I remember when this song was on the charts! I was 5 years old....I saw Buddy twice in concert here in Vancouver BC and met him once in the early 70s. Very nice and polite. Back then he was involved in the Kejac's Steakhouse/Cabaret in Vancouver..His concerts were some of the best I've ever attended....RIP Buddy! ♥
This song was actually released originally in 1911-1912, and when Buddy recorded it in 1957 he just plagiarized it and registered it for copyright as his composition, which it was not.
You are correct. "My Hula Hula Love": words by Edward Madden, music by Percy Wenrich. I have a copy of the sheet music, copyright 1911 by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York.
Originally My HulaHula Love written 1911 by L.Edward Madden, sung by Donna Connolly. Knox changed lyrics & title in 1957. Erroneously attributed to Alldred.
He Didn't write this song, even though the record label that was placed on that record gave the credit to him!! I remember him getting some flax over this!!! Nice song and talented singer. Thanks for posting!! May 12,2019.
He didn't write this song, even though he was gaven the credit on the recording label(Which I have in my personal Collection). He took it from a song that had been released in the mid-late twentys!!! Talent Singer/Good Recording even though it was stolen from a earlier recording!!! Oct.27,2019.
Great song but they cut the guitar solo! Guess that what happened back in the lipsync days. (The drummer looks bored out of his gourd; the rest of them are gaving a pretty decent time.) Buddy Knox's voice always smiled when he sang....
judging by the many Ricky Nelson tracks on RUclips, mostly taken from his appearances on the Ozzy & Hariet TV show, yes sadly it was the norm to cut the guitar solo - especially bad in James Burton's case, I think the singer was always the star and not the band. And yes the drummer here is not a happy bunny, possibly cos he's a lousy mimer lol.
It all went downhill fast after this One, at least he didn't try and cash in on the sound of his first big hit with the next couple of releases like many did back then. He tried different things but quickly faded from the charts

Wether youngsters want to admit it or not the 50s and 60s shaped the mold for everything else that followed
I love the oldies
My mother and Buddy's mother were first cousins. As a youngster I remember Buddy being at family reunions in Texas.

Well, he and the orchards were on fat tony solerno's record label so they were lucky if they even got paid for performances.....
That poor Bass Player, looks like he is in another zip code.
Love this song but they totally skipped over that middle part!
