welcome back JQ!!!! i love hum and failure, they are mega under rated, that whole album "you'd prefer an astronaut" is one of my favorite album start to finish. i knew you wouldnt be away from your channel for too long, nothing can stop the power of music!!!
Props for the failure nods! Thought I was crazy when you played the harmonics from Solaris but then you busted out sgt politeness! Love that band so much.
a little tip on the seargent politeness riff, when you kick in the distortion play a whole A position bar chord over the low power chord (instead of just the 9), effectively adding the 5 and major 7
It would be interesting to compare them, but to my ear, they sound pretty similar. Some Phase 3s actually have Phase 4 pickups in them. Phase 3 pickups have semi transparent bobbins, you can see the coils. Phase 4 pickups are completely cream colored.
It is sad that it's almost impossible to find one of these in Spain xD there are some Eastwood reissues that seem to be very nice though. I think they only reissued the Hi Flyer though.
Hey, glad to see you again on RUclips and that you present us with such attractive new guitars! I have two questions for you. 1- Where do you find and buy these fabulous guitars, here in France it always seems complicated to me to find this kind of rare gem! 2- What kind of breakdown does your Sansamp Classic have and where do you get them repaired? Mine seems to have a fault in the buffer, I changed a transistor which was dead but my problem is not resolved. To put it simply, when my pedal is not activated but the clean signal from my guitar passes through, my sound is lower and degraded like more "lean", less rounded and less warm on the amp. The worst part is since it's connected to my sound card, you can hear the problem even more with a sound that crackles and the audio curve is asymmetrical. Thank you for your feedback on the subject and good luck.
@@DaveWireI’ve had these issues as well. I have two SansAmp’s, one is a 1991 original model and the other is a 1997 Classic. Both eventually failed with the same issue you describe. I had to send them directly to Tech 21 for repair but it took months and was very expensive. From what i understand the issue is usually caused by a faulty FET transistor on the input board which related to the buffer. I see you mentioned that you have replaced it already. The next option is probably to replace the entire input board. Unfortunately I’m not sure where you can source that part outside of Tech 21 themselves. Hope this helps!
@@wastewoodrockers5526 thank you very much dude, I will talk to the technician to whom I took the pedal because he was going to contact tech 21 also that might help him. He replaced a transistor that was dead but the problem was not resolved, too weird!
ive had many of univox. the high flyers, the LP special clone, ive even had some original designs from the late 70's with giant plastic rocker switches and proprietary trem systems. too bad they are all on life support or if not in land fills, they were never especially sought after before 15-20 years ago you could get a high flyer for $40 dollars, now days people have figured out curt played these often especially in the early days. i prefer the black tux "vandalism" strat that i believe was Japanese.
Guess what JQ! I just bought a Japanese 1993 sonic blue mustang off of reverb and it’s already modded to skystang 3 specs. I was wondering if you know how many were made at the Fujigen factory in ‘93 because I want to know how rare it is, thanks.

WAKE UP EVERYONE THE LEGEND HIMSELF JQ HAS POSTED!!!!! I’m a huge fan!!!!
I also forgot to mention I’m getting a white Univox just like that and do you have any tips of what I should do to get Nirvana accurate tones?
Wow feels weird to be this early
I'm glad you're back! Your rig sounds great! Further proof that the tone is in the hands! ;) P.S: Did you notice the low-end rumble?
Thanks! The low end rumble seems to come from the HSB preset on the IR pack
Awesome to hear! Quick question tho, is there a big difference between the phase 4 pickups and the phase 3 ones??

Hey jq, Aaron just released the Nevermind IR pack today. Will you be getting it for your future videos? Cool video, by the way!

I get most of my guitars from Reverb. I don't know what breaks in the SansAmp, I think Tech 21 calls it the main module.
@ thx :) And what symptoms did you have? The same as me?

the phase 4 body looks thicker, does it feel any different? glad you're back btw!
it's not thicker, it feels about the same. thanks for the comment!
