This interview is wonderful. I learned many new things about Tolkien’s faith, especially how deep it was.

I fully share that the story is deeply catholic, to such an extent, that i feel some kind of relation to these persons comparable as the ones with Saints. So i formly and firmly believe Frodo etc. are a kind of backed up by people in heaven, so as to substitute those who aren't directly accessible so to speak. Very clear professor by the way.

Would Tolkein have memorized the Canon of the Mass in English or Latin? Also, thank you for including a glossary and multiple appendices. I personally find it frustrating when an author (although it’s probably a miss on the editorial side) doesn’t include even a simple index.

Almost definitely Latin as that was the standard language of the church in his time, and he died not long after the reforms of the Vatican II council which allowed for vernacular to be used in masses. However, as skilled as he was with languages - I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d translated them.

Definitely Latin. He died pretty soon after Vatican 2.

We look to these amazing Catholics and forget/ignore the mass which fed them so deeply.

What do you mean? In another interview, the author of the book dedicates an extensive part of it to Tolkien’s love for the Eucharist.
