Right? How bad would people have reacted if a straight guy tried to force a (seemingly) lesbian character to get with him then gets mad and says the same line the Sorceress did "it's a fantasy game sexuality doesn't exist so just get with me already" or something along those lines.
Amen to that!@@omnipresentl1316 I play D&D to have fun as an awesome and eloquent musician, or a sneak-thief with deft hands and a swift crossbow. I'm not playing to get pretend-laid or fake-married. That's why I ended up leaving my previous group. My DM was weirdly focused on relationships when role-playing, and it often dipped into the realm of ERP, which I just didn't want to participate in. For a specific example, I wrote that my character's fiancée died, and he spent every coin he had trying to resurrect her, dropping from pampered prince to paupered gutter rat in short order. He joins up with a group of adventurers so he can gather the gold for one last attempt, or die trying and meet her in the Everafter. After roughly two IRL years' worth of weekly sessions, the DM decides that our actions have bought five years of relative peace, and therefore a time skip. Imagine my surprise when suddenly my character has half his gold savings gone, and a Priestess from the local Temple is suddenly his wife and about to birth his second child. Yeah, the DM decided that my character would just *_get over_* his One True Love and marry whatever NPC I'd interacted the most with, all while spending nearly *_EIGHT THOUSAND GOLD_* on a house I never saw, furniture I never used, in a part of town I never visited, because my character had a room at the inn for the game up until that point, and the only four places we interacted with in town were the tavern/inn, the temple, the shop, and the local lord's manor. I had close to 16,000 gold from all the bounties, side quests, secondary objectives, and looting my character did, and he needed 25,000 for a True Resurrection, and while everyone else got to roll to see how much money they made during the Time Skip, the DM decided that my character would go back to acting like a nobleman now that he had some pocket change and just *_give up adventuring_* for five years to become a Priestess' house husband. We had a pretty large argument about it all, and after a month with no sessions, he finally promised me that he'd make things right. And then he had my character get kidnapped by the Goddess of Despair, where he was forced to watch said goddess r@₱€ and torture his fiancée's soul, only for his new priestess wife to somehow show up, send the Patron God of the BBEG flying, and rescue my character, in what amounted to a glorified cutscene/flashback explaining why my character decided to get married, and how our kids was gonna grow up to be so awesome that he'd slip the Second Coming and just be Jesus³. I'm sure you can tell why I didn't stick around after all that.
It's their entire identity so anything but praise and support feels like a personal attack to them. I remember when gays just wanted equal rights and to be left alone to live their life. Now, these young ones want to tell everyone else what to do and if you don't go along with everything they want, they'll attack you. It's why people, including homosexuals, are tired of the Alphabet mafia.
Grats, you met whats known in the normal world as a "woke leftist nutjob". There is no reasoning with it. They are 1 dimensional NPCs whos ONLY defining characteristic or "achievement" in life is what they identify as in fantasy land and what they choose to do in whats SUPPOSED to be their private time and no ones business. Best way to deal with these creatures is to tell it to shut up, and go away. Make Americans Feel Shame Again.
"She got to have a great character moment killing my character saying how she still loved her..." Am I the only one who immediately thought of all the stalkers who kill unrequited loves in real life? That isnt character development, that is the sex pest villain bringing abuse to ultimate completion.
That is a good point. Considering how the sorceress handled the situation, getting to kill the person that rejected her and being “right” about there being someone wrong with the person that did…. Is probably an unintentional reinforcement of bad behavior by the DM. The player and DM always assumed someone would fight them because they agreed ahead time this was a secret bbeg that betrays the party, but letting the sorceress get the kill specifically and a speech was probably a mistake.
@@lootgoblinmarketplace Your character never betrayed the party. Rather one of the party members went unhinged and tried to kill her, forcing her to defend herself.
Bruh, that woman needs a lobotomy. Holy shit, she needs some help for real. what would she actually do if she has a IRL friend who she was trying to freak with and it turned out she were not gay... yikes...
"You're a bigot for not being gay!" - "So you're saying that being gay is a choice?" "It's just fantasy, you're not actually gay!" - "Okay, well if it's just fantasy, why don't you role play a straight character?"
heh heh, reminds me of this one book where this guy has two angels come into his house and a bunch of gays try to break down the door so they can rape... what book? oh, just the bible. it predicts that LGBT-whatev, will try to rape eeeeveeerrrtthhhiiinnnnnggggg..... isn't that wacky, a book that predicts the true goals of LGBT is over 2000 years old?
Yeah the issue with the Sorceress, isn't her sexuality, it's that she's narcissistic and predatory. The existence of other people is not an attack on you.
Honestly, this is why I have gone over to Pathfinder. Everyone thinks it's the pits because of the writers, but there are so many dark things in that setting that I can gatekeep people away by sheer stress.
Her "sexuality" is a big part of it, seeing as how she made it her entire identity. There is one sexuality, everything else is a fetish or perversion of some sort, sometimes caused by biological issues.
@@TOUGHEYES Like the fey being absolute monsters like they are in real world lore? They literally sacrifice children and....uhhhh force their own kids on women if you catch my censored meaning to avoid the RUclips police. That's actual in game lore. Then there are the dragons who are hilarious in their own right because they are no longer weird wannabe humans they are just savage beasts gifted with intelligence but they lack any real culture or society. It's amazing honestly because they are kind of a take on that "a child who does not feel the warmth of the clan..." saying. They are smart, driven, ambitious, powerful and completely untethered to anything making them incredibly dangerous.
Yeah I tested this once on a woke stream. The abuse that came my way once I "apologised" was immense. Thing was that the whole argument was about guessing someone's accent origin. They even started getting threatening, the account i was using got hacked and suddenly I was the devil, was truly insane. 🤣🤦
They probably wouldn't bite from that, either. "You're only saying that because *you* started it." Gotta think like a child to *begin* to think like these people
many d&d dm sessions are trying to make money on the side. ( i knew a game shop running one ) . some people would be hard to just boot because they will make your reputation an absolute nightmare, just for being a different color or having a special flag. some will straight up bring police into it because " this was actually their main way of getting some bi-sexual booty " .. on a side note unrelated, a few in chatbot gpt when the creator took out a.i. sex, threatened to off themselves..
I feel like having a character with lots of negative traits can be really interesting, but at the same time, if it gets too out of character or if the players decide it's too far, they should tune it down or stop.
@@Kr33golaThis… I feel like this is a point so many are missing. The sorcerer’s behavior in-game was a projection of her real life behavior and ideology. I’d stake my life savings on it. This was a person that based their entire personality around their sexuality, hence why she was so pressed when an in-game character turned her in-game character down. She saw this as an affront to her real-life identity. The person that plays that sorcerer is a dog shit human. One who uses the plot armor of being LGBTQ to manipulate and gaslight others into supporting their worldview.
"It's a fantasy game so obviously that means you have to automatically make your character the most disgusting degen in the realm cuz it's fantasy." I wonder if the Sorceress player has ever tried roleplaying as a normal person. Probably can't even conceive of what that is at this point.
Are you talking about bg3? Edit: I don’t think so myself, I love the game btw, I’ve just seen other straight dudes complain about other male characters being after them but it’s so easy to turn them down and be done with😭
I was joining a group with another guy I didn't know a while ago and I introduced myself first and said that my only hard no is any sort of romance between my character and another player character and the other guy dipped. Later I learned he pm'd the DM and said I was talking about him because he was gay, I never met the guy nor talked to him before in my life, and went on a rant about how romance was part of the game and demanded I be kicked from the group and he will come back. The DM thanked me for helping him dodge a bullet and we are still in that campaign going strong. Great DM.
The guy that was gay was a narcissist. The world revolved around him, in his mind. Yes’m the DM and the group dodged a bullet. I ran into this at an Adventure League game. I’d been running the same table for almost a year. I had five core players that always sat at my table. A sixth player became a regular at my table. One of the girls at my table wanted me to kick the sixth person from the table. I told her I couldn’t do that as store policy stated I could only kick someone out for cheating, direct insults to players, of other similar issues. She just didn’t like the person. Since I couldn’t kick the sixth person out (I didn’t want to, he was a good player) and she kept causing drama at the table, I stopped DMing. I later returned, after she had stopped coming to the Game Store.

