives and varying degrees of thrills. Another great video for an equally impressive attraction - hope it sticks around for a long time to come.
That place was amazing. I've been on that ride 3 times last month and loved it. I bought myself a neuralyzer and I have to say it was one of the best attractions I've ever been. MIB is my one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
I was an MIB opening crew member. While the rest of the video seems factually accurate We were NOT encouraged to take breaks in public. Good job though on the video.
All depends if Universal wants to wait first to see how the new movie fairs in box office returns. They were going to re-theme the Mummy ride but bravely ran away from the idea after the new film sucked.
I hope that MIB gets a little restoration in time for the new movie coming out this summer. And I Universal should advertise this attraction more often, there’s no other attraction on Earth where I can zap other rider’s vehicles.😎 And I don’t know of a knockoff attraction.😁😎
I held my breath hoping it'd be the "rewind time" clip... and when it was I burst into tears from laughing!! the 16:03 "TAKE 'EM OUT. THEY'RE DISGUSTING." also just absolutely killed me. I loved seeing the footage of the alien sculpts being worked on!
Mann do I remember when I went to Universal in 2001 everything was so different than it is now. The studios were all live action shows and there weren't even half as many attractions as today. I remember T2 was the coolest shit at the time. I also remember going the year The Mummy ride opened and that was dope AF.
Great video!! I love this ride sadly I was never with people who are good on this ride. So I never got the last ending. I loved your tips of becoming apart of the mib lol
Has Anyone Seen Owen Grady? I only got the ending where the alien is talking about what I could be doing better lol I never got the alien making the suit
Alright Rookies, fellow expert here, I’ve got some additional tips for you to become the best of the best! 😎 1)There’s an addional video that can help you improve your scores, it’s on a channel called USFADDICTS 2) When the ride has a short wait time, you can reride over and over without exiting to the gift shop. When you walk up the stairs, instead of continuing forward to the door, turn around to the opposite direction and there will be the child swap entrance. Go through the child swap and you’ll approach the riders station again. The team members usually give you the go ahead and put you in the remaining Express queue 😎 It is usually allowed unless there is Mardi Gras or 1 hour prior to park closing :) 3) aim for 2nd and 3rd Story Windows. If you’re on the inside track during the Training Room segment right before the Crash Landing the ones straight ahead should give you the most points 😎 even when the aliens haven’t shown up yet there are sensors the size of a dime on different windows that you can zap over and over for lots of points and glass breaking sound effects. 4) Aim for the Exhaust Port. If you don’t have one in front of you I’d recommend going for green eyes on posters, parking meters, and store fronts. Occasionally you can also turn around and zap your own Exhaust Port. :) 5) Hit the red button to activate the Subatomic thermal nuclear disruptor to defeat The Big Bug. 6) during the ambush knock down as many bugs as possible by aiming for the barrels of their extraterrestrial weapons. On some of those aliens the sensors are on the the forehead near the eyes. A sensor in the ride is usually marked by small circles. 7) after the ambush ignore the chess players and go for the intimidating green eyes in the bushes. 8) I forgot to mention this one but it’s covered in that other video I mentioned. After the first spin there will be a giant squid alien with one eye, aim for the barrels (inside) of it’s weapons. For this one I usually go for the one on the right tentacle. The video will cover the locations of the sensors on this guy, because it can be a little bit tricky. With these tips you should be able to become a Galaxy Defender! 😎
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges sometime this year. Thank you for the suggestion Dillustrator.
I really really want to see a video on one of my favorite childhood rides that I only got to ride 3 times the year before it closed. Please look at The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbers!
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter sometime this year. Thank you for the suggestion Prentis.
