    This was so excellent! Took many notes. I am grieved at William’s passing. What a loss to the field! Who will carry his torch and does as good a job?

    Re: compound sentences. OWL and other sources are more flexible with the comma-conjunction than William here. My guideline is "two short independent clauses do not need a comma unless the coordinating conjunction is 'but.'" "I like his presentation and I love his ideas" needs no comma.

      Actually, it does. Not putting the comma there is a rhetorical choice, but technically (and the ACT certainly tests this), it needs a comma