Agreed. Nothing my games usually goes further than some jokes, but if it does we just do a good old "fade to black". No, Johnny, i don't want to rp you having sex with my tavernkeeper, thank you very much!
Yep it is a that point as DM I would straight up tell the player you are meta gaming, please stop... if it continued then i'd give them a debuff, something basic like a -1 on all rolls for the day and just keep building till they stopped. Its tied to their patron is a great and completely valid excuse.
Insight isn't a lie detector, if you want that cast zone of truth, insight can get you more info but if you roll low it doesn't change what you already think.
@@megaslayer321a Of course Insight isn’t a lie detector, but it is used to give you more *Insight* into a situation. The thing is they were using it like a lie detector. They rolled Insight, and when they failed it’s as if the OP passed the lie detector, when it should actually be used to gauge what your character picks up on somebody. If you fail the Insight check it’s not like they get away with fooling you, but you do have to take the roll as the information it provides. This Insight roll gave the roller the *Insight* that OP didn’t know where their power came from. That should have been enough for the roller. Especially after multiple people in the party provided a fine explanation of, “maybe it was a patron power.”
I got a notification, but I don't see a post I made anywhere. Is RUclips sending me notifications for threads I never commented in, or are they shadowbanning me for some reason?
I have been playing D&D for 40 years. I have been bot a GM and a player. At no point in time has anyone I have played with wrapped their identity so tightly whit their character that they could not separate the two. Unfortunately, this illustrates the problem today that people are to wrapped up in identity. What happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"? When did it turn to people being so fragile that the spoken word alone can utterly destroy someone?
Gentle parenting and no father figure are the cause. Some parents were so gentle that their children never learned to accept a "no" and they told them 10 times a day ,that they are something special without telling their kids that they are "special to them" ,and not for the whole society
You probably know, there is a roleplay game called Space Station 13 It's a game about crew on, apparently, space station in future And I've seen fellas there who could be actually offended and have grudge personally on you because your security character arrested their character by the most peaceful way
I feel like these things often happen due to the queer community and other communities being a bit too sex positive. The anime community has similar issues.
And the really sad part is, these stories don't get told very often it's always the other way around, because the places where you post, these kinds of stories often remove them, because how dare you tell a true story about a person whose sexuality is their entire identity and personality being in the wrong
I agree. The sorceries meta gamed, I don’t allow that. I do care if you pull out the rule book, your PC doesn’t have the rule book. Second demanding, again out of character, that a player act in a certain way and then insulting the layer would be, “The game is over tonight.” I’d have to deal with the problem player, but not in front of everyone. I had a problem player, meta gaming, trying to control the game. I talked to him outside of the game but he did not stop. So, when I realized I was no longer enjoying the game I turned to him during one of his rants. “You are the GM now. I will not force people to choose between being your friend or mine.” I handed my GM notes over to him and left. The sad part was I never got back my notes. It was a Shadowrun game. I had blueprints of some tech they needed to find and learn about.
Eh, maybe a few chill outs. The whole “favoritism” bs was bs. Especially when dealing with plants. The DM runs the game. If you don’t trust the DM, then maybe you shouldn’t be in that group. Thinking of a time I had a character replaced by a doppelgänger-like creature as the character sat in a dungeon looking around at similar misfortunate characters in various states of decay. I brought the player aside, explained to him what had happened, what the creature knew, could do & intentions then had him play the monster. Sadly, he killed off most the party & the sole survivor wasn’t able to find the character & side session he wasn’t able to escape. But everyone enjoyed it & afterwards everyone was like, “you mean all those times y’all stepped aside you were already…no way…”.
it's sick that the predatory sorceress not only faced no consequences, but she also still got to force the character turned NPC boss into a 'love story' with the whole 'still love you' bullcrap ending. Basically, rewarding her toxic behavior
It shows the power of self delusion women have. No one wants to get in her way and face her wrath. If it was a dude ten different guys would be stepping in and challenging/mocking him.
This is why I will always support a PK. So tired of being accused of gene-of-side by not changing who I am, I'm suddenly all for giving them exactly what they insist I do (in-game, and rarely IRL).
I have a whole worldbuilding project for a DnD-compatible faction that is a prickly, complex mess to deal with, written with more gritty campaigns as well as a tool in the DM's back pocket for toxic parties/players in mind. The chittering hives full of armored, eight-limbed monstrosities are not all-consuming evils and will trade, barter, form alliances, uses relatively advanced tech, and have perfectly functional civilization in the depths... but they are still eight-limbed monstrosities with very limited levels of chill. On their turf, it's their way, the highway, or the kitchens - and not for working. Fortunately, they are not actually that hard to get along with, the secret is humility. It's not just about PKs, it's about sending a message. These critters could be a party's greatest allies due to their oddball sense of honor, even after a misunderstanding or two, or that very same party or player could wind up being grub food if they try to murderhobo or get too pushy for what is basically a eusocial society. After being dragged through the courts - they are _civilized,_ after all, just not as we know it.
