I watch CNBC, and every so often they have Art Kashin on the phone, (a gentleman in his upper years, who used to be on their show). In March of 2009, when the S & P was in the 600m hundreds, he said that's the bottom, buy" which turned out to be amazing. All that said, each year, near the end of the year, the old floor guys at the NYSE trading floor get together and sing this song. If you have followed them for years, it is a very emotional time. I hope they are all there this year, and I'll probably get all wet eyed again! Art is a true American treasure!
@sarcip7x I don't know about Netflix, and I don't know where you live, but Birth of the Blues *is* on region 1 DVD, as a double feature with Blue Skies.
I enjoyed this performance, but the first time I recall ever hearing this song was from a movie by the same name. But it had a much slower tempo. Anyone know how it might be tagged on youtube?
@@johnpickford4222 Maybe by a titch but close to a tie? Mary was billed over Ethel in the celebrated TV Spectacular. Peter Pan, South Pacific and Sound of Music were as huge as anything Ethel ever did. Though Merman did beat out Mary for Annie. Mary's Broadway Caste album of Sound of Music was the #1 Billboard album of 1960!
Just Fabulous 🤩
Bing was the BEST VOICE EVER! Mary Martin was just as fantastic in her own right!!
Have you ever heard Pavarotti?
When great & classic TALENT WAS THE REAL DEAL❗👍
That was just wonderful. Young Mary Martin and Bing the Crooner. O love them both. Thank you so much, Nicoley.
My favourite version of this song.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
BING YOU ARE THE BEST.
Somebody please post the 1952 movie "Wait till the Sun Shines, Nellie." It's a really great movie! No kidding! 5 star!!!
Thanks again nicoley, I saw Bing sing this at the Palladium in 1976, and he sang just as good. Thanks for "The Friendly Mountains" too.
Wow
Bing was born to sing to the microphone.

It’s a classic alright. All the music in this film is outstanding
Written in 1905 by Harry von Tilzer.
@MrSnookerman147 Lucky! You're welcome again. :)
@sarcip7x She never really made it as a movie star, but I like her a lot. :)
She became a great Broadway star that introduced musicals like One touch of Venus South Pacific anf The Sound of music
Buddy Holly wait till the sun shines nellie

Mary Martin was the mother of Larry Hagman, wasn't she?
She was probably the biggest musical Broadway star ever. Her Peter Pan was the most viewed show in TV history at one point.
Yes she was
@@taddyd1 No, that title belonged to ETHEL MERMAN

I prefer the Buddy Holly version.
