St augustine is beautiful and fun to visit, but we ended up choosing to live near the coast in Ponte Vedra Beach, if we moved away from the coast it would in Nocatee or julington area, st augustine proper just feels too busy with a lot of sketchy areas and people with most of the schools being bad. Great to live near but not in IMO.
I wish I could have gotten up that way to check it out. Didn't make it that far up this time, next time. I hear on St Augustine, it could lose its appeal if it gets too big
Oh that should be fun! I actually really liked it there and I’m looking forward to talking about it in future videos. Happy birthday! Our birthdays are close
you should check out places to eat like the sea food kitchen, the more popular ones yes have a waiting line, but there are other great places to eat that the locals go to. also there are a ton of small towns around saint augustine where prices are a lot lower, crescent beach is the same beach as flagler, flagler beach is where st augustine is, go back over the main bridge and head towards East Palatka before you ever get there about 10 to 15min outside St. Augustine on the left look for signs taking you to crescent beach, lots of restaurants, houses, condos, if you keep heading to East Palatka great seafood restaurants right there on rt 17. Im originally from that area and hope to move back. Happy Travels, love your channel
Yes I’m familiar with Crescent Beach I passed through there several times while exploring the area. I’ll definitely be checking out prices in the surrounding areas too. Happy you enjoy my channel!
Got to see the white sands at Destin! We did a road trip in March, stayed in Tampa, but got to see Orlando, Clearwater beach, st Pete beach/pier, siesta key beach, then on the way back to illinois we stayed in Destin, loved seeing all the white sand beaches!

I tried but the owner politely declined my offer LOL. I’m going to keep my eyes open but I refuse to overpay. Even if it takes 10 more years for me to buy there at some point prices will correct