@@mrosskneNo, DnD is a tabletop roleplaying game, it doesn't have rules for most things you can do in the game, outside of "roll for a check to do that thing." The rulebook doesn't literally say "roll for dexterity if you want to do seven backflips in a row and grab that knife out of your enemy's hands."
I've never played a table top game or anything like that, so what actually usually happens in this scenario? Because ultimately they are real people and I would imagine everyone in the room should feel comfortable with this? Do people pretend to have sex (vocally obviously)? Do people use it woo someone in real life that they like? How does it work? I'm not a shy man but I would feel awkward pretending to have sex with Dave, especially with loads of people just there. I'd feel awkward being one of them or am I just well off the mark here? Have I completely got the wrong idea here?
@@adrianinwinterWhile "fade to black" is probably the best policy to default to, it's definitely not the best policy for all groups. It still goes too far for _my_ taste (I just find RPG romance altogether uncomfortable), and even if you view the kink and obscenity as negatives, there are arguments that can be made for having the option to leave the lights on, even if it's an option that should be exercised rarely and cautiously.
"Your character having her advances, with literal statue, go nowhere is over, come with grief, and runs back to her mom's basement, never to be seen again!" (Except on Twitter) Now kindly gtfo of my house!
This is just a symptom of an even bigger issue. The Sorceress is obviously incapable of just letting it go, and is one of those people who doesn't know when to drop it. She mistook fantasy as "I can control things that I otherwise can't control in real life (people)." She has control issues, that's why she plays DnD, not as an escape, but because she wants an environment that bends to her will.
The sorcerer was hella entitled and should've been kicked out as soon as she was using her sexuality to blackmail other players into romancing her. Also, I feel like this type of entitlement is more and more common among younger generations who try to bypass the growing trend of healthy boundries and consent discussion with guilt tripping and slander. "Your preferences should fit me or you're a biggot" , even NPCs having preferences in games are attacked by weirdos. It's creepy and predatory if you think about it in a real life context. In a case like this, if someone would try to pressure me to change my references I would say something along the line " Even if my preferences would be optimal for you, you would'l still be ugly/have the personality of a drunk honey badger." 😂
yeah im always wondering "when the heck did we move from "you cant be gay" to "you HAVE to be gay" and where in the nine hells did the sweetspot in between those two points went?"
The unfortunate truth, as someone who is hella queer, is that a lot of gay culture happens in closed off echo chambers. It's a little chilling to watch people try to swing the pendulum back the other way, a community that was literally brought together by the sentiment "you can't do that!" now weaponizing the same sentiment against anybody who, frankly, isn't born that way. To imply that heterosexuals can choose to embrace gay ideals is to imply that being gay was a choose to start with. Anybody who thinks their sexuality "overrides" heterosexuality is saying that all the homophobia and hatred is justified, because it implies that it *actually is a deviant lifestyle people actively choose* instead of being what it is, just a different flavour of human being. It chills me mostly because nobody should know better that you CAN'T choose than the people who were forced into these echo chambers to start with, who were forced to create a comfort zone apart from the majority just to express their sexuality. I don't know if kids now think it's some sort of revenge move to label straight people as bigots if they won't cast aside their straightness, but it's sickening. It was always supposed to be about equality, not demonizing straight people.
@@mrroboshadow don’t worry we still have plenty of “you can’t be gay” it just comes from heterosexual trans women/men. As a gay guy being told I’m a bigot for saying trans men and gay men are incompatible is just humorous at this point.
This is exactly why I always make my characters as 'married.' I dont care for sexual encounters or relationships in my dnd playthroughs, the characters I make/introduce are my own personal stories and roleplay I've done in the past so they mean more to me than being a simple throwaway with no sentimental value.
It's all social power games. Become so annoying, aggressive and self righteous that mud wrestling these pigs feel like it will take way too much energy, then falling back on the fact that they have social political power - aka the invisible stares of the ever present, potential crowd of sorts - to make you scared to even try and wrestle them if you could. It's disgustingly collectivist and bully-like. It's just a gear shift from dominance and strength display bullying to social. We are in the activist teen girl phase of bullying and pretense.
Sorcereress sounds more like the bigot too me. Refusing too accept the other character's sexuality. Consent is still exist in fantasy too. Throw their logic back.