You are spot-on the creative minds behind the creating and construction of Theme Park rides. Keep up the great work. BTW - I share all of your vids via Twitter in hopes you get more subscribers.
Thank you for taking my suggestion for the MIB video it was awesome ! I love this channel and the content on it! Keep up the good work Theme Park History! My next suggestion would be Poseidon’s furry, the Incredible Hulk, Harry Potter and the forbidden journey, or Dueling Dragons. Thank you again !
I agree, when doing research and watching recent footage some of the animatronics weren't functioning at all. Hope it gets some TLC by the time the new movie comes out.
Bonus tips: 1) Shoot *your* vehicle and not their vehicle. You get the same points and it makes sure the enemy bugs can't target you down. 2) *Hold down the red button*. As long as you're holding it down when you get under the bug, it'll count you as pressing it on time. If everyone does it, they all get the bonus, and your car's score average will go up!
A family friend while I was growing up was an electrical engineer for MIB at USO, Jurassic Park at IOA, as well as a manager for the opening for USJ. I was lucky enough to go on a foot tour with him through MIB when not in operation, was a highlight of my life. He was able to show me how so many things I could not believe. Also was able to learn what to shoot to always get that max score!
I’m watching all your videos again, and remembering how much you made me love theme parks! I wish you were still making videos every month, what happened? You’re the best though!!!
Got recommended your video since my uncle and I are going to the parks soon for his first time. This was such a well done video that was entertaining and informative! Just wanted to say, "well done!"
This is a great series with some very interesting information! I have a number of suggestions, but to start I was hoping at some point you could cover The Haunted Mansion and/or Rock 'n Roller Coaster.
I remember riding this years ago, probably almost 10-13 years ago. I absolutely loved it. Was a huge boat of fun to have a friendly competition with my mom and her friend that was with us on the trip. I will never forget this ride. I loved being able to be a part of one of my favorite movies of that era. It’s a shame that Universal has shut down every good ride they had (Jaws, MIB, B2TF) but they will always live on in our memories. I remember when B2TF the ride closed in Hollywood, I was a little bit sad, but thankfully I got to ride it one of the last times in 2008 before they closed it in Orlando. I rode this ride actually right before I rode the B2TF ride. Loved both very much.
We can the cover the Man in Black from Westworld whenever he gets his own ride. With the way he does things, it should be pretty soon. But for real, yes Dutcher we can cover Men In Black: Alien Attack, thanks for the suggestion.
“We are the best kept secret in the universe. Our mission, is to monitor extra-terrestrial activity on Earth. We are your best, last and only, line of defense. We work in secret, we exist in shadow.” “And we dress in black.”
The original concept for the opening of the video was to include that quote with this video -> ruclips.net/video/gaDmzbWoflk/видео.html but we worried the video would get flagged for copyright.
Thank you Prodeucer Posts! We didn't know how well the initiation wouldn't go over well but seems everybody really likes it. Also F&F deserves all the shade.
Great video! It was never one of my personal favourites, but really interesting to delve into the behind the scenes making of. Would you consider a video about the history of Toy Story Midway Mania?
probably the best shooter ride in the world besides animayhem. definitely one of my favorite rides and probably the most pure fun ride to go on at universal!
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering The Wizarding World of Harry Potter sometime this year. Thank you for your suggestion What about that Movie.
Honestly that's the way to do it these days. Even when my family went on single rider we would somehow all end up in the same vehicle. You can on in less than 5 minutes!
That F&F burn was the best omg But all the advice he has at the end is great and helps with getting that high score. Multiple people in the same ride vehicle can get that bonus though if you press and hold the red button when Zed tells you to.
nice, even covered the cartoon as well (which is a superior successor than all the sequels we got, thank you very much) I recommend the Dueling Dragons ride, I miss that glorious roller coaster every day :(
Thanks for a great recap! Super fun to relive that again :)
A few small corrections though:

