Instead of a true slowroll, it seems like Ivey can be doing this to make Blom think that he was really considering a fold with the second best straight on a three flush board so that Blom would be encouraged to continue making bluffs in spots that are kind of hopeless. I can picture Blom reacting to this by saying, "Well, if he actually had two pair or a set he mucks instantly, so overall bluff shoving in this spot is profitable," when in reality Ivey might in fact check/call some two pair hands in this spot simply because he knows Blom loves to bluff way too much. Other possibility is that Ivey was just away from his laptop for a minute. I don't think he can really consider getting so scared of the backdoor flush or QJ; if Blom has those hands it's just a cooler.
Tom Ford I don't care how much money you have when someone shoves 174 k into a 91 k pot when you only have 45 k invested and there's a flush possibility on board you aren't suppose to call with the straight.
Youre right. He was never folding that hand..... He only looses against a very unlickely runner runner flush or JQ and ivey had a Jack as a blocker too
Phil ivey is just having fun on that isildur shove because he traps him. Of course it wasnt a slowroll... There will be very small chances blom has a running flush or QJ cause ivey has J7 as a blocker. Great play mr ivey
idk if ur familiar with isildur.... but the thing is he also does this with the nuts here... thats kind of the entire point with this "play for stacks every hand ur in" that i feel is kind of isildurs thing :b and ofc this is always a call... but might feel diffirent when its a call for 100k + xd
@nikfom9 I never could but it would be fascinating to hear what Viktor Blom is thinking about these hands from A to Z. You could probably write 2 pages of thought process about every hand
i dont get why people saying its a sick call from ivey. I mean the only hand he scard of is queen jack and a runner runner flush... in fat im suprised this wasnt considered a slow roll!
It might look a pretty easy call for Ivey but the fact Isildur1 made overbet all-in on 3 clubs on the river gave Ivey a hard time. Therefore, it is not a slowroll.
My first instinct is that this was a slowroll even tough there are a few hands that beat Ivey. He needs to beat Isildur 40% of the time there to make it an OK call and obviously he beats him way more often than that given this is HU against a very agressive player.
+glennhagstedt He never has the nuts there. That bet indicates a bluff and a bluff only. Was a very weak play that I would expect from very bad players.
+Dennis Reynolds that bet indicates a bluff when it's made by an amateur!! these are pro, they know well what is the meaning of this bet on river, for this could be a trap.
Yeah it might be JQ, flush 7x or bluff. Before I saw the hand I knew isildur has a hand as J8 or Q9 or K9 believe me or not which i would almoat call even with only a ten. I really put ivey on Tx or two pairs not in that hand. And i think it was not a slowroll he was making fun of the hamd he trapped isildur and making as he had a top decision lol.... JQ he had a blocker with J7 which is unlickely also he beats 7x he only looses against a made flush which it would be very rare only combos of flushes are with 9's isildur wont had Q3 of clubs...
Ivey didnt slow role.... Viktor could have played it the same way with QJ, and either way its alot of fucking money so you better make every second count.
wtf are u talkin about a slowroll? dont u think ur missing the point somewhat? If i were contemplating a 174k call then I'd take my time, wouldnt u???? esp when he polarises range on river
Wow. All these videos I've seen is of Isildur losing. The amount of cash he must have in his bankroll must be insane considering he can lose $221 grand (and much more in some of the other videos) and not wind up a hobo on the streets begging for chance wondering where he went wrong. That's what a lot of people don't get when they call him a fish. When was the last time THEY had enough liquid assets to play at $200k games?
Since phil Ivey have a net worth of around 100 million nowadays. He maybe had around 50 back then. I don't know. However he was a pro at full tilt at that time and he got paid 1 million every months. So 200k isn't that much :/ Isildur1 could play with his whole bankroll. I don't know if this was before or after he won 5M from durr. Isildur1 was only 18_19 years in 2009 and you might be a bit reckless at that age. If I won 5M I'd quit and live good xD
***** Lols yeah you do make a good point. I too would have some fun with my cash but not nearly at that level of irrationality. I'd rather have fun but mostly invest my winnings into smart investments and what not. Perhaps the guy's style is extremely loose but some of the plays I've seen him make well it makes me wonder how he ever got a bankroll that large.
Isildur shove on river is such an amateur play. When you are weak and panic, just go all in. I was very sure Ivey had the draw postflop and likely hit it or a pair with continued draw. Isildur felt like he could have a pair, maybe an over pair, but when he shoved the river like that, it became very evident he was bluff shoving with a massive overbet to try and get a fold from Ivey. This was not a pro level and certainly not something I would expect from this high of a player.