10:39 it's not "disconnect from character" it's disconnect from real life. She wasn't offended on behalf of her character, she was offended because someone didn't "validate" *her* sexuality.
This isn't a video game and she isn't romancing an npc. It's a real flesh and blood human being with their own thoughts, feelings and boundaries. Heck she'd probably be the first one to demand a player be ejected if they were continually coming on to her when she made it clear she wasn't interested.
She put her own sexuality in the game. That's creepy af. Sounds like she is not comfortable in her own sexuality and needs validation from others. She probably isn't bisexual, but says she is just to be part of the Alphabet mafia.
Me too! I have always just watch DnD never have had the opportunity to play (yet!) So getting a story of a game that is offline is refreshing in a way!
Being born straight is now bigotry somehow. Much like being born white is racist. The more we let these people control things, the worse everything gets. They will be very unhappy when the Chinese, or Russians, take over the US. First people to go will be those in the Alphabet mafia.
This DM needs to change his policy on PvP from just "Allowing it" to "Allowing it within reason", because the Sorceress has no good reason to immediately jump to death threats in-character towards the Warlock, someone who has helped out the party every step of the way (albeit to suit her own needs). All the Arcana check should've allowed was the initial suspicion and a possible investigation later, but nothing more.
I thought this as well. The sudden flip once the game start back up should have spurred up a warning from the DM, as it is an abrupt change in behavior. I will cut the DM some slack though, he was stated to be newer to the seat. The casting a higher level spell, and her recognizing that fact I agree, should be just suspicion that all was not as it seemed. But people are fallible and lapse more often into emotional thinking, rather than logical thinking. This is the crux of misunderstanding, and table conflict arises. After all, taking personal offense of things, and character/player bleed stems from the emotional.
@@Slowpoke3x, I agree. You either role play it out or you accept the dice roll. You don’t do both. I left a group because of this. The DM wanted the story to unfold his way. If we said we didn’t trust an NPC and we did an insight check, the DM flat out ignored the roll (natural 20 with + 7).
Agreed. That's the Meta gaming for you though. People need to understand its just a story. And it's more interesting to play by the rules of the story. After your game if you wanna talk meta go for it! But people need to separate the two when playing.
Been DM'ing since the 80's and we never had problems like this until recently. Stranger Things, Crit Role, and WOTC's targeted marketing made it fashionable to the masses and aimed to certain crowds. This brought in the tourists and crazies. Gate-keeping isn't a bad thing. Teach your kids the old ways. Ban and refuse to RP stupid BS. Hold the line.
1st, I loved TSR D&D, even if they did Gygax wrong. WotC & 3E was the big turn mid 90s where I went from seeing the occasional bad player to being in the extreme minority. 2. There were plenty of crazies in the 80s & 90s. For example, the first group I was invited to at college…I showed up & people were mostly dressed up & they were playing by candlelight. I said thanks for the invite & left. Every group I was in, moved a few times, we would kill the character of the new player first session to see how they handled it. We had the ones who would lean over and grab a new character or character sheet & start rolling; ones who’d take a moment, maybe hit the table in frustration, then follow in the path of the first type (I generally fell into this group); then you had the flip-outs, the ones who’d sweep the table, maybe even try to flip it, yelling & cursing, one even went to threats…basically, the last group was asked to leave & not return. From my intro to the game, I, & those I played with took it seriously, meaning we were running characters who were attempting heroics…meaning character deaths were not uncommon & TPKs were possible. Some campaigns even had the “bring 2 characters” caveats so you’d have a backup if yours died early on in a session. If someone was going to flip out, we’d rather learn in a scenario where others or even the rest of us aren’t feeling down/frustrated at character deaths. Still think back to my lowest level TPK. We were all between lvl 1-3. We were riding near an area we knew was frequented by giants. The DM wanted to try to get us to veer from the road to 1 side, away from the giants. A group of 3 giants spotted us & said hi with a thrown boulder landing just ahead of us. My character, who was in the rear & for some stupid reason felt heroic, yelled ahead “keep going, I’ll slow them down” as I turned my horse toward the giants. Shortly thereafter, taking cover behind my dead horse between shots, now 3 rounds after I engaged so sure the others were home free…I heard the others mention they were turning their horses to go & help me. A few rounds later the giants finished the last of us as I just had my head in my hands cursing my fellow players under my breath as they’d ruined the heroic moment of my character rendering the actions pointless. Not a moment I’d have wanted someone throwing a fit about their character dying…& sure, OOC I knew, had we all kept riding straight or veered as intended the DM wasn’t going to force us to fight an unwinnable encounter…but that only made it a bit worse in the moment. 3. Get the Crit Role, was fun to watch for a bit, but was never one to talk in a different voice, except maybe as DM to highlight some NPCs, & eventually got tired of it from professional voice actors, so, not sure I would’ve lasted long with normies.