@@greennbean I pretty much agree. Things are out of control there right now. And if the quality of life starts to suffer in the area due to congestion and too many new transplants, it will lose its appeal
These videos offer great perspective on potential areas.........however to do that you are right that you would need 2 to 3 days minimum to really get the vibe right and consider if its a place right for you. Love how your honest with no hidden agenda and give us the results straight up. Keep up the great work but take a day or two to relax.....thats the only way to really take in the environments your visiting!
Definitely today and yesterday were more relaxing, and Tallahassee is actually pretty relaxing place. I'm happy to report what I see and feel at the moment, and I'm so happy you enjoy that 😀
I think your hook is not only saving people time but your knowledge base allows you to interpret Florida better than most viewers even if they did the same thing. I have a lot of opinions on Miami from my trip but I don’t have the history to compare like you do. Also I’ve never been to the gulf coast and only once to Palm Beach so I just don’t have the time to have more than first impressions. I really only know Space Coast and First Coast. I will probably start surfing Treasure Coast more plus I like the blue water in Del Rey beach over the green water in New Smyrna
While we all appreciate your insight and so many of us have questions, I think you should go slower at your own pace and just enjoy the journey. You can cover the West coast or what not another time. Stay a few days or such in an area and get to know it. Then when you come home you can really analyze places vs just skimming the top. Driving is too tiring now that I'm older. Thanks for this video, will def check out this town someday!
You have got to go a little further and check out Pensacola Beach. It is so secluded and white sands like sugar, and teal water. Please don’t miss it. Go out to the beach by the Porto Fino Resort. You have got to check it all out. Gulf Breeze is nice too. We will be down there in July around Ocala looking for a home. Tired of the Wisconsin weather. Love your videos. Safe travels and take care.
I want to, but I'm checking weather right now, and its supposed to be raining next couple days, so might have to skip it this time around. Glad you are finally get out of wisconsin and for the safe travel wishes 😊
I like the idea of you guys staying for a few days in different places and really reporting on each place with several videos dedicated to each area. You can always go to the other places later, but in depth exploration and reporting would be great! Plus, with your personality, I think a slower pace and a few days in each place would feel more comfortable to you. Great videos! Love this travel series!
That is exactly what I am thinking and feeling too. Rest of the trip is at least 2 nights in each place👍 Also to get a feel for if I would ever want to go back to a certain spot and stay for a week or more. So glad you are liking it😀
We live in Sarasota and love it here but we travel all over the state. If you like St Augustine you’ll love Pensacola, it’s a shame you didn’t make it over there. The downtown is a very cool historic area with a laid back vibe and the beaches are beautiful. Maybe it’s a good thing though timing wise because when we went (4/21) the main bridge to the beach was closed and it made getting to the beach a chore. Overall though, really liked Pensacola and like Tallahassee it had some elevation to it, but it also has beaches. Very cool town.
I like Sarasota too, very laid back area. I wish we could have made it to Pensacola, we were so close. But we were being chased out by thunderstorms and tornado watches, so figured it would be best to move on and take advantage of the good weather somewhere else.
I've visited st augustine often and outside of the house prices the only other issues that would keep from there is the job market and how they have a large homeless/panhandling population that covers the entirety of the downtown historical area. Would that impact your decision any?
@@MichaelBordenaro Really digging your videos and the open perspective you share. I'm visiting Amelia Island for the first time this week, drove up from Ormond Beach. We are so fortunate wr have so many lovely spots in Florida.
I am moving to Florida this year. This is my goal. St.Augustine, or Palm Coast. I heard that there is a big Portuguese community in Palm Coast. Good padarias. Let Lizy know 😉.
Not everywhere, especially not Miami. The media and even people on youtube exaggerate it, but yes it is a unique market and I would attribute mostly to pandemic
I found this video 100% pure quality, really enjoyed this chat. On the pan handle side, if possible I’d highly recommended to visit the beach in Navarre (26 miles west of Destin) as it is way less crowded than Destin and also I found the water to be more greener than Destin.
Thank you very much! I really just gave my thoughts as they came in this one. I'm right over this way now, just landed in Fort Walton Beach for the night. Although weather is bad here now and supposedly tomorrow too, we'll see
Have you thought of running your own b and b ....as an added bonus, Lizzie can advertise free dog sitting...where you are staying right now, are they doing a thriving business? 200 plus per night x 5 nights or so...not bad
Yes absolutely and that is the plan although, not sure where yet and part of this trip is helping figure that out. I'm definitely inspired to do it bc of my friend michael who is crushing it in the airbnb business right now😊
I am with a small company called beachfront Realty. Might it to you would be to always be out in about meeting new people because that's the best way to get clients and its free
Enjoyed the chat! Being so far north, is St. Augustine too cold for the beach in the winter? Please let us know if the food is touristy, I'm a foodie and hate living in places where the food is catered mostly to tourists. Looking forward to the rest of your trip, please let us know what the vibe and culture feels like and yes, get new shirts :) for her sake :)
If you mean water temps it’s not as warm as Miami water in December- February and surfing we wear wetsuits but if you mean just being on the beach and ankle walking along the shore it’s fine and sunny and 70 degrees or more most days
@@jonahhex9620 Thanks for the reply. I did mean both water temps and being able to lay out and feel the warmth of the sun.Wondering if it's only a couple months of the year that it's not pleasant or many months. Thanks again!
@@laura-zu4yz Florida fluctuates but generally speaking Thanksgiving water temps in the high 60s to the mid 60s from Christmas to Valentine’s Day or St Patrick’s day which isn’t terrible. But a 1 hour drive south to Daytona area it warms up more and if you drive 3 hours to Cape Canaveral the water is often warm enough to swim in a bathing suit. Miami is a 5 to 6 hour drive
@@laura-zu4yz I lived in Los Angeles thru high school and left Santa Cruz and San Francisco last year for Florida. The waves are superior in California but the beaches are generally prettier than most California beaches and the water is warmer but 90% of the time you have to pay for parking for Florida beaches. Each beach has a different vibe attracting different ages or interests in Florida. Sunsets look better in Tampa but there’s almost no surfing there. There are hazards ranging from sharks or alligators to currents and in some Florida beaches obnoxious jet skiers. St Augustine is a more quiet and mellow place than Fort Lauderdale or Miami South Beach.
On your way back home you should check out the town of Dunedin, next to Clearwater (I'd tell you to come check out my town, but we have enough people who keep moving here already...😃) but Dunedin is a pretty spread out town with a small town feel to it... and it's just a few minutes from Clearwater Beach.
@@Seekyourtruth777 Traffic is just crazy in Orlando it's pretty bad here but it doesn't last very long but they keep building and building which means more and more traffic but I don't think it will get as bad as Orlando... I hope...😀
My plan, when I get back from The Philippines, is to buy a new vehicle, maybe a Honda CRV Hybrid and a new Trek bike. Then spend 2 - 3 months going from Airbnb to Airbnb up and down both the east and west coasts of FL to see what area most inspires and suits me. Checking out homes on the market all along the way. Should be an enlightening trip.
That is a fantastic idea, and you should definitely do it. So far, my experience has been that you really don't need all that long to spend in some places. If you have good intuition, you can get an idea pretty quick and easily if you like an area or not and if its worth spending more time.
Panhandle has a lot of hurricanes Nice sugar sand beaches but more like Alabama weather Very cold in the winters Doesn’t feel like Florida I bought in Daytona Beach Shores but was told Palm Coast is very cool and anywhere along Flagler Blvd is desirable Happy Hunting !
