This was a shock for MANY watchers at the time. Many golfers were calling the rule on themselves. It's just that Dustin Johnson's enforcement was really televised and the most unfortunate.

@@BirdieBiographies That my friend is a very good question. When studying sensational sport figures they all have their peaks. They don’t equally last. Golf greats like Jordan Speith, or Rory, or Camron, or add plenty to the list, looked like they would dominate for years and then it just doesn’t happen, they suddenly ebb. Someone else rises, but more often the previous dominant just can’t keep playing at such a sustained high performance. Tiger Woods is incredible for his sustained performance FOR YEARS and then the ability to comeback, but he could not keep momentum. Yet he is capable of hitting great shots. In his case, he has physical challenges. So, it can be age and injury. Injury can occur because of too MUCH play. But that doesn’t explain the young Jordans, Rorys, Jason Day, Camrons, on and on. It is likely more staying at a mental peak and skill peak simultaneously can’t be done; especially week, after week, after week. That likely varies with each player. For myself - LOL - I once took two years off from ⛳️ golf. Then my brother came out to play golf, with me. I did,Okay and the next week I won our faculty tournament (a field of just over 60). Only tournament I have ever won in golf and it was after a sustained break from the game. Then again, I wasn’t playing anything close PGA, but some players who competed played all the time. Dustin Johnson is a fantastic player with ups and downs in his career. Andy it's better loosing a tournament with a round of 82 than with missing puts from 3 feet.... Johnson maybe misses a cut with 80s rounds, but two weeks later he wins the masters. And so there is no blame for him, he is one of the best!
