Written in the early 1950s yet not published until 1985, William S. Burroughs’s Queer has come to be considered a canonical work in the career of the Beat Generation author and a cornerstone of transgressive gay literature. In his wildly ambitious adaptation, Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, NYFF55) expertly evokes the book’s post-World War II time period and cinematically translates Burroughs’s iconoclasm with panache. In a transformative role, Daniel Craig immerses himself into Burroughs’s alter ego William Lee, a habitual heroin user luxuriating in freedom and desiccation among a disconnected group of gay American expatriates in Mexico City in the late 1940s. When enigmatic, preppy ex-military kid Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) catches Lee’s eye, he swoons into a headlong love affair, commencing an odyssey that will take them all the way to the Ecuadorian jungle in pursuit of the ultimate high. Buoyed by go-for-broke performances from Craig and Starkey, and rollicking, unexpected supporting turns from Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman, Queer is a dazzling showcase for many in Guadagnino’s stable of collaborators, including Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, and music composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It’s a film that finds Guadagnino in his most formidable, gutsiest mode yet, a universal love story featuring expressionistic flights of fancy, gratifying moments of psychedelic surrealism, and surprising tenderness. An A24 release.
Queer opens in theaters on November 27, courtesy of A24.

Drew was really good in this movie i have come to like him and love him😊
드류 스타키 31살인데 21살같음
너무 아름답게 생겼다
Drew, as far as I'm concerned made this move of the best movies to watch this year. Your amazing acting talent is about to skyrocket in the movie industry!!
Unlike a lot of authors who are very territorial about their books being adapted, Bill Burroughs always had a lifelong love for cinema, and was relatively responsive to the process of adaptation. I'm sure he would have given Queer a fair viewing.
Drew is so goddamn good in this movie, we are witnessing a new star being born!
This film was unlike any I’ve ever seen. I admit I did not quite understand a lot of its imagery and themes on first watch, but I am very anxious to view it again based solely on its ambition and execution. It really is one of the most intriguing films I’ve seen in quite a while
why is no one talking about drew starkey being casted in this? THANK YOU LUCA. It's like Timothee chalamet. I just really think drew is a great actor. he reminds me of shia labeouf in his acting style, at times. So so good
They do. It starts at 10:53.
How did he remind you of Shia labeouf’s acfing style? I’m curious
@@555yo the tone of his voice the way he delivers lines at times and his mannerisms it just reminds of that spark similar to shia labeouf when he acted when he was younger. of course i dont mean entirely each person is unique thyre their own person and i definitely like drew starkey more
Daniel Craig almost shot a movie at my place called dream home. I was disappointed when I didn’t choose my place.
Saw it two times, phenomenal work
luca one of the few true auteurs keeping cinema alive
I deeply DEEPLY loved this film. Can't wait to watch again soon
is it really really good, like... better than CMBYN or challengers?
It’s so so good. I think it’s his best film.
Drew Starkey, save me
I’m surprised your interested in William Burroughs. His books are very intense in fact this movie with Daniel Craig, I finally cast in bizarre, but this won’t be like the book they’re always an adaptation of William Burroughs books always adaptation of his books , have you ever heard of William Pearl‘s voice? It’s very unusual. I’m surprised you’re interested in him.
nobody talking about the forever turned into a frog potion seller guy writing this? i love him
Luca has such an incredible mind
My overall interpretation was a coming to terms with one self, love for youth, new beginnings and having a mind opened to evolution of love and self-acceptance. His character involved lifes struggle of acceptance in involving daily dose of drugs/drinking and the life love acceptance we all yearn for.
Daniel Craig was truly transformed in this film portraying a very vulnerable character and embracing lifes journey. The theatrical moments really take you to deeper level where you reflect on the spirals of a man, and the everyday moments that mean something but are overlooked. Ending was the life of a man that will always love those moments in time with someone who he shared genuine love with, whether with his own youth or with Drew who played a shell character of defiant nature.
i love Guadagnino.. i would listen to him for hours
omg Jonathan Anderson is there tooo
A masterpiece, go to the cinema. Brilliant and very direct in so many ways. Raising many questions bringing much into the life, and William Borough is quite a character to cover. Stellar performance by both actors. ❤❤❤❤
Great Film and good to hear of Ballard's Miracles of Life. Interesting.
Incredible movie 🎉
Very interesting film. Great performances! Leslie Manville and Daniel Craig deserve Oscar nominations at least.
Humility is the absence of ego.
Fantastic film with a powerful ending. Daniel is an absolute gentleman!
Daniel Craig is simply cool😊
Having watched and enjoyed some of Luca’s films and interviews, I’m seriously intrigued by the notion that he could be interested in making a film of James Baldwin’s GIOVANNI’S ROOM. As a teen-ager I fantasized about a film, that now, only Luca would be capable of doing it justice. I even imagined the best looking and talented actors of the era; Alain Delon as Giovanni and Warren Beatty as David. My question is, if Luca be able to fulfill this teenage fantasy of mine. I trust he will cast the perfect actors in their perfect roles. Hmmmmm?
I really wanna know what Daniel Craig was looking at the first like seven minutes. Loved this film
He’s listening intently. You can see his facial reactions to what he’s hearing as he’s hearing it ❤
Drew Starkey so beautiful
In love with this film already, can’t wait to see it and track down Luca’s other works too!
Blown away by how Daniel Craig has grown in depth and presence WOW! ❤❤❤
Omg the potion seller is back

Drew 🌀
I can't wait this movie.....

potion seller man
Daniel Craig: god actor! I'm very much looking forward to seeing the film, but I also think Daniel Craig is starting to take himself a little bit too seriously these days, let's behave with a bit of humility? Doesn't even want to reference Bond? It made him MANY millions of dollars, was positively received and he CHOSE to do it? So why is his ego so big he doesn't want to reference it?
What an odd comment! This event is not a career retrospective of Daniel Craig's roughly 70 films but a (frustratingly brief) discussion of QUEER with no fewer than five of the key artists involved in the movie, so it's particularly imperative that everyone stay on topic. How are his Bond films in the least relevant? I've watched several other interviews with Craig about QUEER -- usually with only one or two other people -- and he always strikes me as thoughtful, focused and articulate... and not in the least egotistical. And he has never struck me as reluctant to mention his stint as Bond when asked or when appropriate.
The master of trashing classics.
if you’re homophobic stand up
