its not because of kishore kumars powerful voice only. his sense of cinematic singing style was immense. he never sang which sounded artificial. he never compromised with the situation of the song and story which it is trying to say in the movie. rafi was always busy in showing off his singing skills in any song and it was amplified by sonu nigam who is always busy in giving harkats mindlessly. but kishore kumar analysed the song from the movie perspective and the expressions were true to the soul of the song. neither too artificial nor too less....as asha bhosle said in the BBC interview, kishore kumar was greater than rafi because kishore kumar always sang using his heart AND mind.

Jatinji, I am a bengali from Kolkata. But I am a Jazz lover. This is because of one person, RD Burman. He has opened my vista to the world of Jazz. Before that I was a fan of Faiyaz Khan, the greatest musician of India. Jatinji, I've heard your works since my adolescent days & appreciated them as a true holder of the legacy created by RDB. I am 52 years young and this evening also I was listening to your "Return of Jewel Thief"s title song over my peg of whiskey. You have understood Rd so well that I'm sure you did it so well as his own child could do. Recently I have been following the the baseline of the song - "Raat ne rang jamaya hai" from the film "Chalta Purza" several times. I came to a conclusion that if the base player is Tony Vaz then he is the best base player the world has ever seen. And RD was the mentor, the Guru of all those musicians, of those unsung heroes.

@@rmjhyd7906 I consider Md Rafi better than Kishore Kumar because he was trained in very hardcore classical music. And a musically illeterate person will only say that Kishore Kumar was better than Md Rafi because they don't even have any knowledge of classical music, they just know what a bollywood song sounds like and western song sounds like. Md Rafi was one of the most trained vocals who was the most hardworking singer as he didn't had any such so called god gifted talent, and if anyone was near to Md Rafi in bollywood then it would be only Manna Dey.

Very true. Aradhana credits S.D. Burman as composer, but one can feel it had immense contributions from RDB as it can be apprehended from the genre of the compositions.
Similar is the case with another film BAROOD which seemingly has great influence of RDB.
Both baap / beta are of immense caliber but has totally different style of compositions, different genres altogether.
Hats off to both the Burmans.

You are RD Burman’s torchbearer. Period. Thanks to you, the 90s melodies will also age beautifully like RDs compositions. Unfortunately, those beautiful melodies have disappeared from Bollywood following your departure and compositions have become tasteless these days. We need a revival, more like a revolution to bring back the golden era.

With due respect Mt. Jatin, you may be unware of the fact that Kalaynji-Anandji had been trying to get Kishore to sing for them way before Aradhana but he (Kishore) was only interested to sing for Sachinda and Pancham (Being Sachinda's son) and that was happened with Kishore. Sachainda's sudden ailment made Panchamda in charge who was quite fond of Kishore's voice had decided to gave the assignment of singing rest of the numbers by Kishore that were supposed be sung by Rafi (he had already sung Gunguna Rahe Hain and Baag Mein Bahar).

Kishore da always wanted to be a singer. But being Ashok Kumar`s brother he was pushed into being an actor. During late fifties to early sixties, he was one of the top actors giving many hit films. As a singer, he sang for his own films and for Dev Anand via SD Burman. He did not sing playback for anybody else. SD Burman always used Kishore and Rafi equally. Upto the fifties there was no male singer dominating the industry ( apart from Saigal ) but in the sixties Rafi dominated. Kishore had personal problems and his films did not do well in the sixties. In the late sixties, Kishore da stepped back from acting and started concentrating on playback singing. Then Aradhana and Rajesh Khanna happened and the rest is history. Its unfair to compare the other singers with Kishore da because Kishore da was a genius. Lata ji and Rafi saab were better singers but Kishore da had more impact in his songs. His composing and lyrical genius have helped him give inputs to many of the songs he sang making them into superhits. Also, along with Hemant da, Kishore had the best voice among the male singers but his voice was more powerful.

Thanks Jatin Sir for sharing such wonderful info. Infact now a days we are missing PanchamDa's music and his melody. It's is only you who can recreate Panchamda magic again, his use of instruments such as Guitar,tumba and drums. We are missing use of such instruments in today's music. If possible please create some song using these musical instruments.
Coming to the song that you have mentioned from movie baharon ki sapne, if i am not wrong then the song AAJA RE AAJA SAJNA from movie Return of Jewel Thief is inspired by this.

Amazing! Somewhere I had read that SDB was extremely strict and he even groomed RDB in blatantly criticising him during the recoding of the song - hum bedkhudi mein by Rafijee - and then RDB never looked back after his conditioning from the movie as an arranger in Pyaasa - secondly it was worth mentioning that kishorda was also a composer - aa chal ke tujhe, mai le ke chalu which is composed in year 1964, so kishorda was equally conditioned as a composer as well , and guess the secret sauce was instantly created when these 4 pillars of masters met to create a history with Aradhana in 1969 - SDB then used to a subtle corrector of RDB
