- I received a message on discord from someone asking if I could help them find a friend they hadn't spoken with in a while. The task seemed innocent enough at first, but ended up being one of the most mysterious and darkest rabbit holes I've ever investigated. What happened to Alex? This is finding a minecraft player who doesn't exist.

This is a series called Minecraft VVSauce where I explore random features of Minecraft. Not Secret Minecraft things or Minecraft lore (like Game Theory) or Escape Rooms, but a scary arg based series. The footage in this video isn't of a real person, an ARG is a story that's known to be fictional but we all pretend it's real and try to solve the mystery that the owner of this channel created. Such is the life of an ARG hunter. Very scary very creepy. BOO!

Alex suddenly waking up and being in his 30s would be such a crazy thing. Strapped to an IV, a minecraft launcher in front of you, in a strange and foreign room, with zero memories of what's just happened, it would be horrible.

This has to be my favorite ARG ever. I had fallen asleep while watching other ARG videos at 3 am. I then woke up 30 minutes later, to the voice message in the video. I then restarted it and watched it from the beginning and was hooked. The small detail of going insane because of the case, makes you start to feel insane as well. The point of becoming actually insane and joining the ARG is a thing I didn't expect while watching.
9:39 fun fact, that fast set of noises is actually a common bug in some of the older versions of minecraft where if you walk on the edge of the block, the sound doesn't play until you fully step on a block to make the noise, causing all the noises to play in rapid succession
Nostalgic. The staircase to my mine was lined with every block I could find just to hear the multitude of step sounds play all at once.

The idea that the audience has to finish all of this is the icing on the cake. Definitely one of the most amazing ARGs I've ever seen.

Actually seeing Alex still mining the same bedrock in realtime, showing how long he’s been at it, is terrifying and a great end to the arg. Actually being able to go ingame and SEE the effect these people had on Alex.. it brings it all together so nicely.

What an amazing ARG! I got worried when the D.M.S footage was shown because I thought it'd just fall down the typical tropes of analog horror, but I was wrong! This was a magnificently crafted piece of Minecraft media and having Wifies involved in it was the cherry on top!

I like how halfway through the video, Wifies started to sound nervous/sad like he's very invested on saving Alex. You can hear him stuttering and speak in an anxious tone.
Another thing I want to point out is when he said "he's free" to Crafty without a capital, unlike before when he typed with capitals. Like he's affected by this case.
Also I find it poetic when he didn't delete the email from ArchIve, but instead, he "archived" it.
But maybe I'm just yapping and overanalysing stuff.

I love these types of minecraft ARGs. They are so well worked on. The story is clean and the fact you can actually log in as a part of the story, the abondones server being dark and left behind with the things still inside the chests, seeing Alex actually digging in real time... It is TERRIFYING. And that is something I am looking for in a good ARG. Amazing job.

The burning trees at 10:35 are actually fairly normal for older versions of minecraft. Sometimes fire, usually on the tops of blocks, would just stop spreading and burn in one place perpetually. It was actually nearly impossible to fully burn down a forest because fire spread was so glitchy. I remember I used to use this to make fireplaces before netherrack was introduced or easy to get.
My bedrock world has the trees constantly burning leaves on top like the leaves are netherrack... it gets kind of creepy when I have to clear the area of mobs and I look up to see the entire forest 'burning' and never actually burning up

Wifies was associated with the ARG in some capacity and they did make it together. We know that because of the .gov link in the video. No ARG creator can get a .gov link so Wifies must’ve added it to increase immersion but for me it broke the immersion because I realised that Wifies also had a part in making the ARG
I like that this kinda has a happy ending. Most ARGs I watch are incomplete or need more research to be done, but not only was this on finished, you even freed Alex. I was already worried when i could hear in your voice how this situation was affecting you, so when you went onto the server, I was scared you were gonna become like Alex, but then you forced the server to stop and it actually made me so happy and giddy. You're a really good actor, a really good storyteller, and this whole video is just amazing. Im adding this to my "means the world to me" playlist, I love this video.

@Ayan-yy2we It's a type of genre of video people make, where the story isn't easily identifiable. It's up to the audience to find pieces inside of a video and make out the story with them, being interactive in many ways. There are ones, like this one, which are actually really good [which just goes to show how good Wifies is at making these], but typically, people tend to think that a scary video that doesn't have a clear story is "an ARG" which is just wrong. A lot of Gmod channels that people like Richter cover, aren't really ARGs. They're just creepy videos, but there's zero audience interaction.

Well, sort of happy ending. We really do not know what happened to Alex afterwards. My guess is his body expired after being tortured for so long though so its best we dont learn.

I actually like the idea of there being an "evil organization" whose plans you disrupt, but instead of immediately seeking revenge they recognize your gumption in exposing their weaknesses and essentially make you "their permanent enemy".
Moreorless, but I get the feeling that this might not be the last time Wifies will cross paths with ArchIve/the DMS, depends on what ARG's Wifies finds.

