First thank you so much for your useful channel and your method of teaching. Unni please answer my question, what does '의' means or used in this sentence 열한 명의 왕자
Hi, Suzan. Thank you for studying with my channel. As you might assume, 의 has a few different meanings. And in this particular usage of 의 that you're asking, the dictionary defines it like "A postpositional particle used to indicate that the referent of the preceding word limits the properties or amount of the referent of the following word or that two words are on an equal footing." 🤦♀️I don't really know what that means lol. So I'd like to explain it with some examples. In general, 의 is either one of the 2 below. ●의 (possessive) º 나의(내) 친구의 집 (my friend's house) º 그 남자의 신발 (the guy's shoes) º 우리의 사랑 (our love) º 나의 남자친구의 어머니의 고양이 (My boyfriend's mom's cat) ●의 (apposition) º 사랑의 집 (the house of love) º 평화의 상징 (the symbol of peace) º 하루의 대부분 (most of the day) º 커피의 향기 (the aroma of coffee) However, when it's number-involved, we can always say in both ways like '왕자 11명 and 11명의 왕자' which means exactly the same. ex) 2 girls -> 소녀 2명 = 2명의 소녀 10 books -> 책 10권 = 10권의 책 3 dogs -> 개 3마리 = 3마리의 개 They are just the same but if I have to say the difference, the former ones(소녀 2명, 책 10권, 개 3마리) are slightly more colloquial than the latter ones (2명의 소녀, 10권의 책, 3마리의 개) I hope this is helpful for you! Thanks! 👋
Hi, Farhah Muzahar! Yes, they both are subjects. I'd like to recommend a video explaining the difference the best. He explains wayyy better than me. Thank you!🤣 ruclips.net/video/fCxLNRLntc0/видео.html
Thank you for this , it's help me so much but I have a question. Why the title of the fairytale is 백조 왕자 when the story's about 11 princes , why is not "백조 왕자들"?!
Hi, emme noemie! Korean does not grammatically distinguish between singular and plural nouns. Thus, while 왕자들 means "princes", 왕자 can mean either "prince" or "princes", depending on context. Another example, while 사람들 means "people", 사람 can mean either "person" or "people", depending on context. However, if it's "A LOT OF people", The National Institute of the Korean Language recommends 많은 사람 instead of 많은 사람들 because you can know it's plural without '들' since "많은(MANY)" is already siad. So you don't necessarily have to put '들' after '사람'. ex) 많은 사과(O) 많은 사과들(△) 많은 책(O) 많은 책들(△) 많은 신발(O) 많은 신발들(△) I hope this is helpful for you. 🐶
Hi, emme noemie! 애 is a short form of 아이 and it has 3 meanings in the dictionary as stated below. 1. A person who is younger than oneself. 2. (impolite form) One's child 3. A baby that has yet to be born or has just been born. So I guess, in the sentence we're talking about, No.1 is used. 들 is a suffix used to mean plural, like more than 1. 을 is an object marker. So they are '애들을=아이들을' all together~~ I hope this is helpful for you. Feel free to ask more if you have further questions. They are always welcome. 감사합니다. 🐶🐶
@@practicingkorean8974 @Practicing Korean Hi👋🏾 thank you again for this contain, it's really helpful. I've learn 46 news words (verbs,adjectifs...) With this little story. Again I have a lot of questions. When there's two verbs in a sentence ,is the one that not conjugate act like an adjective or does it have a special particle ?! For example in this sentence "천사가 나타나서 말했어요" "나타나다" is also a verb but it wasn't conjugated. Hi, Mila Zamilatun Nisa! Let me try to explain. I think you already know what ㅡ죠 is. (A sentence-final ending used when the speaker talks about things in a friendly manner.) ㅡ죠 is the short form of ㅡ지요. And there is a tendency that you prefer not to shorten words when it comes to fairy tales. Please feel free to ask again if you have any further questions.😄😄