@@shupichii9647 monster characters are ok, or were in the 80s & 90s, as the person playing a monster character accepted he’d need a disguise basically any time he wanted to enter a neutral/good village or town & that it is wiser in most cases to wait, hidden, on the outskirts. The others knew they wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms in a village/stronghold of that character’s race. Unlike these days where players expect an average town to be full of elves of all types, dwarves of all types, demons, devils, mind flayers, halflings and everything else all living in perfect harmony…part of the reason I quit decades ago when I PCS’d away from my last good group. Granted, don’t recall the book you mentioned, but many groups I played with allowed monster-characters, many of those times, the players changed characters when their character wasn’t universally trusted & accepted as they wanted; while a few found advantages & enjoyed the role with additional challenges. At least 2 died to my character’s blade when they showed they weren’t worthy of the trust granted in cases I might not have gone to blows with had a human, dwarf, elf… had done the same, but I played in character & if they didn’t jump at my offer to leave, they perished, both times with ho-hum, not sure I would kill him for that…but I get it…& get it with your character. Even in the average evil campaign, monster characters without glamour/disguise abilities will normally struggle more than others.
This happened to my character as well. I was called a bigot, even though we established to everyone beforehand that in the campaign that my character was a widower and his main goal was to bring his wife back. The other player was disgusted that my character refused their advances through the whole campaign(even though my character had refused the advances of the female characters, too). Later, the party was able to help my character bring back my characters wife and spoilers: my character slept with his recently resurrected wife. There was an argument above and below the table. The other player attacked my character's wife for my characters' rejection of their feelings, which the player stated they were going to do because my character was secretly gay and I was just being a bigot. My character ended up killing theirs for attacking my character's wife. This caused the player to call all of us bigots and homophobes because my character wouldn't sleep with them. Reminder: My character didn't sleep with the female characters who made similar advances in the campaign as well. I hate when people act like spoiled children.
As a gay guy, I don’t understand why’d they would be upset. Someone’s sexuality shouldn’t be so important to you, especially to the point it makes you upset. My orientation isn’t her fetish she gets to pick and choose.
Weirdo people like this always seem to ruin the games they are in with their horniness. I would have confronted her in front of EVERYONE about the confrontation that happened during the break and told her she needs to give a damn good in-game reason why her character is suddenly being extremely hostile. I would have also called her out on her own bigotry in front of everyone - frankly, I wouldn't have been nice about it. The Sorceress tried to shame the OP because they are straight and the her take on "this is fantasy, anything is allowed" only gave HER (the Sorceress's) permission to live out her preferences without care to the fantasy AND preferences of other players. Frankly, using an IRL argument to play one's character differently is metagaming.
No she was a fake character designed to push a political ideology... I mean I'm starting to understand how Trump thought Haitians ate cats if people are this stupid.
The proper way to respond to the argument, “It is fantasy and anything can happen,” is to agree. “Yes, anything can happen, an my character just happens to not want to sleep with your character.” If the persistence or insult you, leave.
This is why when I start running games. I am specifically going to tell my players that I don't do Romance 1. The DM should have been notified of an issue like this before the session restarted. @@gawainethefirst, that was the feeling I was getting from the Sorceries player. I don’t need that in my fun game play. This again comes down to the lack of experience of the DM. As soon as she pulled out the rule book I would have shut her down. I would have reminded her as a player she has access to the rule book her character doesn’t. If she insists on meta gaming, you will have to leave. My players know that when I say, “You’re meta gaming,” they have crossed a line and back off. I’ve even gotten to this point in my Adventure League games that it usually works. I have noticed the older players back me up and only younger players (under 30) try to keep going. But like the Barbarian player, my older players remind the meta gaming ones, that the DM has the final say in the game and what rules are allowed at their table.
I don't like to remove possibilities, but its always fade to black, and its always between consenting players, or NPC's, its honestly not hard to deal with, and any dispute between players can be handles as easy as: Player A comes up to you in private and says player B is doing X they don't like and you agree its unacceptable, or you yourself observe player B doing something you don't like You pull player B aside and in private explain that doing X can alienate some players and ask if they could avoid doing X in the future If player continues to do X, pull them aside, give them a final warning. If they do it again, politely tell them they are no longer welcome at the table. and that they have been warned multiple times. If what player A was complaining about player B doing, is actually acceptable at your table, you need to explain this to Player A, so that they can decide if they wish to continue on the table or not.
I know a gay girl who makes many of her female characters straight because... well why not? She just likes making characters, she doesn't make them to be a reflection of herself or anything they're their own people and she feels no need to make them gay and very few actually are
Forcing or coercing a character to have a sexual encounter with you, even in game, is sexual harassment at the least. When did we forget that "No" means "no?"
"You're a bigot!" Says the lady who's upset that someone's else's character isn't gay. Only a bigot would call another person a bigot if they were not interested. Also, never apologize to someone who is being a pain in the you know what to you.
I've been in games DM'ed by people who allow their own, out-of-chatacter, sexual desires to corrupt how the game functions (in your account, it wasn't the DM, but another player); it always sucks, & I never go along w/ it, letting my character be unfairly killed, if need be. You & the DM handled it well.
This tabletop horror story is a classic for me and a fun revisit. I really enjoyed how the DM and player rolled with the problems caused by sorceress, even if I don't like the updated resolution of her getting a satisfying roleplay ending after whining about false bigotry. While OP fell into the pit of unintentional favoritism (even if it was intended to have the party win in the end), sorceress getting her glory moment feels like rewarding an unrepentant stalker because their victim committed a lesser crime.
I disagree on the DM preferential treatment. What the DM did was for story reasons. And rewarding the obvious psychopath by giving her her stupid little moment in the sun was really stupid. You can't reward these people for their bad behavior; it just encourages them to continue behaving badly.
As a bi guy myself, let me say: a straight person not getting with a bi person of the same gender *does not* invalidate the second person’s bisexuality. Insisting otherwise, ironically enough, would be invalidating the first person’s heterosexuality.
But it's okay, because hetero people aren't valid. That's what I've been told and have learned. If going by what the Alphabet Mafia has said, NOT being some form of gay is wrong and needs to be snuffed out.
I'm glad to see there's some common sense about this. The LGBT community as a whole seems to have little to no respect for heterosexuality. I've heard from my bisexual fiancée that bisexuals tend to get a lot of vitriol from the LGBT community for being "straight-passing", getting accused of calling themselves bisexual for attention.
That mentality is downright predatory. Gaslighting and guilt-trapping (not tripping) to force someone into any form of gratification is particularly insidious.
Did i hear it wrong, or did OP's character roll a 20+ on deception, while Sorceress rolled a 7 on insight and then attacked OP? Had I been the DM, or a player for that matter, I would've questioned that action. I mean, Cthulhu-in-disguise gave a reasonable explanation as to why they managed to cast stonger spells, Sorceress should've eaten the excuses up like freshly baked cookies, but she attacked anyway? Why? What was the reason for the character's (not the player's) decision to attack her very believable "love interest" that just explained how they did it?
And why didn't the other members of the party try to stop it? After all, if one of your friends in RL started suddenly being paranoid and unhinged and physically attacks one of your other friends, wouldn't you try to stop them? The other characters wouldn't know what the sorceress's player knew, so her actions would appear crazy, and I think they would defend their comrade.
Because she didn't get her way and was throwing a tantrum regardless of role-playing or dice roles. She really should have been told to back off by the DM