I say spend a few days in each, relax, soak up the ambience of the places you're in. I would say skip Destin, it's such a tourist trap place. I think Ft Walton is far more homey and inviting and only a few minutes from Destin. Also I'm in Pensacola just moved a few months ago and having a heck of a time finding a home to buy. The market here is very much like your describing in St Augustine. But I'm loving it here and the beaches are top notch!
Michael definitely you need to spend time in Destin plus you cross Navare Beach also on your way down from Pensacola and also Okaloosa Island 🏝 Emerald Coast is the best part of Florida!!!
I have a love hate with the tourists. They take up parking and cause long lines but my 2nd job is a tourist industry job paying $50 per tour I give so without them my income drops since most jobs in St Augustine are in the $10-15 per hour salary range
Palm Coast doesn’t have much to offer but for some reason it can be cooler than even St Augustine on hot days not always but occasionally and in the winter it’s rarely cold compared to Jacksonville with a week long stretch of 36 degree days in December and January
Thanks for the information, we are planning to visit st Augustine, hopefully soon , my husband will like to move there . How is winter in that area ? Do you will show the area in future videos ? Thank you .
Nice info. We’re doing the same thing, staying a week in each place. I switched to vrbo because airbnb now wants all kinds of id that I don’t want to share with them. Renting a home is the way to go in my book.
HI Michael, thanks for the chat and sharing your thoughts. I prefer AirBnb's myself! I have lived in FWB/Destin and now Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch. I think your videos are very informative. I have wondered about real estate in other parts of Florida, and I appreciate your informative videos.
My pleasure, for some reason I had to put this video out and just get my raw thoughts out on the situation while they were fresh. Heading to Destin tomorrow actually! Although, weather not looking great in the area for next couple days, but I'll visit anyway because getting up this way is much further than visiting anywhere on the peninsula. I"m really happy you enjoy my content, and thanks so much for being a member 😀
Michael, SO glad you are doing this. I've been researching FL for awhile now & think N Fl above Daytona is my best bet. I'm looking 30 to 40 mins off the coast for $ reasons. But what you report may influence the final decision. Thank you!
You said it was Wed and we're seeing this Sat so, not sure how far you are now but I can't imagine only spending 2 days in St. Augustine or any other midsize towns to be able to really experience them. Even if you haven't been to some of the bigger cities before, you kind of know what you are going to get in a big city - and anyway, I don't think you 'd want to live there with that traffic. When you're driving part of the time on A1A and then just spending a few waking hours on other roads and where you are staying, it's probably hard to get an idea of what the area is like. Spending more time at each location and showing us what you are experiencing for a few days may be a better option. Hope you saw a little of Ormand Beach (one of my favorites on that coast - so quiet and relaxing) and maybe Flagler Beach as you were driving through. But you're probably up in the Panhandle by now so I guess it doesn't matter. Coming from the Midwest too, I can understand how staying at a home with grass and a yard would feel comfortable - I know I'm going to miss that once I leave for SW Florida in a few months. I did like this video, you look so relaxed.
Yeah, I think you need to stay for a day or two in each area to get a good feel of the area. Looking forward to seeing your Palm Coast video because that is where we are considering...but we shall see! I’m not wanting to get in the middle of bidding wars. Too old for that! Lol I’ll be heading down there myself sometime this summer to check it out.
@@lindylou3519 no don't say that. Palm coast has very little to offer , I work there, and live 25 mins from there. It's cheap for a reason. Can’t wait to hear what you think of Palm Coast. I’ll be checking it out in a couple weeks, as well as a few other areas. I get what you are saying though...how can we decide which area we want to live in by only visiting for a day or two. I’m hoping we just fall in love with one area then we can go back again and spend a week or more there on our next trip before we move next year.
Yes that is tough, even for someone like me who has lived in FL for a long time. The vibes and atmosphere really changes a lot place to place. Let me know how you enjoy your trip down here 😀
I'm interested in seeing/learning more about Crawfordville. Some reasonably priced homes on land come up on my searches and it is peaking my curiosity. I've been leaning towards west/central area for the old growth oak tree canopies, but it looks pretty good up in the Crawfordville area from what little I can see on satellite maps. It rates very high for quality of life. Anyone know first hand?
Florida is being gentrified anything close to the water. In the 90's it was dirt cheap but not anymore. You need a real job or money to live there. I used to have neighbors that literally worked fast food and lived on the beach
I used to live on 17th and Meridian in south beach in 95-96’ and passed d $700 for a cute 1 bedroom . You’re right about living on the beach for cheap . I didn’t have a job I had a roommate and we lived a good life in our early 20s
Just came back from looking for places in Orlando Celebration was one of our favorite areas as well as Windermere drove out to the coast cocoa beach all very nice and real estate very busy love your videos keep them coming
There are not many affordable houses ANYWHERE in America that is real desirable to most people. The inventory in Miami is greater because it is a more transient town, and so much inventory is high-rises, where turnover is always greater. I think a place like Coral Gables (other than Miami U housing) is pretty stable, as it is gorgeous, and more low key than Miami Beach or Brickell, Coconut Grove, or even Aventura/Bal Harbour/Sunny Isles. St Augustine is not a big jobs center, either, meaning it attracts a different buyer - those who work remotely or retired/wealthy folks.
@@jdhjimbo Yep a lot places are struggling, but there will be some sort of correction for sure, just a matter of when. Miami always has plenty of houses for sale too, not just condos but the more desirable areas of course are pretty expensive just like St Augustine
@@MichaelBordenaro If price was no object, I would live in CG or Coconut Grove, or even Key Biscayne is pretty nice - all 3 away from some of the largest congestion. Miami Beach is a nice spot, but it often feels loved to death!
I feel your pain on housing, as you already know. My realtor won’t even make an offer unless I have all cash. They won’t accept an offer down there unless it’s all cash and probably well above the list price. Looks like Florida is no longer an option for me at least.
For years I dreamed of living in Florida. In 2016, I moved to St. Augustine and thought I'd finally realized that dream. When the pandemic came, the dream ended. Hundreds of thousands of people poured into Florida from the North and everywhere else and ruined everything! St. Augustine was a very desirable area to live in for a few reasons, but one of the main draws is the St. John's schools. The area was very clean, roads had no trash and people were nice. Now...no more. There's trash and garbage on the roads and the people who have moved there have brought their not so nice ways with them. Long story short, I moved out of Florida in March and wont ever go back. I wish anyone who moves there good luck. The only thing Florida has going for it is Governor De Santis. He's awesome!
@@MichaelBordenaro I can't tell you how sad it made me to move from Florida. However, I'm very happy where I am now, so I guess it was just meant to be!😊
My girlfriend of 4 years' family is up in Kissimmee and they are letting me stay with them for a few months until I can get an apartment setup. I live in Texas now and I'm 20 years old so I resonate with your move story. I just worry about finding a job and my own path and if I'll like it in central Florida rather than being on the beach. This is probably some TMI but I was just wondering if you had any advice on kind of finding my own way or path without falling into a dead end job and not being able to enjoy Florida life outside work. Thanks man, super inspiring.
Hey Nicholas my advice to you is that you will never know unless you try. So I say if it's something you're interested in doing then just go for it and be mindful of the fact that you are here in Florida and try to take advantage of all the great things we have to offer here when you're not working 👌
Yes I had to get up early for most of my trip due to early check outs at the hotels and airbnbs, but also I had a big excitement to get up everyday and see what we'll find that day 😀
No!!!! It's not... for those of us that have lived here for generations, our young adult children are pushed out to neighboring counties to live, where its more affordable for them

