Levey approached his musical career as you expect a boxer would. He showed up, kicked butt, then when it was time to move on, he hung his sticks up and moved on. What an amazing career.

I knew nothing about Stan Levey and his outstanding contributions to music, but that'll certainly be changing.

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm 62, and I've been playing for over 50 years and knew nothing about Stan Levey. What an amazing, multidimensional life. He's also a lefty, which makes him even more special to me

Actually he was right handed he just played the drums left handed because he said it felt better and more natural to him.

Listening and emulating Stan Levey, Mel Lewis, and Max Roach got me through jazz studies at UNC Music School

Loved this, I could listen to Stan talk all day. Telling stories of so many great musicians!! Cleary highly respected by his peers. To give up playing when that's how you pay the Bill's takes some brass ones. Great all around man

I really loved watching this and learning more about Stan and I really was moved by Lalo Schifrin's comments about him and I think that said the most amazing and wonderful thing that anybody could ever say to another musician and Mr. Shifrin is to me one of the greatest composers. I grew up listening to many of his soundtracks and TV show theme songs without even realizing they were all done by him and what's even more amazing is that Stan was his "go to" guy to play drums for all of those great catchy theme songs and movie soundtracks. The more I learn about stands career the more blown away I become. I'm wondering if he did the TV theme song to Mannix as well because it kind of sounds like his work or somebody imitating him lol...?

AWESOME, and there's another part to this that showcases the early days with Parker, Gillespie, Davis, and Webster. You gotta see that one too.

Stan Levey on drums. Written for the movie of the same title, in 1962 this song "The Town Without Pity" received a Golden Globe Award for Best Song and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song (losing to "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's) - ruclips.net/video/0HkpCjT4LiE/видео.html