+Dennis Vamos yeah except you apparently don't realize isildur dos the exact same thing with the nuts
Brett Sylvester From my understanding, he is down to nearly every player he plays. It seems the other players pick him apart every time unless the players are just agreeing to go all in every hand and playing bingo.
+Dennis Reynolds His style works against a lot of people, even with a good hand most people are gun shy about taking the risk of getting beat by the nuts for that kind of money. Of course many people think well why doesn't everyone play like that then, but it takes a certain kind of ice in your veins to be able to gamble that much money over and over knowing if someone calls you most likely lost
MrOmareffendy er no it doesn't. it's a polarising bet. he could easily have a very strong hand which he's mixing some bluffs in with and Q9 isn't a bad hand to do it with as he blocks the QJ and can credibly rep a flush and when he does have the nuts he's going to get paid. You're saying it could be a nice play only if he has a flush lol that's ridiculous. How can you over bet for value if you only do it with a made hand. you need to be balanced and this isn't a bad hand to bluff with you've got to look at the long run and not be results orientated.
Animals Be Crazy i was talking about this particular hand...i dont like the overbet in that hand.... off course he has to mix...cuz if he shove just when he has nothing or just when he has the nuts..it would be too easy to read..... i m not a big overbets fan anyway ...but i understand players like him can make them profitable..in this particular spot ivey checked the river cuz he knew isildur would do something like that and that s why i don t like it
So many micro stakes experts in the comments.
It's easy to call off every hand When fulll tilt is giving you millions of dollars of players money
tb fair though j7 a call on the river shove, whether FT gives phil money or heplays with his own. 🤷♂️
Thank you

Tom Ford Obviously Ivey is gonna balance it out. He will check raise his two pair sometimes and check call/induce other items.
Tom Ford I don't care how much money you have when someone shoves 174 k into a 91 k pot when you only have 45 k invested and there's a flush possibility on board you aren't suppose to call with the straight.

no. He just was thinking for 10 seconds on a 400k pot
Lol Ivey away from his laptop while hundreds of thousands of dollars is on the line no I think he is quite focused buddy
Ivey trapped him hahaha.
Phil ivey is just having fun on that isildur shove because he traps him. Of course it wasnt a slowroll... There will be very small chances blom has a running flush or QJ cause ivey has J7 as a blocker. Great play mr ivey
If you are playing for a living I hope you understand overbet bluffs. Blom has heart, can't deny that.

Well this de-escalated quickly.

Look at the chat box @ 0.38 "Isildur is Antonio Esfandiari"
Lol
OMG, i like... WOOOOOAH! subbed
you realize that was in no way a slow roll right?? isildurs shove was repping at least a j if not jq, and flushes ectr
Those are two very different things.
He stated that Ivey was the toughest opponent he ever played against
i dont get why people saying its a sick call from ivey. I mean the only hand he scard of is queen jack and a runner runner flush... in fat im suprised this wasnt considered a slow roll!
pure talent right here
lol what is doyle brunson doing in the rail? :D
he could have a flush its not slowroll, especially not when you play this kind of money

It might look a pretty easy call for Ivey but the fact Isildur1 made overbet all-in on 3 clubs on the river gave Ivey a hard time.
Therefore, it is not a slowroll.
its never a slow roll when you call an all in wut
oh sh 9 years old sorry to bother you
@nikfom9
it strikes me how often the high stakes guys bluff 2x pot with 2nd pair which has showdown value
My first instinct is that this was a slowroll even tough there are a few hands that beat Ivey. He needs to beat Isildur 40% of the time there to make it an OK call and obviously he beats him way more often than that given this is HU against a very agressive player.
10 yrs later and yes Isildur has to win with that 2x pot river bet at least 66% of the time, or 2 out of 3 times for it to be profitable.
1:39....I log off.
miss the full tilt days
CmHVACR yeah it was better then stars. The real full tilt not with stars running it.
whats the name of the song.? i love it :)

lol, absolutely not a slowroll, Viktor shoves 174k into 91k, he basically has the nuts or nothing.

Was that not a slow roll at the end by Ivey?
No...dumass
@stephenlandrum its phil ivey , he would obvsly fold if Isil had the flush thats fo sure
Bad time to bluff
its not second nuts, QJ would be so technically he did have something to worry about
@JiuJitsuislife
lol?he would fold if isildur had the flush?you get it yourself right?
no, he called because he had a straight.. i love how ppl like you say it so easily when you can see the cards
him being so out of control and unpredictable is part of his style tho right?
@mS28811 Yea but he was never folding
@ron126 I'm sure it's an easy call for you, $200,000 is an amount you can comfortably lose, right ?
how so? He has the 2nd nut straight and a flush is pretty unlikely.
He really didn't... Could easily have had the worse hand.
Ivey didnt slow role.... Viktor could have played it the same way with QJ, and either way its alot of fucking money so you better make every second count.