I mentioned the Tropicana Thing in my comment too. Side note Tim Said Hi.
Page also ended up being one of the main judges for face off js
I know you probably won't read this but I think u should do more busch gardens rides such as cheetah hunt or shekrai
This and the Harry Potter Escape From Gringotts were my favorite rides at Universal.

So cool!!!!!!!!
Interesting; i think its more fitting for the mummy anyway as it sets up for the biggest drop
Bruh that Fast and Furious diss was the best😂😂😂
It deserves it! People want me to make a video about the attraction but it would be nothing but me bashing it for a good 10 minutes.
Theme Park History DO IT!!! it would be the best!!😂
I think you gave me an idea 🤔
DO IT AND BASH JIMMY FALLON TOO!
@@DCHenny316 whyy, Jimmy Fallon is good!
That F&F burn was so funny. Oh my goodness I’m dying!!😂😂😂
THAT RIDE DESERVES IT.
The second I heard it was going to be a clone of Hollywood(My work place), I started laughing like crazy.
Mike Munnis he was talking about f&f
Please do Dudley do-right's ripsaw falls!!!
Bro I hope he does do it
YES! That was one of the best rides at the park!
I actually put in that comment! That’s why you saw rip saw falls in the 2019 trailer
Yeah he should do it
@FLORIDA LIFE as we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls sometime this year. Thank you for your suggestion.

The rewind diss!
Fantastic video
Thanks Metal Gear Moogle! I don't think anyone would expect the rewind but it worked so well with the story we were telling.
-After seeing a bright light during the video:
"you should do a theme park history of Men in Black: Alien Attack!"
I agree
2:36 "Good God that's what he's doing these days?"
Me in 2023: "Oh it gets worse."
You should do Snow White's scary adventures at several of the Disney parks
Scrambled 59 YESSSS I RECOMMENDED THAT TOO🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
@ Scrambled 59 we have plans to cover all the variations of Snow White's Scary Adventures but it will take sometime as it would be a much longer video than what we usually do.
@@ThemeParkHistory Yes you are doing Snow White's Scar oh wait I will hold on so you can get all of the right information.
@@ThemeParkHistory do Hollywood rip ride rockit
That clapback towards the Fast and Furious ride tho!
I've been waiting for someone to cover this ride for what feels like forever. This video just made my week, dude!
Immersive theming before, during and after the ride. Immigration tour is one of my favorite experiences at Universal Orlando.
One of the best themed attractions at the the park in my opinion, it does a great job setting the story. I still remember the first time I went on and my jaw hit the floor after the The Universe and You ended and the elevator doors opened.
The best thing about "The Men in Black" franchise is the original song and music video that came out after the release of the 1997 film.
Here We Go. The great Theme Park History is back. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The best.
Michael I second this
Thank you Michael! Here's to a great 2019!
Thanks, again, for this excellent episode!
Loved the ride system of MIB, the little duels against the other group and the fact that there are no clear targets as in all other interactive rides. One of my favorite interactive dark rides! :)
Just imagine exploring the show building for this attraction.
I don't people realize how big the building is because of where its located and how well the building is hidden. I suggest to take a look at the park from Google Maps, it takes up a large amount of space.
I have been waiting for a video for this ride for a long time
First request for the attraction came in about 9 months ago! I had to get permission from my boss to make this video first.
THE BEST CHANNEL EVEEEEEEEER!!!!!
Thank you so much Vini, appreciate the kind words! We wouldn't be where we are without the support of people like yourself!
Theme Park History I Thank you for creating this wonderful channel, keep doing these videos please. #theme1k

I wouldn't mind seeing them update the videos with the new cast, some of the animatronics need a bit TLC too.

No problem Michael! It's a rush of nostalgia whenever we find them, bring back good memories.

Has Anyone Seen Owen Grady? I only got the ending where the alien is talking about what I could be doing better lol I never got the alien making the suit
Alright Rookies, fellow expert here, I’ve got some additional tips for you to become the best of the best! 😎
1)There’s an addional video that can help you improve your scores, it’s on a channel called USFADDICTS
2) When the ride has a short wait time, you can reride over and over without exiting to the gift shop. When you walk up the stairs, instead of continuing forward to the door, turn around to the opposite direction and there will be the child swap entrance. Go through the child swap and you’ll approach the riders station again. The team members usually give you the go ahead and put you in the remaining Express queue 😎 It is usually allowed unless there is Mardi Gras or 1 hour prior to park closing :)
3) aim for 2nd and 3rd Story Windows.
5) Hit the red button to activate the Subatomic thermal nuclear disruptor to defeat The Big Bug.
If you score super high, even if everyone else in your carriage is bad, you can solo carry to the best possible ending.
Please do a video about Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges sometime this year. Thank you for the suggestion Dillustrator.