Im honestly impressed with how they pulled off the DMS docs, I honestly thought it was gonna be explained as some supernatural organization, which frankly i think is rather played out at this point, (and it still might be, i dunno) but after reading it, it feels more like an actual thing you'd read from some MKULTRA documents. it was quite refreshing honestly.
Also I enjoy the fact that Minecraft wasn't really a central aspect of the narrative too.
I see a lot of other Minecraft ARG's where it can only really happen in the game, whereas in this, it was the main game they played, but this is largely a conspiratorial thriller about government mind control programs, and they just so happened to be playing Minecraft. It gives the story a much more "grand" feeling to it and better connects it to the real world, IMO.

that was by far the most unique and incredible minecraft ARG I've seen, the use of that cipher, how it didn't just fall apart at the government part, every step actually needing the audience to figure out how to get to the next step, and at the end with the server being real, alex still playing, and the last email, really ties it all together.

Man, i love Minecraft mysteries (sometimes, solved and unsolved in which give me less horror vibes). I know sometimes people think it's usually fake, but in my opinion, I thank Wifies for entertaining us with mysterious Minecraft content with unsolved mysteries that make us to solve or to theorize about all the mysterious Minecraft contents.

I can tell you, this is the best minecraft arg ive seen so far. It even lets you to be able to witness and experience the entire arg, like how in the end you could enter the world and meet alex yourself.
Probably one of the best and well put together Minecraft ARG's ive seen in a while.
I like the use of the heavily corrupted client for that bit where it looked like Alex's game was breaking down. That was a nice touch. And to have his account just sitting there, clicking bedrock to make it seem like he's been doing nothing but that for a while really carried home the idea that he's been stuck in a mind game for all this time. 10/10 production.

Alex's predicament is honestly a terrifying concept. Over the course of likely just a week he was constantly being subtly manipulated, intimidated, and ultimately turned into a mindless drone for 15 WHOLE YEARS; almost half of his lost as a part of some sick brainwashing experiment. To think that all of this was because he wanted to play on a new minecraft server after work is a terrifying and saddening thought.
Yeah...dude probably just wanted to unwind and play with friends, and he was stripped away from his friends forever to live in constant agony. Horrific. At least he's seemingly free for real or put out of his misery now.

This is all ARG but the amount of effort - ArchIve documents, websites, emails, audio recordings etc gave me the feeling that it may be real. I know it is not real, but all these stuff are so damn well made. The only thing that breaks the "immersion" for me is the DMS logo.

One of the best developed ARGs I've seen, most usually stop at one channels and a few creepy-ish videos. This is an example of an ARG that goes above an beyond by have us go through multiple channels and a bunch of ciphers, while keeping us invested in the story the entire time; using a "monster" character as a story-telling tool rather than the entire premise. Good Job! Really enjoyed the video!

genuinely, best arg i’ve seen. this has to be my fav in general sitting right next to walten files (my opinion.) It was actually pretty terrifying as well as being emotional at the same time. I love the fact that you actually save Alex, and especially still mining as if he was lifeless, practically possessed. It’s terrifying and amazing, bravo 👏👏👏

Players who don't exist are one of the most enduring mysteries of Minecraft to date. It's very much comparable to the Bot Swarms of Team Fortress 2 or World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood Incident. These unknown, mysterious players existing in the outside realm as Alex (to my knowlidge) is one of many players to choose from aside from Steve when you first start Minecraft. The fact that there's a MYSTERY PLAYER named Alex is pure coincidence.

While this was alright, i honestly didn't like how there are an unfathomable amount of unanswered questions, "Did the DMS release alex after the server was closed? (remember, alex IS in their possession, how do you think the food and water gets to them?)", "Did alex ever see the aftermath? Did alex and crafty reunite? (or even did alex reunite with their mom)", and even "did crafty even understand what the hell you meant?" are all unanswered questions, if anything, the ending made more questions instead of answering them :((edit: just realised this is a sequel to another video, you should really make another one :D (maybe tie up the loose ends from this one))
I think the focus on "Kill Command" shows that Alex died. He became utterly reliant on Minecraft and died with the server.
Boy, this was something ELSE. Watching the video creator actually be involved as a character in the ARG was a stroke of genius. And we got a satisying conculsion, which is more than can be said for a lot of ARGs. Damn fine work on this one.

This is extremely similar to a Minecraft Bedrock phenomenon known as the "Stripelands", which are its equivalent to Java's earlier "Farlands". As a result of floating point breakdown, block collision and geometry, along with entity collision, are warped the further out you move from 0, 0.
Entity geometry, block placement, and other renderers, however, are still fine on Bedrock Edition.
Given these differences, along with this variant existing on Java edition, I hereby dub this place as the "Corrupted Stripelands".

For me, i keep getting hooked on the internet , and my fear of missing out or not reciving new information is similar to the usage of fear, just not exactly the same type of fear. This is so obviously fake it's comedic. I spotted it immediately like 5 minutes into the video because I actually play Minecraft a bunch, so I know compasses in Minecraft don't point north, despite the F3 menu having a north direction - they point to 0, 0, also known as spawn.
What a crazy coincidence that both the ARG creator and wifies had the same misconception about Minecraft compasses that can easily be disproven with a 10 second Google search
