    The 88 on 760 had a different dash, front panels with the longer alloy Bonnet that covers the wipers, different firewall to a 740 or pre 88 760, the irs in the rear was 760 only too. The door cards with the carpet was all 760s. Trimmed headlining and pillars was standard too. They were built in a factory with over person responsible for it. They reduced absenteeism.

    I test drove a new black 1989 760 Turbo at a Volvo dealership in Monterey California. Beautiful car it was priced around $35,000 lots of money back then in the US I didn't want a hefty car payment because the interest rates were high back then and financing it through Volvo car finance was a challenge. I ended up purchasing a used 1985 760 Turbo for $15,000 out the door and had it financed through Bank of the West.

    I had mine for over six years, never missed a beat, heart broken when I sold it, can't justify getting another one, great to drive and really comfortable.

    Very nice clean example. The 760 has a much better A/C than the older Volvo models.

    Nice car. Owning a 1990 765 Turbo with US spec trim level from the factory as my father bought it 34 years and 137K miles ago in Skandinavia (Finland) makes your memories go back to that time when Volvos were top expensive and with poor spec trim level in Finland as a 760 cost you about 40K - 50K pounds with a beggars trim level. You have the same TP-7045 cassette player installed as these were optional and top expensive extras back in the days but as standard with a different SR-7145 radio unit and TP-7145 cassette player in US models having similar front panel to SR-7045 but with CD-changer controls + power aerial. I thought that most UK spec cars were with interior wood trim but now I realize it was an optional extra just like it was in the US at that time. But back in the day having a US model imported to poverty spec -level "Soviet-Finland" made the whole system look feeble and showed how much some government rips off it´s own people as something you bought for a 15 to 18K pounds Sterling would be taxed to 50K or 60K Sterling. These are nice cars and when serviced and kept up decently these offer you a nice ride and take you back to that time when Volvo was a premium brand and cars were well built in Sweden and not mostly made of plastic and Chinesium shitboxes rotting out and falling apart made in the Netherlands or China.

    I Had one off them back in the day. Manual as well.
    Great in a straight line. Worked better with Michelin tyres. That car let me down a path of 740s and 850 saloon and an estate.

    My parents had a 740 Turbo for a few years and always kept a spare fuel relay in the glovebox... Other than that it was totally trouble free. Great car.

    Out of my classic car collection: my 1986 Volvo 760 GLE: auto V6. Is one of my favourites) Ive owned mine for almost 30 years now and kept the oil changed regularly and no major issues. I did actually own several 760's before, but they also have all been prv V6 engined model's. I've hardly ever seen any 760 turbo model's : even when they were relatively new : i do prefer the facelift model featured in your video; thanks for great video.

    I think the intercooler badging is a kid to both their trucks which also boasted about being intercooler in a time when it's was a big deal and as a boast about safety and performance as it orotectes the engine while allowing more boost

    Cat equipped B230FT full fat were around ~170hp, a non-cat would be 182hp. . There were afew B230ET 's around in early 740 TI's which made ~190hp due to the 531 head and more aggressive cam. These would have KE jetronic. There were two flavours of LPT in the 940's - a 2.0 which made around 135hp and the 2.3 making 155hp.
    At 101,000 miles on the featured car, it is not even run-in for a red block, and by the way it drives is in desperate need of a stage 0 tune. Appears way down on boost and performance- just from age, and at £4.5k is an utter bargain since it's a manual +od (M47).

    Crikey o'blimey. There I was thinking that the Volvo 200 series was the last car to be fitted with a 4-speed and overdrive in about 1982-83 or so, and here's this 760 from *1990*! I'd thought they'd all be 5-speed by that time. Now I look on the All-Knowing Oracle Beginning With W and it says there were some 940s with a 4-speed and overdrive. When did they finally stop? Does anyone know?
    And yes, you should buy it - to say you've got a car from the 1990s with an overdrive.

    • @televisionandcheese
      @televisionandcheese 3 месяца назад

      If I remember correctly, they actually bought the overdrive back for the 2.3 turbo as the 5 speed manual wasn't strong enough to cope with the torque of the turbo engine, but this older M46 4 speed + electric OD was strong enough.
      It's a shame the overdrive is only allowed to be used in 4th, I have a similar electric overdrive in my Triumph and it's a blast to use it like a semi automatic around country roads in 3rd/3rd OD, and more importantly, being able to use overdrive in more than one gear means you technically have a minimum overdrive, and a M A X I M U M O V E R D R I V E!

    • @papplet1
      @papplet1 3 месяца назад

      I believe 1994 was the last year for the overdrive transmission.
      My 88 745 have done 450000 miles on the same driveline with one overhaul of the overdrive when the seals went bad
