I decided to do a haka alone everyday before work. At the first time I started chanting and doing some of the moves I felt moved. I felt empowered. Ready for war... I leave all of the negative feelings out with the haka. It's so weird that I'm the only Slovenian doing it. I cant explain how the Haka moves me.
The moment I heard this song, the moment I started doing the haka with such affection. I may be American/ Peruvian, but doing the haka motivates me a lot.
I love sharing, remembering, and preserving culture! I am so immensely thankful that people are willing and happy to share their culture with the world and to reintegrate it into the world. the most beautiful expression of humanity to share, to understand how much that means is the greatest epiphanies I’ve had in my life ever. I can just imagine this in a British colonisation movie where the British riflemen arrive to destroy the last of a warrior tribe after their leader refuses to surrender to the tyrant commonwealth. Charging at the British, hurling spears, shouting battle cries, the British are pushed back by the tribal warriors at a cost of many lives. In the end the tribe is destroyed but not without leaving a very bloody mark in history and standing up to the colonists invading their lands.
Go you one better. In the real world outside of your movie, the British had so many losses trying to budge the Maori tribes out of their dug-in ambush points that they finally did it the usual colonial way -- with strong drink, religious conversion and land trading. The Maori were vicious trappers and ambushers, and became good shots in quite short order. They made life hell for Tommy for many years.
@@CaliforniaReefRat Tommy was a brit soldier in WW1. It wasny alcohol or religion. It was the Maori askin for colonialism. If ya gonna trade go with the best. Anglo- Maori conflicts were post colonialism.
I got interested in Maori culture because of a soundboard called "The Crazy Kiwi" used for prank calls...but the guy who is on it is actually Aussie afaik. It seems one of the last primitive cultures left.
