The best thing about this movies is 30 years later we're all still debating if it's a dream or reality. There's so many significant things that support each point, so you could ve right/wrong either way. Simply genius!
This really is a perfect movie...great action, cheesy one liners, exestential ideas, thought provoking twists, practical effects that are simply incredible! Such a fun ride, Im glad you decided to react to this.

@@jasonrd316 It's a memory implant. Not a dream or a shared matrix world. It's supposed to be like any other memory, which could not be marketed as such if you have added dreamlike memories of other people's perspectives. Also keep in mind that you can't insert an actual person into another's memories, meaning the guy giving him the pill and his loving wife would have to be figments. Why program a figment to be scared, nervous and sweat if the whole point is to convince him it's all fake? It is 100% real.

@@crescendyr8438 Agree to disagree. If you're stuck in a labotomized state you can see anything from any angle. That's whats happening there. If he got the implant, but they've lost control of him, just like the man said, he could be making it up as he goes. I've had dreams from another perspective, I'm sure you can do that in a coma or anything else. @@paul1979uk2000 The "Fade to White" heavily implies Quaid was lobotomized, since he had completely given up on returning to reality.
There are honestly so many "Chekov's Gun" moments before and when Quaid goes to Rekall, when he's talking to his work buddy and he mentions his friend nearly got lobotomized trying out a "Special Option", You never really get a good look at the brunette's face during the opening dream, so the Rekall representation of her just filled in the blanks, at Rekall he picks the Special Agent option, where everyone you thought you trusted becomes against you while you fight your way through them, but in the end he'll kill all the bad guys, get the girl, and save the planet.
Bonus point for the Technician's quips of "We're doing alien artifacts now" and "wow that's a first, blue skies on mars"

The ending (including fade to white) is consistent with implant interpretation. Some people think white means waking up, some with him being labotomised. I don't think it matters which, they're both implant interpretation endings I think.

There's a ton of Star Trek connections here:
The score is (once more masterfully) done by Jerry Goldsmith, who did a lot of Star Trek music (half the movies, themes for TNG and Voyager). I think Goldsmith was the greatest film composer that ever lived, and this is one of his best works.
The Johnny Cab was voiced by and modeled after Robert Picardo, the holo-doc from Star Trek Voyager.
The triple-breasted hooker was played by Lycia Naff, who played Sonya Gomez on TNG (2 episodes) and Lower Decks.
Cohaagen is played by Ronny Coy, who played a temporary Captain of the Enterprise in a TNG two-parter.
The uniformed head security guy on Mars (red beret) is played by Marc Alaimo, who was Gul Dukat in DS9 (and, thanks to his long neck, was the inspiration for the look of the Cardassians in general).

For an experience more similar to movies like 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' and 'Hero' I'd suggest 'House of Flying Daggers' and 'Curse of the Golden Flower' - preferably subbed. And for something similar to 'Ip Man' I'd suggest Jet Li's 'Fearless'.
Other Jet Li movies you may enjoy are "Fist of Legend" (often considered his best film and has a decent dub), "Twin Warriors", "Once Upon a Time in China", "The Legend" (a.k.a. "The Legend of Fong Sai-Yuk"), "The Legend II" (a.k.a. "The Legend of Fong Sai-Yuk 2"), "Legend of the Red Dragon", and "The Legend of the Swordsman" - then there's "The Enforcer" and "Black Mask" which has a more modern setting. For these, the dubs may be fine - they're definitely nostalgic.

I'd read the book and watched this years later and read a synopsis by the film makers. Remember the direction this is intended to highlight the advantages but more the dangers of perfected virtual reality. When you look at the film again everything comes into question. Did you really watch it and they live this, or did he imagine it only to be lobotomized at the end? And was it the productions intention that the audience experienced it this way?
"I don't wanna spoil it for you, but you rest assured by the time the trip is over, you get the girl, kill the bad guys and save the entire planet."
    As written, yes?

Hi Kacee!😊 So, you have now seen two films in the unofficial Verhoeven trilogy. Three films directed by Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. All three films are futuristic violent films. You recently saw "Starship Troopers" which is the last film in the trilogy. The only film left is the first film "Robocop" (1987). Robocop is considered a great film by many! You'll see a familiar face there, too. Nice solo reactions to one of Verhoeven's fun futuristic violent films, Kacee!!!! 🎬👏👏👏👏

First summer blockbuster of the 1990s.
Stacked with great filmmakers behind it.
The director of Robocop (1987), writers of Alien (1979) and based on the short story by the author of Blade Runner & Minority Report.
I can't tell you how much excitement there was in this extravaganza.
    Arnold at his best.
    Supreme action and suspense.
But not just bang, boom and pow.
There is a story to be had with identity and all the things that come with it.
The 2012 remake by Len Wisemen (Underworld) was more closer to the original material (not set on Mars) and it wasn't liked as much.
But other than that, hope enjoyed the ride.

Here's a question. If Doug's wife was really there in person and not just an implant trying to talk him down with the Dr. from Recall ...... then wouldnt she have a bruised face from being punched out by Doug back in their apartment. Bruises take a long time to heal, especially when a giant bodybuilder guy knocks you out by punching you in the face.

as far as the "vintage aesthetic" it's only vintage until comes back around again.. a 100 years from now, 80s could be the current trend ... and i don't mean sardonically or facetiously... like for real... look at hipsters now, they mean it... they're not blacksmiths or art makers of 80 years ago but they sure as hell are rocking the look

The air pressure on Mars at the surface is about the same as here on Earth.. at 100,000 feet.!!! So yeah, it's hard to breath and the sun's radiation comes right down to the ground. Of course even if it was enough to breath the Martian atmosphere is almost all Carbon Dioxide. Not much oxygen.

@@gordonhaire9206 I live north of Dallas, raised in El Paso. I would never want to live anywhere else.
Everyone that I meet we do a minimum of the head nod, sometime, "Hi" or "How you doin?". I was in a Walgreens last week and I was in the checkout lane and the lady in front of me didn't have a basket and kept dropping stuff. I only had stuff in the back on child seat. I asked her if should would like to use the front of my basket. She did and thanked me when she got to the counter. It's just what we do.
      Again, be safe. Oh, I'm a 39yo living in a 75yo container.