I think the biggest reason it works is bc we play in a public place.

@@icemask6949 The way I understood it was that she kept it in-game with OP being unbothered all the way til that offer to sIeep with the guard. Then, the player confronted OP away from the DM before escalating things within the same session. So, from the DM's point of view, OP was not minding the roleplay, so stepping in would have been a bit too intrusive. That said, if I was wrong and the aggression continued more than half a session, I agree that the DM should have at least triple checked with OP that he's comfortable.

I’m a lesbian and I’ve noticed this trend of young people accusing people of bigotry for simply not being queer (note: this is very different than gatekeeping shipping two fictional characters together, i.e. saying Harry Potter can’t be gay). It’s okay to write a character or be heterosexual and it really bothers me when people claim it isn’t (just to preempt anyone says “this doesn’t happen”, I’ve seen this happen many times in tabletop spaces and it’s very weird)
Bi gal here, and yeah its becoming more common. I hate how this mindset of "if you don't date me, you're a bigot" spread so far. Like apathy does not equate to outright hatred. it's not unique to them. I noticed years ago that there are people who seem to believe that people making them uncomfortable just by existing as they are is an attack on them, so like transphobes perceiving the existence and/or presence of a trans person as an assault. I think a lot of these kids dislike the idea of people not being attracted to them and that makes them uncomfortable, and instead of just accepting it as it is, they lash out and call people names. it just shows emotional immaturity honestly.
I haven't seen this much at all beside random crazy people, but from what you've seen is it just that people say that about characters who aren't gay or something? I'm a bit curious when this stuff comes up

