    luckley i was laid off from my brick and stick job right before the pandemic hit and have been working remotely every sense and i love it, the big benefit for me is not having to deal with all the office gossip and drama, who needs it, i work in peace and quite environment and i am way more productive. Some people just come to work to make their money and leave and would prefer not get involved with the drama

      I was laid off from an 8 to 5 job in 2009 during the great recession. I have since been working the same occupation as my own business, at home, in a "gig setting" since then. For me it's no more commute. I used to commute 30 miles or :45min to 1hr30m one way each day. Yes I know the commute is/was longer for others. I was oblivious to the drama, office politics, gossip, etc as I was there to work not socialize. So I don't know about the latter. But I am glad to not have to commute anymore.

    Hi, you might actually call me a "trailblazer" or a "maverick" bec I've been doing the "hybrid" work model since 2011. Back then, there were a lot of skeptics and critics. And right now, those same people are actually doing the same thing or working remotely exclusively! Regarding ACCOUNTABILITY, I'm not really a fan of apps like Time Doctor. Beyond tools like that, I believe that what's important is FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON for the job. Yes, you can find someone. There are people who flourish in hybrid or virtual offices bec that is exactly what they are looking for and it is a perfect fit to their day to day life. Another important thing to remember is that the kind of leadership that you apply and the type of culture you promote in your hybrid or virtual office are critical to your success. Also keep in mind that the kind of leadership and culture in a traditional on-site ofc IS NOT the same in a hybrid or virtual ofc. Lastly, you have to modify your standards when it comes to ACCOUNTABILITY becin a hybrid or virtual ofc, accountabiliy is paired with FLEXIBILITY. However, make sure that whatever your guidelines are, you make it very clear to the employee right from day one.

    Excellent video, I'm a Field engineer, Covid made all office workers remote. I would visit the office once and awhile pre-Covid and we would get a perspective of how busy we were. Post Covid office workers are getting more concerned about administrative tasks I have to do which is not revenue related. Not complaining here, just an observation.

    The number one disadvantage of remote work is NOT accountability. It's culture, creativity & collaboration.

    • @RunningRemote
      @RunningRemote  3 года назад

      Please tell me more. (I disagree but would love to hear why you think that's the most important thing).

      @@RunningRemote Look - rote work is getting easier and easier to automate and simplify. The future of human work is creative, and collaborative. For millions of years, humans have evolved to work together in close proximity to achieve great things. Remote work is just a shitty substitute for something extremely robust and reliable - face to face human collaboration. Companies that fail to maintain higher levels of creativity and collaboration fall behind. Though I think the market will correct for this, quickly.
      I also think that for a lot of people who don't find their work very rewarding, having an office and colleagues is the only good part about the job. When we move jobs like that to the home, it's like we're envslaving people for 8 hours a day in their isolation.

    Accessing the global labor market is not a trivial thing for companies. Many newly remote or hybrid companies I know of are still only hiring employees where they have nexus because they aren't set-up or want to pay taxes in all the different jurisdictions or try to contend with the different labor laws. HR departments have to have a solid game plan to take advantage of hiring anyone, anywhere.

    • @RunningRemote

      Completely agree Nicolas, I'm building a massive video on employers of record very soon to delve into that. My goal is to lay out all the legal issues for companies so they can figure it out for themselves.

    With gas prices going up (pushing over $5 to 7 per gal in some places) and people moving further out from the cities I would think that remote/hybrid working is going to be the "new" normal post pandemic.
