@@jayess7350525 Wound strings! I think I’m using 10-52 on this guitar. I didn’t tune all the way down to G# though, I used a pitch shift plugin otherwise the strings would’ve been too floppy haha

See I just want to take that extra step forward, and play much like this - complex, quick and accurate. I ask you, if you could recommend anything technique wise to develop, anything theory wise to learn, or anything scale wise to memorise in order to improve playing to this kind of a level - what would you recommend? I’m a self taught guitarist and I have these waves of major development, but I’ve been finding myself a bit stuck lately and I just would love to hear some tips and helpful advise from a player at your level. I would really love to hear what you could say about this - much love from Sydney my friend, really keep up these covers. (Maybe even consider playing some Void of Vision or Thornhill to go with that Polaris)
Hey dude, firstly, I appreciate the kind words! I think the first thing that pops in to mind for me with regards to pushing past that plateau and developing a bit further as a player is actually making these videos. Learning a song and repeating it a thousand times to film a video sorta gives me a reason to play for longer periods of time when I otherwise may not. So basically, the extra time I spend playing really helps with improving certain techniques. It doesn’t happen overnight, but I remember feeling like I hit my limit playing-wise back in 2015, sort of like a plateau, and now when I look back on those videos I feel like my playing and technique has gotten a lot better since. I don’t have much knowledge on theory, but neither do most of my favourite guitarists so fuck it haha. I always found that just learning songs from different bands, stepping out of my comfort zone and just having fun with it works best for me. And make sure your alternate picking/palm muting and hand positioning or whatever it may be isn’t making life harder for you than it has to be. Sometimes you may not realise your technique is a bit off and it affects what sort of stuff you can play. I dunno, just a thought! Also, play some acoustic guitar if you don’t already. Builds up good finger strength! Maybe I’ll make a video on this some day, I feel like I waffled on there hahaha. Good luck bro 🤘