Bonus tips:
1) Shoot *your* vehicle and not their vehicle. You get the same points and it makes sure the enemy bugs can't target you down.
2) *Hold down the red button*. As long as you're holding it down when you get under the bug, it'll count you as pressing it on time. If everyone does it, they all get the bonus, and your car's score average will go up!

Your channel is a blessing bro, keep it up
Thank you Carlos! Appreciate the blessing 🙏🙏🙏
You make the best videos ever man, very entertaining as always. Also, love the Shade thrown at F&F made me laugh lol
Love the Hint to fast and furious!!😂😂
Y’all should do splash mountain next
Splash Mountain has been added to the list, thank you for the suggestion Lagtastic C0W
this is the best channel on youtube
Thank you Ian! That is some high praise and we appreciate the kind words!
This was such an amazingly fun and creative video! I loved it! Great work!
Thank you shyidol! Was a bit nervous about this video as we broke away from our usual format but it seems to have worked out for the best!
Could you do Knott's Berry Farm's Kingdom of the Dinosaurs? It was one of my favorites.
Holy shit I loved this ride when I was a kid and haven't ridden it in 10+ years. Your video brought back a lot of awesome memories. Thank you.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we'll be covering Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls sometime this year, thank you for the suggestion Natasha.
@@ThemeParkHistory Pls do hulk
Fantastic video!
The initiation idea was great and THE SHADE TO CHRIS AND F&F HAD ME ON THE FLOOR💀💀
Thank you Prodeucer Posts! We didn't know how well the initiation wouldn't go over well but seems everybody really likes it. Also F&F deserves all the shade.
Just got max score on this for the first time last sunday. My favorite ride by far, most re-rideable for sure.
Great video! It was never one of my personal favourites, but really interesting to delve into the behind the scenes making of. Would you consider a video about the history of Toy Story Midway Mania?
You must be located in the Orlando Area! I love your history on my favorite rides! Hope to see you out sometime!
Sweet. Been waiting for you’re first video of 2019.
Thanks Vinny! Expect a new video every two weeks. If something comes up that causes a delay we will make sure to make a post about it!
Great video. Hands down my favorite attraction in the park. Also, that jab at Fast and Furious lmao 😂👌
probably the best shooter ride in the world besides animayhem. definitely one of my favorite rides and probably the most pure fun ride to go on at universal!
History of wizarding world of Harry Potter? (Harry Potter and the forbidden journey) Thanks.
As we mentioned in our Year Two trailer, we will be covering The Wizarding World of Harry Potter sometime this year. Thank you for your suggestion What about that Movie.
I love your editing so much!!!
Really love this ride honestly. Its the perfect blend of video game and attraction. Single rider only tho
Honestly that's the way to do it these days. Even when my family went on single rider we would somehow all end up in the same vehicle. You can on in less than 5 minutes!
The regular pre show is just too long for its own good and the single rider line usually make the wait almost 0.
I would suggest to first timers to do the preshow once just to see what its about and then moving forward to just the single riders line.
Still waiting for that Knott's Berry Farm's Kingdom of the Dinosaurs video lol. Keep up the great work!
That F&F burn was the best omg
But all the advice he has at the end is great and helps with getting that high score. Multiple people in the same ride vehicle can get that bonus though if you press and hold the red button when Zed tells you to.
nice, even covered the cartoon as well (which is a superior successor than all the sequels we got, thank you very much)
I recommend the Dueling Dragons ride, I miss that glorious roller coaster every day :(
