The first gig I ever took my wife to was Alton Ellis in Southamptin circa 1970. Then met him in Dub Vendor about 1985 ish. Great humility, so polite and upfull. Simply the best male vocalist Jamaica has ever produced. RIP Mr. Ellis, you are sadly missed.
Thank you Alton for the joy and the experience you gave us I greatly appreciate the beauty of your music and I thank god for giving all of us your sound and the feeling it opened up inside all of us god bless you for the music you left us it will always b a part of us.. P. S.. Laugh, hustle ,live life and always stay true to yourself and everything you do.
I see my favourite band.. I wish I had gotten the chance to experience one of Alton's live show.. He was a great man and his music lives on today.. I play his songs daily and people always saying I am tooyoung to love old music but thats where the good music is... Old school good music never gets old... sleep in peace Sir Ellis
I love his songs! I'm always moved! I would also love to have gone to a show of this idol that conveyed a wonderful energy. Thank you for the songs you left, they make my day! S2 S2
RIP Alton Ellis. I watched one of your last performances in Utrecht, Holland with the Dutch Band the High Notes. Incredible show!! I'm of Jamaican heritage and also coming up to the stage in life where the generation above me are leaving us. Jamaican people as you see celebrate someone's life and its so typical to have a funeral life this. Its the way I want to go out.
coconut1983pc Lord me God me noble ben no say mr. Alton ellis pass. And. Why alcapone was singing mosquito 1 mosquito 2 mosquito jump in the hot coullau sent mosquito fe put out de lamb de mosquito use him bottom to put out de light wat a fuckery song that. 😀😀😀😀😀😥
I do wish I was blessed to see him perform but his beautiful soulful voice will forever live on. Rest in peace to the godfather of Rocksteady. THE KING!
Funeral in Jamaica is mostly a joyous occasion as we believe the person has gone off to start a new life. I remeber when my father died evryone sang and danced til morning, no crying at all.
What a sad day ,rip Alton . Utmost thanks and respect for this post. Got a tear in my eye. Had some great times being brought up with his music.big hello Jamaica xx
When I found out Mr Alton Ellis was taken away from us by Father God I cried cause he has done so much for reggae music....It was a sad day all over the world when Alton Passed but his music and his vibes will live on through us forever!
I have seen Alton on Stage and off Stage even in the Studio and he was just the same genuine person, Alton gave me the best advice when I was recording a song with a little problem, then Alton said to Me; Don't rush the rhythm, Just Ride it. Ride the rhythm.
I saw Alton and many other artists back in Ja throughout the 1950's and into early 60's. At that time there was a Christmas show at Carib Theater and there is where they would all show their wares. Along with Vere Johns Oppty hour at Gaiety, Palace and Rialto theaters. Of course there were many other venues but these are the ones I visited. I can recall those Histories way before Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, John Holt and many others.
Daisy Powponne that's wonderful! what an honor to named after such a great artist. I have have always thought the name "Alton" is very nice and dignified, although I don't think I'll name any of my kids after his sister; "Hortense", as much as I like her music... I just couldn't do that to a little girl! 😋
wow man the passing of another great legend first Dennis Brown now Alton Ellis? soon all the true artists gwan gone and all only the slackness dj gwan be left
