great day of fishing. thanks for the video. was wondering about the spider thread, seems to have helped. I was wondering if larger hook size would reduce chance of fish getting off. what do you think?
Well where I live, fishing season has ended. I've cleaned and put all my gear away. Might be able to start up again in April. It's going to be along winter. Oh, what beach where you on?
Hi PK . first thank you for making all those videos . I and my husband been watch All the videos you’ve been put out there . And actually tried surf fishing since October and November. But I caught nothing and my husband caught 3 little ones at October. We don’t know what we doing wrong not to catching perch 😭
Hi Rainier Poultry, not sure if you use that name because that is where you live, I do live in Rainier and I am wanting to try some surf fishing some day soon. Good luck fishing.
In case you guys still aren't having luck just remember the basics. Go an hour or two before and after high tide and move up and down the beach if you aren't gettin any bites to find where they're at. My best luck has always been with gulp camos.
Hey PK!! I’m new to surf fishing and I was wondering about the type of rod and reel you use? I’ve seen another video of yours talking about the setup, but wont the Light rod prevent you from casting far? I was thinking about this combo I saw at Dicks, Penn Fierce III, and it’s a Medium heavy rod with a 6000 reel… do you think that setup would be ideal for surf perch fishing as well? I live at the west coast too-Pismo Beach, CA. Thanks!!!
I use an old 8 1/2 foot rod I found in my grandpas garage with a old 3000 size reel. Really the only thing that’s important is that you have a soft tip and a good amount of backbone. Also braided line to help with sensitivity. A 6000 size reel is gonna give you a sore arm after a hour or so. Almost any rod meant for salmon fishing will work great.
The Okuma 9'6" will toss a 2 oz weight quite far. It's the rod I use besides my Tourney Trail. A 6000 reel is a little too big, for me. I use a Shimano 4000 size reel which works fine spooled with 20# braid. You can even use a 3000. And I don't use over a 2 oz weight. The Okuma 9'6" salmon rod paired with a size 3000/4000 Shimano Sedona is one of the best setup for surf fishing for redtails.
@@oregonlife Thank you so much for the info!! It really cleared up a lot of my concerns and gave me much more confidence in buying the right setup! But also if you have the time I have one more inquiry… I’ve watched all of your videos about the different kind of lures and setups you use to fish for surf perch, (and Berkeley Sandworm on the Hi-Lo rig seems to be the hands-down winner lol) and with these lures require the typical repetitive action of casting it out and reeling it in, while carefully working the bait… So my question is: is there any baits/lures I can use for a setup where I can just cast it, let it sit, and set my rod down in a holder and simply just wait for a bite? Ive heard some refer to this method as like the “Bait and Wait” type of fishing. But if there is a way to do this, what’s the baits and is the setup different? Thanks!
How long can you wait to gut Surf Perch? I live 2hrs away from the coast. Can just slit the throat to bleed it out in the cooler, then filet it when I get home without gutting?
According to ODFW, the Coos river system has the majority. Fish are in the Coquille and the Umpqua/Smith system. About 3 decades ago I was fishing in Tenmile Lake near Florence, and there were a number of boats anchored in an area of the lake fishing for stripers; the ad for the lake does not mention them, but Tenmile feeds into the ocean. Good luck.
Yea, too small. And I think you can't keep salmon from the surf in Oregon. I was using a barbed hook too, where barbless hook is required for ocean salmon.
@@oregonlife You can keep salmon from the surf if they are legal size and you have a tag. In the fall, some people in boats will work just out of the surf zone as the fish pool up to enter the bays.
Your awesome! My husband and I have been learning alot from your surf fishing here on the Oregon coast. Thank you
Yes, me too, I started watching PK a few years ago and have been Hooked!
13:38 salmon on a clam neck ❤
A salmon and a steelhead this year out the surf! That’s dope 🏆🎣🦀
Great video. Glad to be apart of this state with all the Amazing fish we can catch
Great video PK. I surfed fished in Cresent city ca a few weeks ago with no success. I'll have to try these tips.
I love your surf perch fishing videos and I miss them, the very first video I saw of yours was surf perch.
PK, Gulp has some great 2" pinched crawlers that are in a ziploc bag that work great when the bite is slow.
great day of fishing. thanks for the video. was wondering about the spider thread, seems to have helped. I was wondering if larger hook size would reduce chance of fish getting off. what do you think?
It's good to see all those smaller fish. They are the next generation to follow in their parents paths
good day on the surf PK. Keep up the videos.
Thanks PK for another great video! Miss the west coast
Good video! Real bait almost always out fishes plastic bait. prawn chunks, sand shrimp, clams, and mussels are my go to.

Would nightcrawlers work instead of the gulp pinched worms
Beautiful surf perch.
Hey PK ....wondering if you have any experience dungie fishing at Cannon Beach ? Maybe taking a trip up there! Thanks
Great video PK.
@Oregon Life
What action rod is that and what weight is it rated for?
You don't need to dry the gulp night crawler like you do the sand worms?
When you are fishing for surf perch It is perfectly legal to snag the surf perch It says right in to the rules and regulations
What a beautiful day.
So in one of your video you used power bait which one was it?
Tks Randy
It would be great if you told us which beach you are fishing, time of day/ tide

Can you tell me what beach you are fishing for perch?
Let's get it 💪
Brian caught 14; what was his best bait? Or is it more anything a mouth away from a surf perch regardless of bait is a bite??
He was using various baits from sandworm to fish bites, plus some 2" Gulp shrimp
Does squid work?
Gulp worms are great for trout

@@grant0410 interesting! So I’ll definitely look for a smaller reel. What is your rod strength?

steady👍
Catching a random steelhead. Very cool.
When you use the spider wire or spider line, we see you tie it, but don't see how you tie it off. How do you tie it off?
You don't, you wrap the spider thread over and over, I do it about 10 times, and then just snap off. it won't come undone.
How long can you wait to gut Surf Perch?
I live 2hrs away from the coast. Can just slit the throat to bleed it out in the cooler, then filet it when I get home without gutting?
2 hours is fine. Most of the time, I whack them and toss them in the cooler to be filleted at home. I recommend ice if you do that.
Which part of Oregon coast is best for stripers?

Have u ever tried to shark fish on the beach ?
Never. Haven't seen anyone do that in Oregon before.
Where is this location at?
Clam necks it is.
That salmon was too small to keep?

Awesome
Use the necks they stay on for a long time!
What part of the clam is the "neck" ?
Looked like a steelhead to me...nice

Your monetization is ridiculous. I was forced to watch two 30-seconds ads.
Sorry PK, but 30 seconds of commercials to start with = automatic thumbs down.
It feeds the Al Gore just the same. Pk deserves to get something for all of his hard work.
See ya moocher
