CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!!!....Saw this marvelous! movie for the first time in Nigeria, as a 12yr old kid, curled up in front of the television in my father's house...(RIP Daddy)...I could and can sing some of the songs phonetically, which amazed my family members LOL!.. Such a beautiful! on screen chemistry between the 2 leading ladies and Rishi Ji. The Kapoors just have that naturally, it seems. If you have seen his uncle Shashi Ji in "Satyam Shivam Sundaram," burning up the screen with intense chemistry alongside Zeenat Aman, you definitely know what I mean. I met Rishi Kapoor at Santa Cruz Airpot in Bombay years and years ago. I had gone there with my younger brother to meet my older brother who coming from abroad. Randhir/Rishi Kapoor went to the same school as my brothers. My brother introduced me to Rishi and he then took us to meet his family. I met Raj Kapoor his wife Krishna, his father Prithviraj Kapoor, Randhir/Rajiv and Rita. That was the most memorable day for me. Rishi was the same age as my older brother. When Rishi died it was like I lost my brother all over again who died at the age of 40. Now they are both together and May they both Rest In Peace
This movie was a FLOP when it released in the Summer of 1982. Did less than average business. And yet I found it to be one of the most beautiful movies made at that time. As time passed YWR hai has become one of the Classics of India with a fantastic fan following and has become an iconic movie of Indian Cinema. Loved by all.

Besides the exceptional soundtrack, the combination of Tina Munim’s performance and Jaya Bhaduri’s voice is what really made the second half of this film, especially the ending, my favorite! Loved the use of two differently shot versions of Yeh Vaada Raha during that shift from “Sunita” to “Kusum” to show her accepting her new appearance and becoming more confident in herself again! The emotional impact of the scenes Tina Munim had with both Rishi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor was immense, really emphasized how it’s not the external beauty that matters, but the beauty of the soul!

Tina Munim has acted very well in this movie. She didn't know how to act in her earlier movies and used to be quite wooden, but the director here extracted a good performance from her. Of course the dubbing for both actresses, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim, was done by Jaya Bhaduri, so you hear Jaya ji's voice for both. What struck me in this movie was that the director took extremely fair complexioned main characters!! Rishi Kapoor, Poonam, Raakhee, Shammi Kapoor, Sarika, Tina.......but of course skin colour does not define beauty.

This movie was my whole childhood in America! Rishji will always be one of my favorites forever! So effortlessly talented! His last name didn't make him famous... He did! Poonam was my big crush at the time, but I don't like how everyone is praising her looks and not Tina. Tina was stunning and so modern that I always admired and looked up to her. But I truly loved everyone in this: Shammi, Rahkee, Sarika, Iftikar, Rakesh Bedi! So much love and regard for Rishiji. Such a huge loss!

Tina Munim has acted very well in this movie. She didn't know how to act in her earlier movies and used to be quite wooden, but the director here extracted a good performance from her. Of course the dubbing for both actresses, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim, was done by Jaya Bhaduri, so you hear Jaya ji's voice for both. What struck me in this movie was that the director took extremely fair complexioned main characters!! Rishi Kapoor, Poonam, Raakhee, Shammi Kapoor, Sarika, Tina.......but of course skin colour does not define beauty.

How did they put so much emotions into this film? In the song "mil gayi aj" look at the pain in Rishi Kapoor's eyes to find his Suneeta. It's so real😢 I find Rishi Kapoor very underrated. He was amazing in this film

My childhood, the last time I saw this movie was about 30 years ago, but I watched it so much that I still remember all the songs and dialogue, I wish this had sub titles so other people can enjoy it the way I did as a child.
