@7:50 Looks like the over-cut (which you probably did not intend) sent your cue much further than you planned. @15:05 My problem ball in this spot is the 14. I like shooting the 14 with stop. Then you should be out from there with a lot of different options. But if you are not confident about the 14 and prefer to shoot the 10, there are certain times when bumping the 14 is good. With a little stun follow speed, your cue will follow the 14 bump and give you a shot on the 11,12, or 14, with the 9 as insurance. The 12 will get you to the 13, so you would be out. I do agree with fixed furniture, but I think putting too much emphasis on that will limit your options. You also had the pinch draw on the 10 for the 12/13. You shot the 13, but I would have come half way across with draw for the 12 in the side. But you were not zoned in, and were only comfortable with your speed and minimal english, so I get it. I've been there myself. Still, you grinded this rack out. Good out! BTW, hold the 11. Send the 10. @25:50 This is definitely draw for me. Even if I have to go to the top rail and bounce out, these moments are key for me where I can let my stroke out, gain some confidence, and move towards getting zoned in. You would have been on the correct side of the 1 while doing that. @29:30 Almost got in trouble, but way to grind out 2 runs on games 4 & 5. @40:15 Great Shot!!! @41:45, DVP, you HAVE to stroke that a little harder. Too important of a shot to roll. @43:30 If you are confident of hitting the 1, I like the 2 rail kick (top & right side) at a speed where the cue would hide behind the 3 or even the 5/9. The 2 will contain the 1. You probably would have had a good chance of a safe. But if you wanted to tie up, the 7 into the left side of the 1 to take away the carom was probably the better play. @46:30 Not a fan of this shot being so close to the rail. Getting angle on the 3 is key, and controlling the follow on the 1 is difficult with so little room. If you have enough room for an angle, I like the 1 in the top left corner and stun/draw across to the middle of the table. If not, send the 1 down towards the top left corner and carom the 6. Then you can stroke the 1 and position for the 3. @53:40 Ron?...Sorry Drew.... Couldn't resist @1:08:25 Looked good to me. Seems like you were not zoned in and were not comfortable letting your stroke out all game. Happens to the bet of us. You'll get em next time! Just Don't play Chris from OTS 😂
One of my favorite things about this is how we talked after the match about doing a montage of the kicks I made to open the video, and this is the first thing I see. Love it!
You played excellent pool Drew - you can hold your head high. It’s difficult not to tighen up against a better opponent when you realize you might actually have a chance to win. Great take-and-run by you in rack 4. Even better break-and-run in rack 5 with excellent minimal cue ball movement. I miss those critical shots like 41:45 from either a pokey stroke or back hand too tight on the cue. The only way to fix that is more real life ‘money ball’ situations. You missed the same short rail cut shot with outside spin twice in a row the same way (2nd time at 1:01:00) - probably the wrong aim point - practice that shot and you’ll be a golden next time.

My chalk looked exactly like yours when I used Master chalk. I had no issues identifying it if I accidentally left it at a table! Just look at how Adam was kicking in balls with his Pagulayan chalk if you don’t believe 😂 Really though, Master chalk does everything it is supposed to, it just gets everywhere. No problem if you consistently clean the cue ball and periodically clean the table surface. I’m religious about cleaning the cue ball in a match, but at home I don’t think about it until one of my shots throws in an unexpected way. I’ve even had balls do a little hop when they get hit by the cue ball with a chalk mark on the contact point. I’ve also got rid of the ziplock bags I used to keep Master chalk in because the Taom came in a little decorative box and I store the chalk in it inside my bag. Can’t lie though, I’ve had my heart sink on a couple occasions wondering where my chalk was. Both times I found it pretty quickly, but it is expensive to think about the possibility of losing it. I try to keep the box in the top part of my bag that opens up to get cues out. If the box is there, that means my chalk is out either on the edge of the table or in my hands. Otherwise the chalk is in the box and inside the pocket of the bag.
@@jonathangoff8005 I've heard rumors that the Pagulayan chalk is just Taom re-branded and re-shaped. I've dropped too many Taoms into coin op tables, and chasing it across the floor, etc. When I saw the Pagulayan chalk I decided to make the switch. I don't feel any difference at all.
I have found that a smaller bridge does wonders for my game. I seem to have so much better speed control as well as aim. I'd say mine is around 7" or so.
Same, honestly…. But I these better players seem to be able to do so much more with whitey with the long bridge… idk We’ll see how I play in the coming months! Thanks for the feedback! 👊🏼
usually when I shoot an angle into the side , if there is a clear path, I'll run the cue ball down and back. It's easier to control than trying to hold the cue ball after hitting the object ball into the side (just my opinion....)
Man I go back and forth on this… i lose whitey sometimes! I think it depends on my angle…. I risked it twice in this one 😅 Thanks for chiming in!! Good to know I need to just get better at it!! 🧐🤣
Hard to see from this angle if the 8 is in the way, but at 48:44 I think I try the 3 rail kick over the jump shot. Think it's a little easier to execute when the blocking ball is that close to the cue ball. Worth checking out Jennifer Barretta's video on 3 rail kicking. (I think it's on the Kamui Brand youtube channel)
Omg JB dude, I never shoot the 3-rail. Familiar with it, but never shoot it. When I read your comment, I was like “🙄”…. But I just went to that shot and good lord it’s screaming 3-rail!!!!!! If there was ever a moment, thats was it!!! -🤦🏻♂️-
@ I shoot it far too often so I’m always looking out for it 😂 One of the guys on my 9 ball team is always practising it before games and it came up in his game and he completely forgot about it and tried a one rail and missed. Have a good Thanksgiving my friend.
@@JamesPlaysPool and Drew - I kind of like a one pocket like safety here, mostly going for distance. Cue ball to the first diamond on the bottom rail with a bunch of left spin, hit the left/top side of the 5 and send it towards the rail under the 9, then the cue ball goes up table, possibly behind the 7 or even the 8. You don't want to hit it hard enough to bank the 5 cross corner, but even leaving distance is good if the 5 is on the bottom rail.
Dude, they put the most whack cut shots into those rounded side pockets!!! Did you know the british UP tables are 6 foot???? I always thought they were 7 like ours! UP America, is OUR 7 foot tables and our pointy pockets, for the record lol
1:09:00 Even if the cue hit the 4 and 5 at the same time, benefit goes to shooter so it was legal. But it was also a slop shot which is a downside of 9b. Hence why I prefer 10b.