I wish I could have gotten up that way to check it out. Didn't make it that far up this time, next time. I hear on St Augustine, it could lose its appeal if it gets too big
St John's county has best schools in the state of Florida.
@@komododrag5232 it does but st augustine proper has the worst in st johns

🙋Hello Michael
Hi Mary!
Love the videos. Maybe stay few days in one area to get a good view of it.
Yes Palm Coast! Need to see the area.
Hi handsome, I mean Micheal welcome to st.augustine the real capitol of Florida.😉
Rumor has it I'm getting an AirB&B for my birthday next week in Daytona. I'm nervous, but excited?
Oh that should be fun! I actually really liked it there and I’m looking forward to talking about it in future videos. Happy birthday! Our birthdays are close
@@MichaelBordenaro Thats great to hear! Thank you! Good luck on your super journey!
@@lextacy2008 thanks same to you!
You look gorgeous in those white t-shirts. It sounds you want to move to St. Augustine.😊😊
you should check out places to eat like the sea food kitchen, the more popular ones yes have a waiting line, but there are other great places to eat that the locals go to. also there are a ton of small towns around saint augustine where prices are a lot lower, crescent beach is the same beach as flagler, flagler beach is where st augustine is, go back over the main bridge and head towards East Palatka before you ever get there about 10 to 15min outside St.
Just arrived in the area today! Glad you enjoyed your trip in FL too !
Brother; If you can buy it,go for it...St Johns is becoming the number one place in the US to buy...PS;I sold my Palm Coast pool property in minutes last weekend...
I tried but the owner politely declined my offer LOL. I’m going to keep my eyes open but I refuse to overpay. Even if it takes 10 more years for me to buy there at some point prices will correct
I’m glad you got started, I think a couple of days is the way to go. Look forward to the rode trip.
Yes that bird did sound Mad ! Yes it’s a good idea to stay and enjoy the adventure for us . So glad to hear that people are there . every where you go.
Hi Lizzie . 💕💕💕💕💕
Maybe try a combo and see which works best for you based on your timeline and feedback.
I like all your videos!!
Yes I’ve been taking it easier after the first couple days being too rough for me LOL. Still getting a lot done but at a little slower pace
I think he likes Saint Augustine the best👍🏼
We'll see, still have a long way to go😉 Not liking their prices, I can tell you that much
@@MichaelBordenaro I was going to buy. Now I am waiting for the crash. Multifamily has no upside with the current prices right now.
@@greennbean are you referring to Saint Augustine or real estate in general?
@@MichaelBordenaro real estate in general right now. But I was referring to st augustine
I agree, and that is how I'm handling the rest of the trip, so far been much better bc of it👍
work trip. you are living the live my friend.
Haha I'm not complaining lol
East coast has waves..gulf side is like a bathtub no waves
Pensacola--it’s just ok
Quality over quantity sounds like a great idea! 😁
I think so too!
I've visited st augustine often and outside of the house prices the only other issues that would keep from there is the job market and how they have a large homeless/panhandling population that covers the entirety of the downtown historical area. Would that impact your decision any?
The jobs would not since I don’t need a job but if the homeless situation is pretty bad that would impact my decision