I've had kind of a similar situation. Not the abusive character demanding a relationship from another player, but a player flirting with the bad guy in disguise (who was an NPC). Bad guy had no interest in the player at all, but still got with her, and brainwashed / mind-puppeted her for the few sessions that were left before the big reveal. (luckily the player was experienced enough that I knew he would keep the situation secret). So in the end the players had one more fighter on their side in the end fight, and the boss had one more on his side, all due to a player flirting with the wrong guy...
Honestly the best way to do it in my opinion, avoids most drama... And if intimacy happens through natural result of relationships developing over the course of a campaign I personally always do a fade to black
When I ran games the characters had, where and when appropriate, a (or two, depending on the gender) black censored bar. One of the games evolved from high fantasy to ludicrous fantasy; in that particular game world, the bars started to actually exist. One of the characters, a half-orc barbarian, was kidnapped and managed to escape by taking off her shirt and beating her kidnapper to death with her censor bar. For years afterward, everyone who was at that table would laugh whenever one of the others would wiggle his or her shoulders...

I had no idea drama like this was even a thing in that hobby.
Such "players" need to be on a global DM blacklist. this goes beyond simply being a bad player, that can change if the player wants to. This is being actively malicious.
Well I wouldn’t go that far. The girl needs help, but the idea of a global ban list is a bit silly lol. I mean all you need is a tyrant of a DM and boom people be getting globally ban for shit they might not have done lol. God forbidden you make a character your party doesn’t like.
Especially given how global tabletop RPGing has become in the last few years, I definitely support some kind of "GM Beware" list for online players. Given that sites like Roll20 are not unknown for banning people for claims of "homophobia" Or other slander be it real or imagined. I think it's only a good idea to have a kind of list like this to protect ourselves from these kinds of malicious entitled players. Heck, in the freelance art world, they have buyer beware lists everywhere. If an artist is shady of hostile to the commissioner, you get put on that list. I think something similar for tabletop players online is not unreasonable in current year.

BG3 was a huge letdown having grown up with the predecessors. I couldn't focus on the game/story without sexuality being thrown at me. What really saddens me is that this is a hot take to most people. Just want a good game with a good story... like it used to be.
I have heard a ton of stories of people accidentally starting a romance chain with an NPC without really trying in BG3 simply by picking friendly options with the various followers. Definitely is a major part of the game and easy to get opted into the first few parts of the romance chain simply by wanting to help your companions.
Thankfully, if you're not opposed to modding the game, there are actually mods out there that will disable the romances, or at least make it so you can't access them through normal play. I know I have my game modded to change a few things to fit my preferences, and to boost the level cap. (Why they made it so you can hit max level before even getting into part 3, I will never understand.)
BG3 is my first BG game. I really like this game but that is one of the biggest problems I have with it. I was talking to Gale to figure out what power he was hiding and all of a sudden, he was leaning in for a kiss. I hate that part of the game. I'm on PS5, so until the limit romance options mod comes out, I have to walk around o eggshells in that game when I want to talk to any of my companions. EDIT: Apparently, I cannot edit "on eggshells" for some reason.
The game has many problems, this is just one of them. Having played through BG2 + ToB many times, and after 20+ years still remembering every one of my characters, this oh so Larian one was a huge disappointment. Could not stand it enough to finish it.

Something I've learned is that being aroace doesn't stop this from happening. When I'm not comfortable with certain pushes, if I describe myself as ace (don't matter if I include aro), I'm bombarded with "not all aces are like that" as if that invalidates that being ace means that I'm not attracted to people in that way.
The only one really in the wrong here is the Sorceress player. Not only was she pushing something the guy clearly didn't want to do but then she goes right to manipulation and wild accusations when she doesn't get her way almost sabotaging the whole plot because she's butthurt.
Nah everyone at the table was in the wrong. Especially the DM bc he clearly wanted to bang the sorceress' player IRL bc otherwise wtf didnt he stop this at the beginning?
I chalk that one up to DM inexperience. It takes years for a GM/DM to get to the point that they can juggle the different player personalities and the different character personalities. Toss in the rules lawyers, the meta gaming, along with just straight out power tripping as a player, and it is hard.
There was no favoritism between them because he wasn't playing a PC; he was playing boss monster in disguise that was meant to lose in the end. Also, the metagaming sex pest getting the final blow instead of the paldin who actually had an in-game reason to be in conflict with it was such bullshit. The DM should have just said, "No, you don't say that because you failed the roll, so you believe her." That was the only real instance of favoritism.
I love watching stuff like this. Makes me realize how absolutely stellar my group is. I wouldn't want to have anything to do with any of these disgusting people.
There is no such thing as 'reverse bigotry' - it is just bigotry that some people don't want to understand. People's inability to understand what they are partaking in is not an excuse for partaking in it.