I was more on my A game towards the end of the match, and like a C- to start the match. Also, has anyone seen my B game?
@@drewvonporte I've noticed a pattern. I can play just friendly pool for "nothing" (as in no score or anything) just fine, and I can play a match against someone I don't know just fine. But when it comes to friendly games for "something" (whether score or money or league or tournament), I think I am way more relaxed than I should be, and need to focus more. Never seen your video's, stumbled across this and enjoyed it. Better than the other amateur pool video's I've seen lately. I'll have to check out some of your others. One observation: I don't know why, but all amateur pool youtubers put themselves in the frame the whole time (your video in the upper right of this one). Not sure why that is. I never see commentators in pro pool (or any other sport) with video's of themselves commentating the whole time. Not necessarily a big deal, but it's a tiny bit of a distraction and IMO doesn't really add anything to the commentary.
😂 I kid I kidd… I 💯% know what you are saying. What I’ve found is, there’s something about having a connection with someone, seeing their face, feeling like you are hanging out with them. That is 100% a RUclips thing… not so much the professional sports thing… but IT IS a specific thing that pro sports WILL show the commentators here and there, to remind you who is talking and make that connection. My videos are not necessarily for just the ones who watch pro pool, including both you and I. I try to make it a fun, entertaining experience for the non-pool people as well! Hopefully my ugly mug doesn’t ruin it for you! I try to add a lot to make it fun for anyone to come hang out and watch me lose 😂 thank you for this feedback though, seriously!!!

But I these better players seem to be able to do so much more with whitey with the long bridge… idk
We’ll see how I play in the coming months!
I risked it twice in this one 😅
Thanks for chiming in!!
I would like to caveat this by explaining that I am terrible at pool.
Omg JB dude, I never shoot the 3-rail. Familiar with it, but never shoot it. When I read your comment, I was like “🙄”…. But I just went to that shot and good lord it’s screaming 3-rail!!!!!! If there was ever a moment, thats was it!!!
-🤦🏻♂️-
@ I shoot it far too often so I’m always looking out for it 😂
One of the guys on my 9 ball team is always practising it before games and it came up in his game and he completely forgot about it and tried a one rail and missed.
Ultimate is great. I wonder about there side pockets, they look easier. No matter they are spectacular players
It’s true ……….. but this guy kicks balls in like it’s going out of style lol i don’t even hit the ball, so he’s outplaying me in all aspects 🤣
@ I’ll message you the kicking system Lil Chris showed and really helps me…
@@drewvonporte I like my kicking system. I go around and look at about the angle I want to hit the ball, then get down on the cue ball and hit it.
Nice match.
Thank you FVL 🤌🏼🤌🏼
LOVE U.P.!!!
Nice!!! Go STILLERS!!!
43:50 he could always... billiard... the 2.
How do you block someone from commenting? Asking for a friend
@@drewvonporte First, you admit you're an APA 5 according to some "analysis." Then you block them and move on.
Hard to believe he’s a 650.
You’re just jealous though, right??
Jk, that’s just a pun on your name! He was def not giving me his best game lol and def more casual about this match than I was being!! I came ready for war 🤣🤣🤣
Tell me about it, sometimes I find it hard to believe. I'm actually a 631 now, my reward for taking 2nd in a tourney last weekend. I like to say, my A game is 700, my C game is 300.
But I'm also there to have fun. I don't know how much fun it would have been if we didn't say a word to each other and walked up to the table and back all match. Either that or it's a long con and next time we play for $$$ LOL
Drew do you have a pinch shot?
Ehhhh…. If I do, it’s not great 😅😅
Never seen your video's, stumbled across this and enjoyed it.
So you’re saying I’m ugly
@@drewvonporte , no worries, I'm sure some like it. I always take another minimized browser tab and cover it up, just so I don't see the hand gestures and such.
@@KevinStewart33 You may want to avoid my videos then...I'm Italian and hands are a very important part of speaking lol
@@KevinStewart33 ya know… thats a decent point… i bet it’s a little more distracting when it’s at the Top of the screen, versus the Bottom… i will keep this in mind sir! Hopefully its still entertaining 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Oh! you're trying to slow roll shots more? Letting the natural roll happen... wonder where you learned that? Hmmm...
Lol I’ve been married to the slow-roll for awhile…. But yes, avoiding TOO MUCH CUE BALL MOVEMENT!!! Unnecessary!! Using easier patterns!!
@@drewvonporte Which might be part of why you're a self proclaimed better 8b player. 9 ball will require more cue movement most of the time.
@@Poolside_Chat He made me nervous on so many of those shots!
@ us mere mortals are learning. We will catch you one day!!
@@Poolside_Chat If you ever get a chance to play on the Predator 7ft tables, don't try to hold anything. Like, seriously, anything. I got dialed into them pretty fast but other people really struggled. By the time I had things figured out I was doing 5 rail leaves back and forth (the short way) across the table instead of either holding it or going 2-3 on other tables. Say no to slow rolls! haha
First
Wow thats a record my boyeeee!!!