Try 30a next to Panama, it’s stunning. And while in the area try The British Eatery 👍🏻
Just drove up most of it today! I liked the rosemary beach area and west of there a lot
Every where you go is experiencing shortages, and every where you go houses are even selling for double the price not just Miami or Florida.
Although weather is bad here now and supposedly tomorrow too, we'll see
You don't see a house with a basement in florida that often
Have you thought of running your own b and b ....as an added bonus, Lizzie can advertise free dog sitting...where you are staying right now, are they doing a thriving business? 200 plus per night x 5 nights or so...not bad
Yes absolutely and that is the plan although, not sure where yet and part of this trip is helping figure that out. I'm definitely inspired to do it bc of my friend michael who is crushing it in the airbnb business right now😊
Where did you hang your license in Miami? Any tips for an aspiring agent?
I am with a small company called beachfront Realty. Might it to you would be to always be out in about meeting new people because that's the best way to get clients and its free
Enjoyed the chat! Being so far north, is St. Augustine too cold for the beach in the winter? Please let us know if the food is touristy, I'm a foodie and hate living in places where the food is catered mostly to tourists. Looking forward to the rest of your trip, please let us know what the vibe and culture feels like and yes, get new shirts :) for her sake :)
To me its not too cold, but maybe some would say so. Looking forward to reporting it all!