I play D&D to have fun as an awesome and eloquent musician, or a sneak-thief with deft hands and a swift crossbow.

That is a good point. Considering how the sorceress handled the situation, getting to kill the person that rejected her and being “right” about there being someone wrong with the person that did…. @@megaslayer321a Of course Insight isn’t a lie detector, but it is used to give you more *Insight* into a situation. The thing is they were using it like a lie detector. Hello 911 & pulling out the 🔫 and saying back off freak
Sorseress is an automatic permanent ban.
No means no. Get enthusiast consent then roleplay romances.

Narcissist to the very end.
Yeah..
It's also worth noting that some players just aren't comfortable playing out in-game romances. Everyone's limits need to be respected.
DnD is a dungeon crawler. It doesn't have rules for romance, so it's not part of the game.
Fade to black is best practice.

Spot on.

I've been saying that for a long time. Gatekeeping is important, especially in d&d
Good Gatekeeping is important. Bad Gatekeeping is bad. As is no Gatekeeping.
Crazy.

The others knew they wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms in a village/stronghold of that character’s race.

I don't like to remove possibilities, but its always fade to black, and its always between consenting players, or NPC's, its honestly not hard to deal with, and any dispute between players can be handles as easy as:
Player A comes up to you in private and says player B is doing X they don't like and you agree its unacceptable, or you yourself observe player B doing something you don't like
You pull player B aside and in private explain that doing X can alienate some players and ask if they could avoid doing X in the future
If player continues to do X, pull them aside, give them a final warning. If they do it again, politely tell them they are no longer welcome at the table. and that they have been warned multiple times.
If what player A was complaining about player B doing, is actually acceptable at your table, you need to explain this to Player A, so that they can decide if they wish to continue on the table or not.

You've been to a Magical Realm? You have my pity.
"Sexuality doesn't exist."
"You are invalidating my sexuality."
Hm.
Everything is subjective!!! There are no objective standards!!! Morality and virtue are archaic concepts!
You're one of the good ones.
But it's okay, because hetero people aren't valid. That's what I've been told and have learned. If going by what the Alphabet Mafia has said, NOT being some form of gay is wrong and needs to be snuffed out.
@@eechee2979 Nah, they're just a rational human being. This has nothing to do with them being bi.

I was playing on when people say things like that to straight males.
I'm glad you noticed how problematic it sounds.
Don't forget that these people are coming for our lil'uns! Keep your woodchipper well maintained, and your lawn/garden lush.
That girl is the classic player who hates on people who say “that’s what my character would do”
Did i hear it wrong, or did OP's character roll a 20+ on deception, while Sorceress rolled a 7 on insight and then attacked OP?
Because female, surrounded by thirsty young nerds, can get away with pretty much anything most of the time.
Super weak DM
according to the story, the DM was on the newer side of things. odds are they just hadn't seen enough bull to know when to clamp down.

Im glad that we have avoided anything like this with the group I play with. We have a variety of ages in our group. We play in a public place so the oldest is in his 40s and the youngest looks 10 or 11. His mom found out that we held a public game, and asked if he could join. He sits there grinning the entire time. We are also a group with several different political and religious opinions. I think the biggest reason it works is bc we play in a public place.
The worst thing you can do with these people is tell them sorry.
Had a weird issue happen too where a gay dude kept hitting on someone who it was clearly making feel uncomfortable. when asked to tone it down and then outright stop he didnt. Became a huge issue but the gm sided with the gay dude and 4 people including myself quit the group.

Actually, relistening to it, it's a lot worse than I remember this chick got so mad that she couldn't date o p that she literally became a that guy to try and get him in trouble
Boot her on what grounds though? Like yeah, she was irritating to us, but OP let it happen, so there was concent.
@Maninawig the fact when she was denied a relationship, she not only turned into a that guy. But took an ingame problem out of game and lead to a massive argument which is rude because it's a dnd game and then started continuously harassing a player until pvp happened and even when the dm tried to stop it she ignored it and kept going again op might have been okay with it but for me? @@Maninawig
Boot her on the grounds that, if she were a straight male forcing herself on a female, this would have blown up a lot worse than it did.

It’s okay to write a character or be heterosexual and it really bothers me when people claim it isn’t (just to preempt anyone says “this doesn’t happen”, I’ve seen this happen many times in tabletop spaces and it’s very weird)

it's not unique to them.

My table is rated r when it comes to violence but pg when it comes to intimacy.
Honestly the best way to do it in my opinion, avoids most drama... And if intimacy happens through natural result of relationships developing over the course of a campaign I personally always do a fade to black
Best way to do it
Only time I'd make the session rated R, is DMing (or as the player) with a girlfriend.
If only I could get the girlfriend part done...

Most players dont like this, beyond some humorously brief moments of vague flirtation or NPC tomfoolery.
As someone who has never played D&D, or any other TTRPG and knows next to nothing about them, listening to this was fascinating. It was like watching some epic drama in another language with no subtitles, but with good enough physical acting and voice inflection that I can tell what's happening in the more emotional moments between characters but have no clue what the overall plot and setting are.
