@RupertWoo I didn't know there is such a thing as commercially available steel yehu strings. Usually violin strings or erhu strings are too short. I got plain silk string from Yuet Wah in Hong Kong via mail order (they have three thicknesses available, I think called zi xian, zhong xian, and lao xian, something like that). They're not expensive at that store. I also use them on my qinqin (meihua qin).
@RupertWoo Thank you; for mine I use a cello A string for the low (inside) string, and a steel hammered dulcimer string for the high (outside string). Recently I took them off to put some silk strings on to play Chaozhou music, and I was very surprised at how quiet they were. I think the instrument got used to having the stronger strings on it.
I live in Hong Kong and therefore i can easily buy the string for yehu....... dan gao is musical instrument of Vietnam, yehu is from China, i don't know whether the string can be shared....

There are very few videos of this instrument, and it's great that an excellent huqin player like you devotes his effort to the yehu, which to me is neglected but a noble instrument. Can you tell me what kind of strings you use? It can be a challenge to make yehu have a smooth sound.
