  • I'm so glad to be summer sewing again! Summer sewing is easily my favorite type of sewing, so let's make some sun dresses and linen pants :) Today we are making the Champagne Field Dress & the Pomona Pants! The Pomona Pants specifically is one of my FAVORITE patterns to make, and I can already tell that the CFD is also on that list! Patterns are linked below if you're interested. I'll see you in episode 2!

well, i just found you and was really getting into the whole thing, love the dress and can imagine it being a garden dress. I do sew but honestly only have sewn bags and doll clothes. I just can't get myself to sew items for myself. But having other hobbies I tend to spend my extra money on them instead of the fabric i'd need which is more than fat quarters and scraps that you would need for doll clothing. So I just watch a few sewing channels, and yours has been the first I've found that was just what I was looking for, sewing and chatting etc . My favorite channels are when people mix crafts also, talk about more than one topic but apparently going with what those podcasters say it appears that not many are like me so don't listen to me do the opposite, or just be you though I get you're trying to make money so it's important to figure out what the majority wants.

Thanks so much for watching and I’m really glad my channel resonated with you in that way! I’m exactly the same way - so many sewing channels are straight to business and all about instruction and I really prefer to just chat through things. It doesn’t get me as many clicks, but I feel like it’s more true to who I am so I’m glad you found me ☺️

I love vloggy style videos! I don't really mind short or long videos but I do really like how this is kind of all over the place lmao, it's so relatable and less "professional"?. Basically a journey and not a straight forward how-to video yknow?

Longer videos are my favorite, I'm not a sewer but I really enjoy watching (maybe one day I'll pick it up) I am a crocheter and one thing I hear all the time is "mistakes" makes it one of a kind, some people intentionally make a "mistake" for that reason. I dunno makes me feel better knowing my projects don't have to be "perfect". The dress turned out beautifully, great job! Can't wait for the next video!

I also used to only pre-wash fabric when I used it, but over time I got so confused that I couldn't remember which fabric has been pre-washed and which don't in my stash. So one day I just chucked everything in the wash and since then, I always pre-wash my fabric right when it enters my home. That way it's always ready to go! Thank you for this video, it's so interesting to see your process. The clothes turned out very cute, I love the herbal dress! Would totally wear that!

I’m a beginner in sewing but the #1 rule I have learned is you wash the fabric before sewing if you are making clothes but you don’t if you are quilting. You wait to wash the quilt when finished so all the fabric, thread and wading shrink together.
I love the pants!! I have some cotton lawn fabric that I want to make a pair of pants. I have never made a garment but I looked up a beginner’s pattern. I do have some fabric that I can use as a mock up.
Getting into a slump of any kind is normal so taking a break is a plan. Just play and enjoy life then the inspiration will come. I heard you can get it from anywhere. I’m live in West Tennessee so I understand the heat and how suffocating it can be. Take care and hydrated.
I have a sewing table that will help me sit straight up. I use to work in an office and that is a point that they press that we sit straight and move around and look into the distance from time to time.

  • @MaddieMettler

My go-to is to immediately pre wash fabric as soon as a bring it home rather than waiting! I’ve been burned too many times by the same issue of wanting to sit down and sew but the fabric not being washed

You are taking the same path as I did as a young sewer. Skip what you decide isn’t necessary. As you have matured, you add this things in and wow! Who’da thunk, they do make a difference. Such a cute pair of pants and dress.
    Love this video.

I love your sewing videos! I liked the blog style long form ones because I feel like it really shows the process. One of my favorite things about your channel is how much it feels like how my projects go, when you want to start but you have to do 10 things first! I feel like we think very similarly and watching you do projects feels so helpful for me!

I'm a year late to the chat haha but I'm making the pomona pants now and the leg seams are supposed to be uneven like that. The instructions say to match up the notches and then stretch the fabric to fit in the crotch area. I think it's to give it a curvier shape. I've made them twice before and always cut them off like you but i just noticed the directions yesterday so i thought I'd share ❤ anna allen is a pattern magician

Rather than just cutting a single size, you can grade between sizes for shoulder/waist/hip. It's not much work and makes a big difference to the fit.

I really enjoyed this. Trying to get back into sewing! Thanks for sharing! As for the long form, I'm good at this length, but much longer and I don't even start watching the video. Reading through the comments, though, seems like there's a pretty decent mix, so I guess I'd say do what you prefer editing and filming! Never gonna please everyone. :)