I think that you should definitely try to buy it!! It looks beautiful, and St Augustine in general looks like a really nice spot!!
Gonna love that U-shape tee-shirt 😁
😆

Yes that is very true! Not looking to move to panhandle though, just visiting and observing 😊
I'll be over there tomorrow, my first time in the area, looking forward to it!
Michael definitely you need to spend time in Destin plus you cross Navare Beach also on your way down from Pensacola and also Okaloosa Island 🏝 Emerald Coast is the best part of Florida!!!

Headed there tomorrow!
We have a home in Sarasota. Thumbs up to wearing your favorite comfy worn in tshirts !!!
Oh nice, I'll be coming down that way soon! Thanks, they are comfy 😊
I have a love hate with the tourists. They take up parking and cause long lines but my 2nd job is a tourist industry job paying $50 per tour I give so without them my income drops since most jobs in St Augustine are in the $10-15 per hour salary range
I think most of FL probably feels the same way

Palm Coast doesn’t have much to offer but for some reason it can be cooler than even St Augustine on hot days not always but occasionally and in the winter it’s rarely cold compared to Jacksonville with a week long stretch of 36 degree days in December and January
Thanks for the information, we are planning to visit st Augustine, hopefully soon , my husband will like to move there . How is winter in that area ? Do you will show the area in future videos ? Thank you .

I’d pick Destin and I’ve been to Tallahassee twice I didn’t find it interesting. The fall and spring weather is supposedly the best for Florida

Thank you!
Me too! I hope I can help many people decide which will be the best place for them. Starting to drop these videos today
Florida is being gentrified anything close to the water. In the 90's it was dirt cheap but not anymore. You need a real job or money to live there. I used to have neighbors that literally worked fast food and lived on the beach

It seem that the moral of this story is that there are no affordable houses in St. Augustine.
Its not even just affordable, just not much for sale in general at all!
@@jdhjimbo Thank you for the insightful reply 👍
There are more affordable places, which I'll be reporting on
For years I dreamed of living in Florida.

Hey Nicholas my advice to you is that you will never know unless you try. So I say if it's something you're interested in doing then just go for it and be mindful of the fact that you are here in Florida and try to take advantage of all the great things we have to offer here when you're not working 👌
