This news report erred in reporting monthly dues of $33.. That amount is indicative of an annual amount; a once a year payment. However, based upon one's age at the end of a year, a member could achieve Life Membership (a one-time payment of $45, plus 11 monthly payments, from $15.45 to $38.64), and NEVER have to pay dues again...EVER.
Asking visitors and prospective members to introduce themselves at meetings would go a long way in breaking the ice. Vet organizations in general seem to have a weak and inactive social media presence which doesn't help their membership and publicity.
My husband retired after 23 years not in a foreign war. The VFW should take any Retired member at this point , yes we have his fathers DD 214 but it’s bull that he needs his dads form to be a member . They need to change their rules. This is why he won’t join.
Why can't the VFW open up membership to all those men who were deployed along and near the former 1-KZONE and the Iron Curtain who had a combat MOS to be allowed to join the VFW? What would be so terrible about that?
Declining VFW membership is a basic math problem. Military conflicts don’t send the amount of service members into combat as they did in the past. Also, in any business model, if you don’t evolve, you go extinct. On a positive note, less combat veterans = less combat. I’m good with that!
@Connor If that was the case, then why did the U.S. have to keep all those U.S. Ground Forces deployed along the the then, 1-kzone? Why did American Troops have to be there in the first place? There had to be reasons why they kept us "deployed" there. But nobody has a logical answer for that!

No, VFW is exclusive for veterans who deployed overseas (hence the term "Foreign Wars"). But don't worry though, as there are other American veteran orgs you can join, namely the American Legion.

The pricing they gave is per year, not per month.
Membership for those who did not serve on Foreign Soil is available thru the Auxiliary.

The price they gave is not totally accurate. Each post has their own dues for the year. I apologize for the misunderstanding

You can join as long as you are not a Vietnam Veteran, then you are refused.

So I did 7 years In the military In the national guard and reserves but I never was deployed can I join
