On the black magic naming, it’s an ingrained thing when dnd first came to Japan. Magic was labeled as black/white magic which they took and used in rpgs like final fantasy for black and white mages. Black is destructive/curse magic and white is healing/bless magic. Of course the whole black/white magic thing was ingrained antisemitism at the time when dnd was made especially the creator Gary gygax was bit racist/sexist (there is proof of this on forums he posted on years ago before his passing) so that mindset shaped dnd back then but now it’s updated. The most debated ingrained racist mindset in dungeons and dragons is the dragon colors. “Good” dragons are silver, bronze, gold and such while “evil” dragons are red, black, green and such. Basically dragons more valued colors are good while dragons that are destructive in colors are bad.
You in the West have already gone completely crazy with the search for witches. How the fuck does the color of a dragon reflect the racism of the system's creator?

Since as far I remember this only explain in stuff outside the story. There is no such thing as dark elfs. Elf refer to any elf that is assosiated with the use (direct or indirect) of black magic. Non elf heard elf say "Dark Elf" and mistook as whole other race. Which is not to say there non dark skin elf but there just elves. Normaly let the show explain but the anime is letting side stuff in the manga. Even in the manga it was more author note. So very unlikely it get brought up/let alone explain.
That ain't it. Elves are generally arrogant assholes but many of them have a soft spot for children of other humanoids, so they tend to be nice around the half-foot. This gave the half-foot an incorrect initial assumption that elves were all nice. Then they came into contact with the elves who don't have a soft spot for them and found out how nasty elves really were. So to compensate for the cognitive dissonance, the half-foot coined the term "dark elf" to describe elves who aren't nice to them. The other races then borrowed the term and started using it to describe elves who conduct what to them are crimes but might not be for elves. There is, for example, an elven tribe who eat other humanoids. The other races consider this vile cannibalism, but the elves in general don't. Later, the term would be applied to elves who dabble in forbidden (black) magic, which the elves actually do consider the gravest crime. So by this definition, there ARE dark elves. They just aren't a separate race like in D&D. This definition does happen to match Warhammer's definition of dark elves (and 40K's Drukhari/Dark Eldar), because in Warhammer dark elves are just elves who worship the Chaos Gods, so light and dark elves can switch sides freely. By the Dungeon Meshi definition, Marcille and the Mad Sorcerer are currently both dark elves although the latter is a lot more so. Dark-SKINNED elves also exist, and the darkest-skinned of all are known as obsidian elves and rule all the other elves. Obsidian skin is the elves' mark of royalty.
