Quite a fluke catching that. Working somethning that was on a skate took some steady handling. I remember the day an Ilford driver forgot the 317 he was pulling was on a skate (on its way to Ilford Shops) and came round Channelsea Curve too fast and the back coach snaped its fixed bar coupling and fell right over on its side! That was an afternoon out with the Old Oak breakdown crane!
The station its self has changed very little, but what a radical change in traffic!.... barely a coal train to be seen nowadays (which figures with no mines left, and very few coal power stations left) and hardly any mail trains either. And of course the last 12 months has seen the majority of HST and MK4 sets withdrawn, as well as the 321s and pacers. Have to say I won't miss the pacers, but the HST and Mk4s will be missed by many.
Brilliant video, so much variety. Today (2019) you can stand for many hours and never see a freight train, which tells us that our industries can`t be doing any good.
There was a by-pass line put in to stop the freights crossing the ECML on the level which probably helps explain why not much freight is seen nowadays. But i'm sure there is a general downturn, especially with coal of course. I have a lot of MGR shots at places various, they are also probably very quiet now!
Wow, you got footage of a loco on a "sled of shame"! And a Gronk too, no wonder the 31 driver was taking it steady, must have been well unstable. I guess it was going into the works for attention.
Thank you, and a Happy Christmas to you. Perhaps i should have put up a vid full of engineering/ballast trains in honour of all the freight drivers working ballast trains this Christmas! That was a different way of spending Christmas in times past!
The mandatory headlight came in for Jan 1 1993... so there were still a few locos running about without them, but most had been fitted with headlights as they went through longer exams (C or D) or as they passed through works.
Great stuff!
The Derby based 08842 on a wheelskate was particularly interesting!

Looking pretty knackered

I should imagine just about everything on here is now history......
What an amazing trip back in time! How things have changed! Such a brilliant video, thank you so much for sharing. :-)
Soon even more will be gone-HST's and the class 91's. I bet you can't wait for the IEP's? lol...

We had a blast between 2011 and 2015.
Thanks for all your videos
Something different to watch rather than Christmas telly!

It was a good catch on film. I assumed it was for works attention, nowdays it would just be scrapped!
Great video as always Soi ! Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to you !

Cant have been long after this when high intensity headlights were required on all mainline locos.
The mandatory headlight came in for Jan 1 1993... so there were still a few locos running about without them, but most had been fitted with headlights as they went through longer exams (C or D) or as they passed through works.
Cliffjumper24 Headlights for all traction units were a recommendation after the Severn Tunnel Junction pway accident in February 1985.
Thanks Doncaster as I remember it dirty trains and coal and mail trains.
No Frenchgate!
