I was unfamiliar with Alex O'Loughlin when I sat down to see the first episode of H50 in September, 2010. Two minutes into the show, I sensed that this guy had ' IT ' . I quickly became a devotee of the new 5-0, and now eight plus years later -- I KNOW he's got it. He IS McGarrett ... I greatly look forward to the start of Season 9 !
Great actor, great director. He does have the IT factor. :D He just happens to be on a show where others have IT too, which means everyone is bringing their A game to the show, and they all know they are equally invested in the result. Nobody slacks off! I love that. I wasn't sure how Alex would be as a director, but was about 99% positive he would blow us out of the water with being prepared, with great vision and insights. He had all of that and more, AND (thank God) it was a Danny episode plus featured everyone else too! Now everyone knows how good Alex is, and not just as an actor. I think Season 8 was one of the strongest seasons, and season 9 is going to be fantastic. I freely admit I'm slightly more of a Scott fan than an Alex fan, but the best parts are that they are such a great *team* onscreen. I cannot say I'm not an Alex fan, because I have been since the beginning. I can't name a cast member right now that I don't just adore, definitely including Chi, Beulah, Meaghan, Jorge, Eddie the dog, (I'm embarrassed, who plays Duke? I just love him!)...I think the new characters have really cemented the ensemble. Yup. Season 9 is gonna be another great one.

Hawaii five O is the only crime drama show wherein the characters are not total dbags to each other. I hope it runs for 20 seasons. Cheers to the writers.
Its funny if you think about the modern Steve Mcgarrett character having to always drive Danny's Camaro and always take charge. But, Alex seems like a cool guy that love filmmaking process.
Of course of storyboarding, once scene to the next, telling a story or position of a,shot, & camera angle, type of shot long, close up, two person, three person shot the, 3 cameras at the studio, camrra 1 c/u, camera 2 ls, camera 3 far away, or w/s like the cameta is telling a story from scene to scene, like transitions in between when being in the editing bay a scene, or camcorder when filmed in different locations etc..The transitions set the pace of each scene like slow, serious, jump cut etc...
Hey, I was just wondering does anyone know why there is hardly any behind the scenes stuff of Scott Caan. Just the other day I watched the new Gag Reel of season 8 and it is just the same there. Yes sure he appears here and there with a funny face or something but it seems like its less and less. Don't get me wrong I don't mean the official "Danny" time on screen just the behind the scenes stuff. And I know this particular video is about Alex O'Loughlin directing but still kind of sad :/ Well maybe its just me, i don't know. What'd you guys think?
I hear that Scott is very serious about his work and tends to keep a bit more to himself than the other actors, although he's friends with all his co-stars and literally everyone seems to love him. I guess he's just not the type to horse around much in front of the camera, but I could be wrong. Whatever the reason, I too wish there was more BTS footage and also more interviews with Scotty out there, but no such luck 😭

As far as I know the commentaries for the DVD were shot after Scott left for LA again. So he wasn't there to be interviewed.
