This reminds me of when O&A did the "David & Bobo Show" and Opie would play a drop of Opie shouting "DAVID!...AND BOBO!" every 15-30 seconds and laugh to himself in the background.
Holy shit, this is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. Thank you guys for bringing it to my attention without me having to go and actually listen to Opie's podcast myself. Truly, you are doing the Lord's work.
It's almost like a joke, like something out of a sitcom about an incompetent show producer where the laugh track is supposed to go crazy every time an inappropriate drop is used.
It was bound to happen. Not an Opie hater at all. But on the O@A shows, he was sometimes BRUTAL with the soundboard. Constantly jamming up good riffs and bits that he probably felt left out of by spamming the soundboard. Short ones like the car crash fine, but too many were loud and long. The Homer laugh was the absolute worst - one where he just laughs and then another where he says "did you see that jerk?". Often he would play it multiple times in a row and completely overpower everyone else. I didn't care that he wasn't that funny and the fact that he couldn't take a joke was at least interesting psychologically. The soundboard spamming was my least favorite thing he did and has ruined certain audio I've listened to.
I'm glad Opie has remembered what made O&A great and unique. It wasn't all the regular comic guests, Ant's lightning quick wit and impressions, Jimmy's characters and level of honesty, willingness to screw with guests and discuss any topic, all the crazy side characters like Bobo, intern David and Lady Di. No, it was the use of soundboards. Might have to go to the phones to really recapture the glory days.
The joy that the soundboard brought to Blind Mike makes me think it's almost by design from Opie, like Opie is doing a Kaufman-esque living the gimmick of the radio equivalent to David Brent
All these boomers think it's hilarious to start the show with 5 minutes of random soundboard or movie line sound effects, its awful. O&A used to do it back in the day and it wasn't even funny then.

I tried to watch Nick Dipaulos show once and the start was 7 minutes of gangster movie quotes from his soundboard that he thought was entertainment. It’s pretty bad with these boomers, Count Cumia is just as bad as these guys too.

In terms of talent, the Anthony, Jimmy and comedic guests are thr Best ray dee oh show ever; the Wack Pack with Artie Lange are 2nd. The Dopester and Nosetradamus (as Ant accurately named Howie Hoo Hoo Hoo, I invented that, Stern....were the weak links on their own shows 🎤
@@MightyHorse01 Doesn't make it any less factual, Opie's heart isn't failing due to the woke v prouds twitter war. Opie never pled guilty to biting a young girl and went to "woman batterers anon". The guy is scum, at least opie is just some random boomer doing dumb stuff.
